At Provender Nursery, Kent, U.K., Malus × robusta 'Red Sentinel' (crab apple) was available as a trained pleached plant. It was covered in clusters of cherry-like, deep red fruits which persist well into winter and are enjoyed by the birds after a frost. In the spring this medium-sized deciduous tree is covered in single white flowers.
