Okay you know what's really weird in the PMXIV fic? Actually makes my head feel like "what"
Is the fact of "who is technically by law related to who."
So, let's start with Chesed, who is from a rich family in the crossover and because of that the others are informally adopted in and seen as part of the family.
The "informal" part isn't the complicating part.
Thing is, Netzach gets formally adopted in. He now shares the same family name as Chesed in Sharlayan. Everyone knows that they are not blood related. It's plausible that most people do also realise that Chesed doesn't see or treat him like a true adoptive brother. But it is legal.
So. We have Chesed, and we have Netzach, who are legally brothers, and then we have Chesed (eventually) marrying both [Z]ayin and Hokma, tying them both to the Sharle family.
So now Chesed is also legally connected to Hokma's (blood) family, as well as Ayin (who is a loner, having come from the Forest).
Except then there's Yesod, who was unofficially kinda-sorta taken in by the family when they left for Old Sharlayan, and Netzach and Yesod are a Thing. I haven't thought of when or how they'd deal with making it legal, but... that sure is a thing. That everyone knows about. They don't hide it (couldn't; they act like an old married couple, too).
And so it's canon to the crossover that Chesed's brother is Netzach. That Ayin's brothers-in-law are Netzach and Yesod.
And THEN there's the realisation that at some point, some poor unfortunate soul is going to overhear them talking about things such as how Netzach kissed Ayin that one time. Or how Chesed and Netzach were actually lovers at one point - a long time ago, sure, but it was a thing. And like. To your average Eorzean or native of Sharlayan... that's his brother. And yet. He sure wasn't his brother yet when that happened.
Hod has a normal Hyur family somewhere in Gridania.
Malkuth has a normal Sunseeker Miqo'te family (which is to say, her father the Nunh, her mother, and her many brothers and sisters).
Tiphereth's family is an unknown. She's an orphan (again). There is no Enoch.
Yesod's family... is honestly better out of the picture! Unfortunately for Yesod, they may or may not stay that way. They're Garleans who were trying to gain social standing in the Empire.
Binah's family... probably respected but centrist Garleans. I get the feeling she's still in touch with them.
Gebura's family? Hm, ah. Honestly, I need to do Bozja or at least watch it, because that's where she's at when she's not helping the guys out over here. I get the feeling that she lost most of her blood relatives to the Empire, or to war. Thinking on it now, I like the idea of her having a younger sibling.
