Quello era il suo odore. Ben distinto dal profumo che usava, che forse, non avrei riconosciuto. Ma l’odore della sua pelle, quello l’avrei riconosciuto ovunque. Ero una pergamena, e il suo odore era inchiostro.

مختار الحكم ومحاسن الكلم للمبشر بن فاتك
'Mukhtār al-ḥikam wa-maḥāsin al-kalim' (The Choicest true Sayings and the most beautiful Speeches) by Al-Mubashshir ibn Fatik (born in Damascus, but lived mainly in Egypt during the 11th century Fatimid Caliphate).
The manuscript includes historical biographies and aphorisms of twenty-one "sages", mainly Greeks (Homer, Hippocrates, Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, Pythagoras, Galen, Hermes, Alexander the Great, et alii). The biographies are largely legendary and most attributions highly dubious. The date of composition given by the author is 1048–1049 CE.
