"Breathe in peace, breathe out tension; this is the essence of meditation."
What Happens When You Practice Affirmations Consistently?
Have you ever wondered why some people exude confidence, maintain a positive mindset, and achieve their goals effortlessly? The secret often lies in the power of affirmations. Affirmations are positive statements that help you reprogram your subconscious mind, develop self-confidence, and enhance your mental strength. By repeating affirmations daily, you cultivate a strong belief in yourself and…
Warning: This is my attempt to positive self-talk to me! This is a more personal "Me" post because this is how I try to motivate myself when things get hard.
"You're so strong. Even if you don't think so."
"I'm not strong."
"Yes, yes, you are."
"No-"
"Yes. You're so strong."
"How...? How am I strong?"
"You got up in the morning."
"That's not strong-"
"Yes, it is. You got up in the morning. You picked yourself up. You went out today."
"To the local grocery store..."
"So? You still went out. You still got sun, you still walked all that way down. You got up even though this week has been so taxing for you. You got up despite everything."
"That doesn't mean anything..."
"Yes, it does. You're still going despite everything. You survived another day. And, most importantly, you're still here. That's the strongest part of it all. You're still here. You're still walking, you're still breathing, you're still with your loved ones. Even if you think that's not strong, it is. You're so strong. I admire that about you."
"Why would you admire that?"
"Because sometimes that's the hardest part of the day. Just getting up, walking, just getting dressed... Sometimes, I feel like I don't have the strength to do that."
"But you do, don't you?"
"Yes, but-"
"Then you're strong too..."
"Hah... I guess that's something we have in common don't we?"
"Will it get better?"
"I don't know... But I hope so...
...Don't you?"
"Yeah,
I hope so too."
The woman sighs as she looks away as she hugs herself quietly. She glances at the sky a bit as she hugs herself a bit more.
"Yeah, I hope so too..."

Whump Trope: Self-Talk
Specifically, positive (or at least adaptive) self talk to get through a really bad situation.
Examples could be:
"It's just pain" to keep calm when they are hurt/being hurt (more adaptive than positive in this case)
"Okay. Take a deep breath, Self. You can do this."
Etc
I also like seeing it used in recovery arcs when a character is very stressed or fighting a fear/conditioning/panic
I may add to this later. Others are welcome to add to it as well!
I know it's tempting to listen to those thoughts that tell you that you "should" do this or you "should" do that, but it's healthier to work towards thinking about what you "can" do or what you "will" do. It's not just semantics. Words matter. Choose yours wisely.
Sometimes making progress on a writing project means writing two paragraphs editing the scene-outline so that it makes more sense, editing the story-outline to accomodate the changes, and mapping out the trajectory/necessary events between *current location* and *end of the chapter*.
Just because I didn’t add a lot to my page count, doesn’t mean I didn’t do work. It doesn’t mean the work didn’t matter.
I am a writer. I am writing. I can strive to be more productive without dismissing the work and progress I actually managed to do. This is real. This COUNTS. I am making progress.
I am a writer. I am writing a story. I got something done today. This means that I am Doing Good At My Job.
