Layout, line art, and the finished cover for the XCOM 2: Factions graphic novel that came out in November from Insight Editions.
Process stuff - Col-erase pencils on marker paper. I like using multiple colors so I can see what's what, like differentiating the body from the clothes.
And finally, the whole TROY poster put together. The line art is finished! Only took 5 years of paying work getting in the way and lots of procrastination in top of the paying work to finally get to this stage. Ha! Now we’ll see how many more years it will take to finish painting it.
This piece is 27x41 inches (typical movie poster size) at 450dpi. It’s a pretty big file, heh heh. For the line art, each element/character is done in two layers - a layer for the line work and a layer underneath that for grey tones. I usually have a base layer for color “flats” - flat areas of color I can select via the magic wand at any time during the painting process - then a layer of finished colors for each element.
I could do all the finished on one layer, but I’m so used to separating things for the commercial work that I do (where you have to be prepared to edit any and everything the client can think of), I figure I’ll just keep doing it the way I’m used to. Most of the colors will be on layers underneath the line art, but some will be on top. The line art itself will get colorized in some areas as well. Basically it gets kind of crazy from here on. 😊
Run through the jungle, baby! Or just, like, you know, rot. Whichever.

Series of panel mashups I did for the XCOM 2: Factions graphic novel I penciled and inked for Firaxis and Insight Editions. Released this past November and this in with the War of the Chosen expansion pack.
