In the discussion about COVID-19, quarantine, and online distance learning.
As an individual who is affected by this pandemic, I've researched a lot about this virus. First discovered back in December 2019, the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is caused by a new virus called severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2. (SARS-CoV-2) To this day, people do not know the origin of this virus. It was rumored to have begun from bats or a lab however, none is confirmed at the moment.
It started from Wuhan, China before continously infecting all the other countries. When it first broke out in the Philippines, it affected a lot immediately, gathering a total of 2,084 cases in March. In an attempt to decrease these cases, the government decided to put everyone in an enhanced community quarantine. As of now, there is a total of 182,000+ cases in the Philippines.
Despite not being able to see everyone, I have learned a lot of things during quarantine. I got closer with my family and my passion. I took some free courses and used the time given to me to learn things that I'm actually interested in learning which is the production of music, modern art, dancing, etc.
I got more knowledgeable in the topic of culture appropriation, protests, and the government. I refrain myself from doing things that may offend others and scold others that do so.
I also learned the importance of the people around me, church, and self-care. I used this time to build myself and I had a lot of epiphanies. I won't lie, I actually got more unhealthy recently. Nevertheless, I'm happy with my current pace and although I may come across some difficulties, I know that I am wiser and more mature in handling them.
This may be a quite controversial issue however when it comes to my stand in online distance learning, I agree with a lot of people with the topic of doing the academic freeze.
According to a report by Business Minors, The Philippines has the slowest average broadband speed among the 10 Asean nations. A lot of people are struggling during this pandemic because it was unexpected. Many have lost their loved ones, money, and even lifestyle.
It is unfair for others to be able to provide for themselves right now when they are even struggling on getting food to eat. Getting WiFi, computers, earphones and many more just to gain education may be quite a lot for them.
Not just for students but teachers as well, I give all of the teachers respect for doing their best in giving out lessons despite some technological difficulties. In the end though, the decision is not ours to make.
Despite this lengthy post, I hope everyone is having a good time and showing their appreciation towards everything around them. Show yourself and what you can do to help during this pandemic.
