mash doesn't consider his feelings for you to be love or not until his friends ask him out of pure curiosity. he knows that he feels something for you, but that's as far as he considers. you make him feel more than most people do, even when you're not doing anything special. if he were to choose spending time with you over making cream puffs, he'd prefer to make cream puffs with you. it's not that fun making them by himself anymore, mash figured.
besides, it's not like mash really knows what love is. there's no solid description of it, but according to his friends, dot especially, it's a strong feeling that makes you want to spend more time with a certain someone or just be near them at any time of the day.
and to mash, he figures he does love you when you poke your head into your dorm room and his heart does a silly jump, but his eyes light up without him knowing. poor mash, not realizing that he's so wrapped around your pinkie that anyone could practically see a dog tail wagging behind him every time he sees you.
finn wants to implode at the mere mention of love. not because he doesn't love you, no. but because he's not sure if he's ready to say it. he doesn't know if he should admit it because he fears that if he does, he'll scare you off. but finn knows he loves you. more than he'd like to admit. even a mere glimpse of you in the hallways or classrooms sends his heart soaring, but finn knows that he loves you because he feels so safe with you.
you're a home he wished he had in his childhood, back when he thought a home was a building. but finn learned that a home is a person's heart, and he's made himself at home in your heart just as much you've found one in his. and he hopes you'll never leave it. there's nowhere else safer for him than in your arms with your hands in his.
finn knows that things will be okay because he loves you, even if he hasn't come around to saying just yet.
there are very few things lance hesitates about. in fact, one might think there's nothing that would make him stumble more than the knowledge that his sister might get a boyfriend one day. but those kinds of people don't know him. they all assume he only has his sister in his mind and nothing else, but that's not true at all.
no, lance hesitates the most when he considers for a brief moment if he truly loves you more than anna. of course, the argument there would be: it's a different kind of love; there's no comparison! but that's not what lance is questions. he doesn't want to be a waste of your time. he doesn't want to look back and realize you were never his first priority when you should've. he doesn't know if he could handle the heartbroken and disappointed look you give him when you realize you weren't his first priority, the first person he thinks of when he wakes up to the last person he thinks of when he falls asleep.
lance knows you should be. and therefore, he questions his love for you. and when he realizes that you're no mere second or third priority in his life, lance feels comforted. only when he is self-assured can he face you as your lover. because you deserved his full devotion.
of course he does; dot has no doubt in his mind that you are the only thing on his mind for a good portion of the day. he daydreams and dreams about you, spends any spare waking moment wondering what you're doing, if you've ate, if you're sleeping well, if you're having a good day, and so on. to dot, you're on a whole different level of vip, even more than his friends and sister. so yes, dot doesn't hesitate to say bold declarations of love because what else could these feelings be?
dot is the picture perfection description of a simp, down bad, head over heels, and rose-tinted glasses all at once. there's really no question behind it when he's grinning like an idiot at a picture of you and him on your latest date, rubbing it into his friends faces and declaring you as nothing short of his heart, soul, and world. and dot's words are only simple and bold because he sees no need to use fancy, illustrating words for the love that burns for you night and day.
abyss loves you like you're the only reason he gets up in the morning. he doesn't even have to open his eyes to think about you; the darkness beneath his eyelids makes him crave your blinding smile and warm embrace immediately. oh, how he longs for the future days where you can wake up in his arms, the mornings and nights when you're the first and last thing he sees. abyss knows he loves you... he craves you in more than mere carnal ways.
abyss has no need of the sun when he has you; abyss has no need of a large manor that he grew up in the basement of when he has you. he needs nothing else but you, and there's nothing that deters him from knowing that he loves you. and he knows you know he loves you because you're so gentle with him, his heart, his body, his soul. there's no amount of words he could say to describe how you make him feel, but all he knows is that you must be a reward, a blessing from the heavens because he had some great and marvelous thing i his past life.
whenever abyss looks at you, he knows. all the trouble and suffering in his childhood was all the more worth it when he found you in his life. found you in the sunlight, humming and swaying with the sunny breeze, sitting there like you had stepped out of a painting, feeling like you were made of silk. how soft and delicate his love is, but stronger than anything else in the universe.
is there truly a word abel could use to describe how he feels around you? was there really a phrase of sorts, something poetic but simple that he could use to explain how painful yet delightful his love for you is? he wonders, truly.
abel is no genius with his feelings, but he knows that you are what he's been looking for. you are the other half of his soul, the puzzle piece that fits the you-shaped gap in his heart; you're simply so perfect for him to love that abel feels like it is a sin to love you. a sin to love you and desire you the way only he could, to crave you and seek you out when he misses the sight and feel of you, perhaps even the taste of your lips on his.
abel is no genius with his feelings, yet he knows that this love between you and him are for the two of you alone. no one else gets to lay a hand on it, lest this love be a sin to anyone else, a maze of torturous wants and needs that could only be fulfilled by you. but they can't have you. because abel has you. therefore, this love is only for you and you alone.
there's very little wirth feels like he needs to prove. he knows he's strong, he knows he's smart and has wealth that his other peers are jealous of. and he knows he loves you.
but does he? does he love you the way you deserve? are you content being loved by him? are you pleased with the love you've found in hi heart, all for you to take and take with no expectations of giving anything in return? perhaps a glance or two his way and maybe a smile will do nicely, wirth thinks. he'll do just about anything and everything that you wish him to do, just as he had for his father who gave him no recognition and no praise for his hard work. you, on the other hand, gave when you weren't required to. you recognized, acknowledged, and praised him beyond words. you touched his heart when no one else wanted to, and now he's so hopelessly yet willingly yours.
wirth knows he will never be happier with anyone else. they could never provide him with what you give him, even if you didn't need to. all your sweet words and touches, warm eyes and hands, down to your very breath seems to sing praises to him, and wirth thrives.
oh please, please ask rayne if he loves you. please ask when he knew he loved you. he begs. he begs and pleads and waits for the day you walk about to him with the cutely curious glint in your eyes, adorably asking him when he knew he loved you because he has an answer. an answer that's been holed up in his pocket like a housekey waiting to be brought out at the end of a tiring day of work.
rayne knew he loved you the moment you came to him in tears, apologizing over and over again until he was more worried you were going to pass out from the lack of air in your lungs than whatever you did wrong. he found it so silly yet lovable that you were so sorry that you spilled your morning coffee on his rabbit handkerchief, knowing he cherished it. but there was nothing more he cherished than you. rayne loves you more than all the money in the world, all the wealth and comfort the world and its people could lay at his feet. why would he need all that when he has you right beside him? don't be silly, he has no thoughts of leaving you, so you shouldn't be either. you were his for the taking to day you sobbed into his chest over spilled coffee on his handkerchief. you were his to love and cherish and keep when he tilted your head up and had the first taste of your lips against his.
there's no love like rayne's, and rayne knows he got you hook, line, and sinker.
ah yes, the one man who acts like you don't mean anything more to him than a housemate and a coworker. orter is insufferably emotionally constipated, so please bless him if he can't show his love for you properly. orter has considered telepathically sharing his thoughts with you whenever he thinks of you and fawns over you in his head, but he doesn't because he knows neither of you will get anything done. you're better off having blind faith that this guy loves you because while you and him think he's being sly and sneaky, his coworkers and especially his brother can see otherwise.
how do you now know that he covers the table with his head when you go under to grab something you dropped? how do you not realize that he has memorized your coffee order top to bottom? how do you not see how he knows how you like your eggs, steak, or any food order that you've made at any restaurant? how do you not see orter madl going above and beyond for you?
the answer is simple: he's never given you a reason to expect anything less. orter, from acquaintance to marriage, never gave you a reason to expect anything less from you because he knew when he met you that you were going to be something else to him. cringey, i know, and he knows too, but there's really no other way to explain it. but because that's the case, you don't see his efforts because orter doesn't want you to. he doesn't want to be praised for something he sees elementary, basic, and put promptly, the lowest standard.
Your eyes widen as he plops himself on the plush surface of the couch— legs spread and neck bared to your hungry gaze. It's not like he's doing this for no reason. He knows exactly what you want— what you need. You are hungry. You've been holding back. It has been ages since your last meal and it's starting to get to your head.
Unamused eyes watch as you falter. Your pupils narrow into slits as your eyes glow an ominous red. "You sure?" you question, clearly using the remainder of your humanity to question his bold proposition. But he's not too keen on leaning into this part of the routine— the part when you deny yourself your own satisfaction. His eyes never shift away from you. The way your focus never strays from the column of his neck tells him all he needs to know.
With a subtle smirk of his own, he pops open a button of his shirt. His free hand takes hold of yours. The motion is languid— guiding you to rest in his lap. One hand rests on your waist, the other cups the back of your head. Gleaming eyes watch his every movement.
Excersing the last of your restraint, you gently tilt his head to bare his neck further. "I'll ask again, are you sure?" your question is a hushed whisper. Your lips brush against his quickening pulse. You earn no more than a hushed hum of agreement and push into his neck.
That's all the confirmation you need as you sink your awaiting fangs into the skin of his neck. Relief and pleasure rush in all at once. A guttural groan emits itself from his throat. His hold on your head tightens, fingers locking into the strands of your hair. He presses you deeper, coaxing you take however much you may need. You, on the other hand, are barely holding onto your sanity. Your hand clutches at the side of his neck, fingers trembling and pinning him in place as you sate your hunger.
The rush of blood, your soft, yet desperate suckles, the increasing hammering of his heart and his strained breaths fill the quiet space of the room. He lets you take your fill. You drown in him— his touch, his scent, his taste. There's a quiet mantra that rings in your head— him, him, him. It fuels your hunger. Your hold on him tightens further. And he lets you have it.
Until he can't.
Gently, as to not startle you and create an extra wound to heal, he murmurs your name, drawing you from your daze. Carefully, you extract yourself from his jugular. Your heavy breaths fan across his skin. There's a crimson tint to your lips now. It's faint, but he notices. He also notices that your eyes have softened to its usual hue— no longer that ominous, predatory scarlet.
He stifles a groan when you press a tender kiss to the puncture wound. A hushed apology is whispered into his skin, as if it would make the pain all go away. And for him, it does. The intimacy of the moment has him momentarily forgetting all about the mark you'd left on his skin. If anything, his concerns lay elsewhere. The hand that had laid dormant in your hair moves to your temple, flicking at you.
"Next time, don't go starving yourself. It causes more problems."

his voice soften when he talks to you - sae (bllk), rayne (mashle), levi (snk), kinich, al haitham (genshin)
m.list | rules
Sae, even though he hates it, has to spend a scandalous amount of time with a ton of people for his career. He's always asked everywhere, he's probably the definition of busy if you ask his manager, but also the most idgaf person he's ever seen. That until you're in the room, and you need something – anything, that he can figure out for you or help you with. His manager never gets used to the way his voice softens, calling out your name like it's coated with honey, asking you if you need anything or if you're okay. It's subtle, not a lot would notice, but if you got the chance to talk with Sae more than once, you'll notice it. It's caring, gentle, sometimes in the rush to make sure you're fine, but always with gentle eyes following your silhouette or shadow around.
Rayne can appear a lot less caring than he actually is, even regarding his own brother if you don't know them enough. He's serious, seeking the best for himself, not there to make friends. And yet those who get the chance to meet him at the same time as you do are surprised to hear how he talks to you. It's informal, there's some kind of fondness in his voice that nobody else gets to feel for themselves. If you ask them, they'll probably tell you don't even seem to notice when everybody else does by the way you never seem frustrated. But how could you when that's your norm with him ? His voice is so sweet when he tells you to be careful with your power, pushing a stand of hair for your face. Or even when he assures you he'll make time to help you study. To you, he's the sweetest person who ever stepped on earth.
Levi rarely shows any sign of affection ever, to anyone, even his closest friends. You just have to know he appreciates you to not get offended, or really notice how his voice changes – and he doesn't appreciate a lot of people. So maybe you never noticed how his voice is less harsh with you, how his words yearn a bit after he finishes his sentences, how his eyes look at you for a second too long ; but Hange never misses it. The way you don't seem to pay it any mind, even the way it doesn't seem to affect him even if he'll always call your name a little sweeter than any other. Hange never even imagined mentioning it, but they'll for sure keep a close eye on it.
Kinich can be a little straightforward but that doesn't mean he's mean or arsh – at least that's never what he has in mind, that's what Mualani concluded. Even with all of that, she couldn't help but giggles at the way his voice softens when he talks to you. He never raises his voice but also puts a lot more life into it, lingering with his words and his eyes instinctively searching for your approval or at least an answer. He never screams when he calls your name, even when he's worried or even scared for your safety. His lips move upward into a small smile every time he gets to talk to you and she definitely hopes you noticed how the man fell for you.
It's not only in the way Al Haitham talks to you that makes people notices the proximity, but mostly the time he can take off for you. He can be really busy, or it can be outside his work hours and yet he's always there to answer or help you, cutting what he's doing to do so with the softest voice his co-worker ever heard from him. He won't roll his eyes, raise his voice or sigh during the conversation, never. He'll always make sure that you leave with everything you need in hands and mind, so he'll take some extra time, explaining you softly, with gentle gestures, careful as if he was around a bird.

I feel like Orter is a very subtle guy. He's never cared about romance before, and you cannot tell that he has his eyes set on you.
Don't expect much from him. Perhaps a few unexpected words of praise, or a rare compliment about your looks, and that's it.
He doesn't let his cold expression go, not even in front of you. Thus, genuinely nobody has any idea that he likes you. He also performs just as well as usual, so the time he spends with you goes mostly unnoticed.
That being said, I think his love language is quality time. If you're up for it, he's more than willing to spend time with you - go on walks, study together, whatever you want, really.
─ The bustle of the town hadn't died down, even though it was starting to get darker. People went on about their business, but you weren't paying attention to that. Your attention instead was on the man walking next to you, with the same stern expression as always.
Orter, the Desert Cane, had recently been starting to grow closer to you. You didn't know what brought this on, but his presence in your life was appreciated.
"So.." you began, hoping to start a conversation. "Where exactly are we going?"
He was quiet, and for a second you thought he wasn't even gonna respond. "Where would you like to go?" He asked suddenly.
You had to think about that, caught a little off-guard by the question. Seeing the manner he walked, carrying himself with so much purpose, you thought he knew exactly where the two of you were going.
"Umm.. well, I've been hoping to get a new wand," you said, a bit sheepish. "You think we could stop by the shop?"
"Of course." He turned immediately in the direction where the shop was located. You smiled and gave a thankful nod, then followed after him.
Now, Kaldo is interesting. He's definitely a confident man, and he doesn't doubt that he can earn your love sooner or later.
He doesn't waste time at all. He immediately starts getting to know you, memorizing your favorite color, scent, food.. it goes on.
He's a gentleman with you. Or, well, he tries to be. Sure, he's a dangerous man when he needs to be, but with you, his less ruthless side comes out. He makes a point to sound softer when talking to you, make contact in gentle ways, that kind of thing.
He takes you out to his favorite restaurants frequently. He insists to be the one to pay every time. Whenever anyone asks him if it's a date, he just smiles and shrugs.
─ The sushi restaurant had been oddly quiet since the two of you entered. At first, you were confused by it.. but then, remembering the man with you was a Divine Visionary, it made a bit more sense.
To your surprise, Kaldo was a great listener. Every time you told a story, he listened with that signature smile of his, nodding and occasionally chiming in with a comment or two.
That was the case right now. You sat in front of him, telling him about an annoying encounter from the day before as he dripped some honey onto his sashimi. He certainly had a sweet tooth, that much you knew about him.
You'd already finished your share of the food by the time the story ended, yet your hunger remained as it was. You didn't want to tell him, though. It would only bother him, surely.
It didn't take long for him to notice. However much you tried to talk over your growling stomach, in a matter of minutes, he took notice.
"Are you still hungry?" He asked, his voice gentle. You reluctantly nodded. "Why didn't you say so? I'll order more for you."
"Are you sure?"
He gave you a look as if you'd just asked something entirely stupid. "Of course. I've got the money."
You couldn't help but smile. He was so generous with you.
"Thank you, Kaldo."
Rayne was caught totally off-guard by his love for you. It's like you came out of nowhere and he was attracted to you, like gravity pulled him in.. and, in a sense, that was kinda what happened.
He finds out you're in the same house as him - even better, you're good friends with Finn. So, what's the logical thing to do?
Ask him about you instead of talking directly to you.
...Yeah, he's not great at this, but he's trying.
As confident as he tries to seem, he can barely make eye contact with you, he's a mess when he's around you.. because, why do you make him feel this way?
He resorts to give you gifts in secret. He always asks his brother about what your favorite things are, what you currently need, or just what you like in general. He doesn't care how much money he spends, as long as you're happy. And, for now, he's content with watching from a distance. Atleast, until he's worked up the courage to ask you out.
─ White snow crunched under him as Rayne walked trough campus. He didn't have any work to complete - a rare occurance, admittedly - so he was lost in what he should be doing.
The sound of laughter caught his attention. Not just anyone's laughter, but yours.
He spotted you sitting under a tree, surrounded by you and Finn's friends. He stopped in his tracks to observe you. The way your lips curved upward every time Dot told a joke. Your amused chuckle as he threw snowballs at Lance and Mash. How you rolled your eyes at yet another one of Lance's rambles about his sister.
He was an observant man. He found all your little quirks and subtle habits fascinating.
The thing that caught his attention most, though, was the scarf wrapped around your neck.
The scarf he sewed for you.
He quickly looked away and put a hand on his cheek as soon as he noticed that they heated up. He would never admit it to anyone, of course, but seeing you with the gifts he secretly delivered you was one of the things he loved most.
He sighed. Oh, how deeply he'd fallen.
Okay, let's be honest. Mash has no experience with romance (aside from Lemon's pining, but that doesn't really count), he grew up in the middle of the forest with his dad. He has no idea how he's supposed to ask out a girl, or how to even show you that he likes you.
But because of his very obvious liking toward you, his friends notice quickly. And, luckily for him, Dot was more than willing to help, claiming he was "great with ladies".
His plans never work. Mash always freezes up before he could even say a single word to you, and ends up stuttering for a good five minutes before you gently help him out.
Instead, he opts to bring you gifts. He doesn't need to speak for that, after all. Though, he's a little out of touch and just assumes the average person likes the same things as him. But if he catches you talking about a specific thing you want, he'll try to get it for you.
He's not good at picking up hints at all. Unless you straight up tell him that you like him too, he will assume you only think of him as a friend at most.
─ You were lounging in your room, not having anything in particular to do. Bored out of your mind, you laid sprawled out on your bed and stared at the ceiling in complete silence.
In your daze, you hadn't noticed the door was left open, or that someone had come inside minutes ago.
"...Hey," Mash finally found the courage to speak up, making you notice his presence.
"Ah, Mash!" Your face lit up at the sight. You were just about to ask him what he was doing here, but before you could speak, a basket was shoved into your hands.
You looked back at the boy in confusion, but he didn't say anything. Instead, he looked at you with the same blank expression. The only thing which revealed how he was feeling was the slight blush on his cheeks, and the fact that he avoided your gaze at all cost.
You looked inside the basket, and you finally recognized what was inside. Cream puffs. Perhaps an unhealthy amount of them.
"Oh, Mash.. thank you, this is so kind of you-"
By the time you looked up again, he was gone.
You smiled to yourself and placed the basket down next to your bed. From the smell, you could tell they were freshly baked.
Fortunately for Mash, you couldn't see the way he panicked outside your dorm, or the obvious anxiety in his gaze after he left. Did you like it? What if you didn't?
The day after, he found a note sent to him. Two simple words written in your handwriting.
"Thank you."
Being the top student in the academy doesn't grant you a lot of time to think about getting a girlfriend. That's the excuse he told himself, until he met you.
I feel like he'd be into the more traditional kind of romance and courting. He buys you the occasional flower and helps you with tasks you can't do.
If you agree, he will definitely tutor you in whatever subject you're struggling in. He's surprisingly patient with you, too. If anyone asked him, he'd deny that his lingering touches were on purpose.
Dot always insults him over his way of courting - he thinks he should be more straightforward and bold, but Lance just ignores him.
─ "Did I do it right?"
You watched with slight anxiety as Lance scanned over your Magic Zoology homework. His eyes gave nothing away and he sat in such silence that you really couldn't tell what he was thinking.
"You did," he finally replied as he handed the paper back to you. "You got everything right. You've improved a lot."
You shot a sheepish smile at him. "Thank you.. it's all thanks to you, really. If you hadn't helped me out so much, I wouldn't have understood anything."
"Nonsense," he said. "You did just fine without me. I simply helped you realize your talent."
"I wouldn't say it's a talent.." you muttered, your gaze drifting away from him. Lance shook his head, but he clearly saw no point in arguing with you.
The two of you stared at each other for a moment longer. The silence, surprisingly, wasn't awkward at all. It felt.. oddly comforting.
"Well, I don't have anything else I need help with, so.." you started, eyeing the exit. "I can go now, if you want-"
"No." he cut you off. "There's no need. Please, stay for as long as you want."
You blinked at him in surprise, but quickly regained your composure and nodded with a big smile on your face.
You spent the rest of the afternoon together. It likely would have been more, if Lance wasn't called away.. oh well. Maybe next time.
— synopsis. reading rayne ames is impossible. that's why you don't get why he offers to take you out on a date after you've been stood up again.
— pairing. rayne ames x fem!reader
— genres. modern au, you and rayne are roommates, fluff, you’re so oblivious it hurts, rayne's most likely ooc towards the end but we do it for plot,
— warnings. one kys thrown in at the end but it’s not in a serious manner
— word count. 3.2k
— notes. in honor of triple liner rayne being animated. i have quite literally been waiting to see it animated for years. also hi.
you can never tell what rayne ames is thinking. he wears the same cold, uninterested glare on his face at all times of the day. he never speaks unless spoken to, never lets you know when he leaves the apartment, never does anything to show that he actually has emotions.
you're asked on the daily how you survive rooming with him, and in all honesty, it's really not that bad. he does his half of the chores, and he doesn't leave his shit all over the apartment. really, the guy's only problem is his lack of emotion. it drives you up the wall.
finn says not to take it to personally during the one day he visited his brother. apparently, he's like that with everyone, but he's still a good guy. it just takes time.
you would like to believe that, but rayne makes that extremely difficult to believe when he looks like he wants to kill every person who so happens to exist in his direction.
so naturally, seeing him so angered after finding out that you've been stood up is surprising. it's an even bigger shock when he offers to take you out on a date instead.
you don't know what compels you to agree. even if you hadn't accepted his offer, something tells you that rayne would've found a way to get you to leave with him so there's no use in trying to deny him in this matter.
that's why you allow him to drive all the way to marchétte street, where a night market is being held in full swing. the road has all sorts of stalls lined up one after the other, ranging from foods to clothes. but because the marchétte night market is ridiculously popular, the place is packed to the brim with people.
rayne offers his hand once he notices that you're daunted by the crowds. you stare at him with surprise. when you don't make a move to accept this action, rayne huffs before grabbing your hand. he interlocks his fingers with yours and drags you into marchétte street's traffic.
the first thing you note is that rayne's hands are surprisingly warm and soft. for someone so incapable of talking, his touch is strangely reassuring.
he drags you to a vendor selling takoyaki. and even as he orders, rayne doesn’t let go of your hand.
“what do you want?” he says into your ear so that he doesn’t have to yell over all the noise. the feeling of his breath fanning over your skin sends shivers down your spin. it's maddening.
“oh. uh-” your eyes quickly scan over the menu, and you blurt out the first item that you read. out of habit you reach for your wallet, but rayne is quick to shut you down.
“absolutely not.” he grumbles, letting your hand drop to your side so he can pull out his cash. rayne hands the amount to the girl at the register, and she hands back his change that he drops into the tip jar.
“thanks.” you say quietly, still so flustered about the entire situation.
rayne only studies you before humming in acknowledgement. “come on.” he guides his hand to your upper back, moving you out the way so you can wait on the side for your orders.
it’s during this time you really look at rayne as if that would provide you with the answers you need to understand him. you try to wrap your head around it. you draft up every possible explanation, but none of them seem to make sense.
unless… it couldn’t be… does rayne like you? you shake your head, dismissing the thought as soon as it crosses your mind. no, that’s absurd, the furthest thing from logical. this is rayne ames we’re talking about. in the five months that you’ve been living together, you two have never had a solid conversation. how could he ever like someone he’s barely talked to?
you're about to confront rayne about his intentions until your number order is called, and all the courage you built up crumbles away as rayne leaves you to go pick up your takoyaki.
still, whatever his reasons for doing this may be, this is a rare opportunity to come by, and that means that maybe rayne doesn't have to continue being a stranger. maybe you can get under those layers and find that good guy finn said was there.
"i never knew marchétte had a night market." you say, breaking the silence as the two of you walk side by side through the market.
"i didn't either." rayne admits, poking his fork into one of the octopus balls, and shoving the whole thing into his mouth.
"what?" your face scrunches in disbelief. "then how'd you find out?"
"i asked finn as we were going down to the garage." your date shares nonchalantly.
you turn to look at rayne with the intent of questioning him further, but the sight of his cheeks bulging with food makes you burst out in a fit of giggles.
"what?" rayne asks, narrowing his eyes at you. you bite your lip to contain your laughter. your gaze falls on a mixture of crumbs and sauce that sits on the corner of his mouth, only causing you to smile wider.
"you got a little something there." you gesture at his lips. rayne fumbles for a moment, swiping his fingers around various sections of his mouth, somehow only cleaning half of the mess up.
you shake your head, still grinning up at him. he tenses when your thumb grazes the edges of his lips. you can feel his eyes staring deep into you, and you have to ignore the way it makes your stomach flip.
"all done." you whisper, wiping the remainders on the napkin in your hand.
rayne doesn't say anything regarding what occurred, only urging you to follow him further down marchétte street.
you swear that you see the tips of his ears go red, and something about that makes you all fuzzy inside.
as the night progresses, you and rayne abide your time by visiting stalls. well, it's more like you choose which ones interest you the most, and rayne follows behind. you comment on certain items that look nice; sometimes, you ask for your roommate's opinions to decide on whether something will be worth your money or not. to your surprise, rayne's advice is solid, and you end up listening to him.
at some point, you convinced him to buy a pair of absurdly looking mugs for the apartment. he fought you hard on it, saying that a mug shaped like a fish is extremely inconvenient, but in the end, you won with insistent begging.
when the two of you both got bored of the market, you decide to take rayne to one of your favorite spots in the city.
"the park? really?" rayne gives you a dead stare.
"hey, don't judge." you pout. "i love this place."
"why? no offense, but i don't think parks are all that special."
"i feel like i can take a step back here and just a catch a break from everything," you answer honestly. "sometimes, i sit down and watch people as they live their lives, and something about that is strangely comforting. it makes me want to keep going."
rayne doesn't follow up on your words, but you can tell that he's really considering them, and that brings a smile onto your face.
"plus, i feel like it's a good place for when you want to talk to someone." you grab onto your roommate's wrist. "come on let's go to the swings."
you practically drag rayne to the playground, which is completely deserted, but that's to be expected when it's already 10p.m. no parent would be dumb enough to bring their kid out this late.
you force rayne onto the the swing next to you, and all he does is sit there, unwilling to indulge himself in such a simple joy. annoyed with him, you hop off your own set, coming behind him.
"what are you doing?" rayne whips his head around as your hands plant themselves firmly on his back.
"oh live a little." you huff, mustering up enough strength to push him. the swing rocks forwards and comes back. even as rayne complains and threatens you, you continue to push him, watching as he goes higher and higher. he may be masking it, but you can tell that he's enjoying it.
you finally give up when your arms grow sore and a layer of sweat coats your face. slumping back into the swing beside rayne, you breathe heavily. "man, that was a workout."
"i told you to stop." your date reminds you, shooting you a look.
"you can be honest, rayne. i know you liked it."
"i did not."
"yeah, yeah, keep telling yourself that." you wave him off, laughing.
for a minute, neither of you say anything. you're the one who said that the park is a place where you can talk openly with someone, yet there's not a single topic that you can think to bring up.
luckily, rayne swoops in to save it. "can i ask you something?" your half-blonde roommate asks, something more serious laced in his voice. it makes you swallow a lump in your throat. an anxious feeling creeps into your body.
"of course you can."
"why did you bother giving that guy a chance?"
it's easy to know exactly who he's referring to. you shrug. "he's nice and has good energy."
"but he had stood you up two times in the past though. clearly he isn't as nice as you make him out to be. you seriously can't be that dumb to have fallen for it three times."
that statement in itself should get you mad (even though he would be right), but there's something peculiar in what he said that had you ignoring the jab altogether. "how'd you know he stood me up twice before? i never told you that."
at that, rayne freezes, eyes blowing wide open. it's so obvious that he's trying to find an excuse right now, but you push further.
"who told you that, rayne?" you lean closer, watching as his ears turn beet red. you're not even angry with him. it's mostly curiosity making you push him. not to mention that seeing him in a flustered state is entertaining and quite cute.
"max did." your roommate finally admits albeit quietly.
you pull your head back. "max? as in max land? how the hell does he know?"
"your dates happened to be at the restaurant he works at."
"why would he bother telling you that though?" you wonder. "up until tonight, i don't think it concerned you."
"it did though." the half-blonde mumbles, thinking you wouldn't hear, but you do anyway.
"what?" you press.
"forget it." rayne shakes his head, growing irritated.
"no. fuck that.." you seethe, annoyed at his unwillingness to be honest with you. rayne bites his tongue to hold back. you see it. "don't act like this. just tell me, or i swear to god i'll text max right now-"
"it's because i knew that i could treat you better." the words rush out of rayne's mouth as he snaps his head toward you. the fire in his eyes die as he locks his gaze onto you. the harsh emotion written across his features softens. you can feel your own exasperation slipping away like that of a retreating ocean tide. he grimaces in regret, knowing that he didn't mean to let that slip out, but he did anyway. it's out in the open, and now you knew.
surely, you're hearing things wrong. perhaps you're misunderstanding what he just said. how could that be misinterpreted though? it's such a painfully straightforward statement, yet it still doesn't make any sense.
rayne sighs. it's like he can already hear your thoughts and your confusion. the least he can do is clear the air and dump everything onto you while he can. "i didn't expect to feel like this," he begins to explain. "when i moved in, i just assumed you'd be another person i wouldn't pay attention to. i'm sure you know how i am. i don't bother getting to know people, but a lot of people feel the need to force themselves into my life, and shit like that pisses me off. but you didn't do that. you introduced yourself, explained the ground rules of the apartment, and then left me alone."
"so... you like the fact that i leave you alone?" you tilt your head.
"shut up. let me finish."
"okay."
"but yeah, that's part of it. you keep your distance, but you still try to show that you care. you don't do anything groundbreaking. it's just that the small things you do for me got to me. it may sound dumb to you, but it meant a lot to me."
suddenly, you're hit like a train because you know exactly what rayne means. you recall all the times you ensured that there was dinner for him, the times you moved his laundry into the dryer when he forgot to do it himself, and the times you restocked his favorite snacks when they ran out. you hadn't realized that you did any of that. it just came naturally, no hidden meaning behind it.
"oh." you breathe out, blinking.
rayne nods, continuing. you're honestly floored over the fact that he still has more to say. "you don't notice it. at least, i don't think you do, but at some point, i tried doing the same for you. i started paying more attention to you and what you liked and how you liked things done. i did it mostly to pay back your kindness, but over time i continued just 'cause i liked seeing your smile."
you have to process that for a minute, piecing together how certain events lined up until it finally clicks into place. "s-so the island vase-"
"i replace the flowers because you like them fresh."
"the key holder?"
"you always forgot to bring your keys until i installed it."
"when you put on movies-"
"i check your letterboxd and hope that you'll sit and watch them with me."
"when i put on movies-"
"i sit with you because i want to be near you."
your jaw falls open. never in a million years could you have expected this. you thought that rayne could care less about your existence, but the reality was that that was far from the truth. cold, aloof rayne was always doing things for you. all this time, you've been so oblivious.
still, there's more to the story so you stay quiet, letting him get his feelings off of his chest. "to be honest, i was never going to say anything. max tried convincing me to confess on multiple occasions, but i was dead set on letting it pass. i didn't think you liked me in the same way anyway.
"but then you came home today and you told me about your date and i just got so... angry," rayne clenches his fist around the chains of the swing. the whole situation infuriates him every time he thinks about it. "it just wasn't fair. you spent so much time into looking your best just for that asshole to go and waste your effort. you're so beautiful, so kind and understanding, and i fucking hate the fact that he's been taking advantage of that.
"i really wasn't thinking clear when i proposed this date to you, but god after tonight, i'd do it all over again. i wanted you to know what it's like to be with someone who does care about you. i wanted to see you smile. i wanted to hear stories. i want you so badly it's all i can think about sometimes.
"i know this is a lot, and i'm freaking you out right now. i'm sorry but you-"
"rayne." you interrupt with a big smile on your face. he was unaware to the fact that you had got up.
"for fucks sake, can you let me finish? this is already weird enough for me to talk about as is." he rolls his eyes, narrowing his gaze at you, blush splashed across his cheeks. still, without any resistance, you pull him up from his swing by his wrists.
"then don't." you whisper as you pull him in.
and the moment you crash your lips onto rayne's, the world stops. he instantly melts into you, the palms of his hands finding the soft skin on your cheeks. your hands tangle themselves into his hair. his lips are incredibly soft. a faint taste of matcha and sugar syrup dances on his tongue from the boba he drank earlier. a noise of approval vibrates down his throat, and you can't help but smile against his lips.
rayne wraps an arm around your waist, pulling you impossibly closer as he deepens the kiss. you get what he was talking about earlier. this kiss is all it takes to prove it to you. you feel his affection and desire all at once. every single bone in your body is so aware of how much rayne ames cares about you.
when you finally pull away for air, it's like a smile is permanently tugged onto your lips. rayne trains his eyes onto you, engraining every detail of this moment into his head.
a comfortable silence falls as each of you take your time to catch your breaths. your stare finds its way up, admiring the night sky. there are barely any stars out tonight. no, that part isn't remotely true, not fully anyway, because light pollution drowns out stars and their lights. the reality is that there are billions of stars hanging high out of reach; they just go unseen.
rayne is kinda like that you realize. finn was right. his brother is a good guy. there's a hidden light within him behind all those aloof layers of his. you just have to squint and maybe put on some prescription glasses is order to see it. it's a shame it took you five months to to really acknowledge it. but now that you've finally found a glimpse of it, you'll continue to clear past the fog. you want to know every part of rayne and see his light just as he did with you. you want him to be able to shine at his full brightness with no fear. you'll take rayne ames for all that he is.
"come on," you coo, a lovestruck look in your eyes as you slip your hand into rayne's. "let's go home."
bonus:
rayne: finn, give me a date spot quick
finn: are you actually going on a date?
rayne: stop asking questions
finn: there's a night market on marchétte street.
finn: are you seriously going on a date though?
finn: hello?
finn: rayne.
finn: stop leaving me on read.
finn: is it (y/n)?
finn: it is her, huh?
finn: asshole.
delisaster: hey sorry
delisaster: can we reschedule for next saturday?
y/n: kys
y/n: lol sorry that was my bf
delisaster: bruh what?
delisaster: did you have a bf this whole time?

delisaster: did you fucking block me?

You were trying on fake rabbit ears to see how they looked on you, just to see how they would look on you. But then Rayne appeared in the room after long hours of work.
He enters the room only to observe you with rabbit ears, and to make it worse, or better, you were only wearing a dress shirt. You had just taken a shower and wanted to try on the strip.
"Rayne?" The boy just stares at you silently, with his neutral face.
"You okay?" Your words are cut off as you're thrown onto the bed. Let's just say that night you were a great bunny for Rayne. The hours of work helped Rayne a lot to vent his frustration on you, his pretty bunny who obeys him so well, who accepts him so well, so well that the next day you felt soreness; your legs were aching. You promised yourself not to wear the rabbit ears again, putting them away in the drawer.
But it doesn't stay tucked away for long, does it? Who are you to deny a request from Rayne? He only wants to see his precious obedient bunny, after all.
-After Rayne & You graduated, you two got married, but Rayne is still in school as an assistant teacher, so the group, especially Lemon, is happy to find out you're pregnant and dub herself the planner for baby showers-
Before Rayne became a Divine Visionary, you were always helping him out
Be it in or out of class, with magic related stuff or anything, you were always there to help him
You are in Orca dorm and spend most of your time researching and creating new spells and potions
Your personal magic allows you to create miniature pocket dimensions where you store things
You mostly fight using Armor and weapons you’ve stored in your pocket dimensions
You had sat by Rayne in class and during your time together you learned about his desire to become a Divine Visionary
You told him that you would support him and help him whenever he needs it since you believed that he could change things for the better
Eventually it came time for the Divine Visionary exam
During the Finals, you and the other finalists were trapped in a giant mansion and had to partake in a battle royal
Inside the mansion were the other finalists but also traps and monsters. The last person standing would win
You had been giving your all throughout the challenge but you were running out of magic. Eventually you came across a monster who had beaten the other finalists
Despite your best efforts, you tried to hold the monster off but you had run out of magic energy. You were certain that you were going to be hurt but then you saw giant swords come out of nowhere and destroy the monster
You looked up to see Rayne standing behind you
You smiled up at him weakly and chuckled
“What’s so funny? I can’t have my future assistant being taken out by a monster”
Lance Crown:
Honestly, this boy probably would have left you on your own if it weren’t for the fact that his little sister loves you
You’ve known him and his sister since you guys were really young
You and your mother worked for the Crown family and you worked as Anna’s caretaker when she was little
She came to see you as a big sister and you grew to love her as your own
You acted as both a maid and bodyguard for Anna despite you being the same age as Lance
When Anna fell sick you were determined to find a cure and help cure Anna
Lance had questioned your loyalty to Anna many times but you ended up kicking his ass and demanding that he help you find a cure instead of wasting time questioning you
You both eventually ended up enrolling into Easton, you wanted to research healing magic while Lance was set on becoming the next Divine Visionary
Your family’s personal magic is mostly healing based and creating force fields which is why your family works for others as maids, caretakers and bodyguards
During the fight against Innocent Zero, you came along as backup to heal the others and help protect them
Despite your best efforts, the enemy began to attack you in hopes of taking out the opposing forces healer
But before you could get hurt, Lance immediately came to your rescue and protected you
“Anna would be upset with me if I didn’t do everything I can to protect you. Now get out of here and find a safe distance to support us from!”
Mash Burnedead:
You and Finn had always been close friends due to the fact that your older siblings were extremely strong and you two weren’t anywhere near their level
Being Margarette Macaron’s younger sibling, you had a lot to live up to
You weren’t anywhere near as strong as them but you were extremely kind and shared a love for music with your older sibling
Despite the differences between you two, you and Magarette were close
Your personal magic allows you to create illusions, and while the illusions may be incredibly powerful, your magic is considered weak and useless
When you met Mash, he thought your magic was amazing and complimented you on it
When you tried to protect Mash from Orter during his trial by making an illusion of mash using magic, Orter attacked you
Mash was furious when he saw that and quickly moved to defend you.
You stood in front of Mash before the Divine Visionaries and told them that magic exists to protect what you love and that if they want to kill Mash then they’ll have to kill you
Mash put his hand on your shoulder and walked in front of you “it’s okay, I can handle this. But thanks”
Abyss Razor:
You were a young maid in the Razor household
You were assigned to Abyss and looked after his needs
When his eye appeared and his parents locked him in a cell, you stayed by his side as often as you could
You would visit with him and bring him toys and books
You’d play games with him and were always kind to him
You both knew that you would be punished severely if you tried to free him. Abyss was just happy to have someone there for him
You brought him his meals and always had a smile on your face. You tell him all about your day while he ate
One day, you brought him food and he saw that there were bruises on your face and you had a split lip. Despite his questions you smiled and told him you had gotten hurt by accident
One day, his mother came down to see him, she entered the cell and began to strangle him
When you saw this, you took out your wand and attacked her. You got between them and that was when Abyss realized where your injuries came from
Seeing his mother attack you, the only person who had been kind to him, he attacked her and defended you
“I promise, so long as you’re by my side I will protect and cherish you, that’s the least I can do to repay your kindness”
Abel Walker:
You met Abel as a child
Back when his mother was alive, sometimes he would go with her when she would feed the poor
That’s where Abel met you
Your magic was incredibly strong but you were born deaf thus your parents had abandoned you since they believed you were weak
Your personal magic is wind based which causes a lot of issues for you since you’re like a walking wind storm
Due to your inability to hear, other kids pick on you and bully you
When Abel found you being picked on he made the bullies leave before taking you to his mother
His mother felt for you and decided to take you back with them and taught you sign language
You and Abel grew very close after the death of his mother and you both became each other’s support
When Abel and you enrolled in Easton, you both created the Magia Lupis and started gathering people for it
Eventually Mash would come and beat Abel
When Cell War showed up to try and kill Abel, you threw yourself between them and fought off Cell War until Mash arrived
In the process both you and Abyss got hurt protecting Abel but Abyss’s injuries were worse
After the fight, Abel approached you and hugged you
“Thank you for always being by my side. I promise I will become someone worthy of your support”
