Important Questions
I've been drawing for over many years, but it's only after CSP that I've managed to git gud
my question is
what do you think of my art style?
---
What do I personally want with my art style?
Inspired by Kaneko, Araki, Leyendecker, 90s capcom house art style, retro Nomura, late 80s - 90s OVA anime (the obscure weird one shot types for a hyperspecific audience in the otaku fandom), fashion photography and the likes, I wanted to have more of a chill vibe.
Like sure, the ones popular in the industry are the AAA splash art / Gacha anime / very painterly stuff. But I preferred a more metallic vintage look to it.
People these days says Kaneko's art style are creepy, dollish and wooden. But I love the depiction of his anatomy. It's angular and satisfying for some reason.
I also preferred more ambient light as opposed to something realistic/impressionism tbh. Something like an 3d object from a old 3DCG render, or 80s anime with its relaxing color limitation as opposed to bright filters and blooms.
Doesn't mean I don't have complex to those popular industry art style tho, at the same time I feel disappointed with limiting my own technique :( (personally professional artists have extremely strong foundation (basics, anatomy knowledge, shapes, render, etc), art style and aesthetics are secondary expressions)
if anything, if there's a vibe I want to convey to my audience through my art. It's like a refreshing breeze of an urban daytime. Kind of lonely, but not dark. It's crisp air.
also unpopular opinion but I liked it when 3d renders aren't hyperrealistic. Like you can tell that the characters are 3d video game models with their uncanny glossy skins and hair. I really liked the ambient vibe and nah. It's def not nostalgia cuz when these games are coming out, I was just a 2000s zoomer toddler with pea brain to even appreciate these stuff :(
Plus I find these semi realistic anime/old western movie hybrid characters to be hot as hell. Can't feel the same with those so-called modern day 3d babes though :(
Could say it influenced my render styles to some degree
Idk tho, how about what you feel about my artwork?
