Treadmill progressive run. Started at 6.3mph and bumped it .1mph every .4mile. Of course it looks like a flat pace on Garmin Connect. Treadmill reported a full fifth of a mile more than my Garmin (and it seems it’s doing so pretty consistently), so I’m totally OK counting previous GPS glitch miles in my total.
Family taekwondo tonight. James led class. We pretty much just did stations - James, Tom, and Mark held the big kicks pads and the few of us in class went around doing whatever kick they told us. Front kick, side kick, reverse side kick, roundhouse, and LOT of reverse roundhouses. That last one I’m glad about, I got to put into practice the various tips Master Chung had given me previously. I got the instructors pretty hard on the pads - hopefully I didn’t bruise them.
I decided to keep my Monday diet as scheduled, and just do my push, pull, and roll routine.
For those who need help deciphering my hieroglyphics, that’s 50 of each. I’m kind of proud of that as I’ve been slowly working my way up to that. I’d like to maybe get to a spot where I can do that sort of thing maybe daily. But, I’ll just make baby steps towards that, much as I’ve made baby steps toward this.
I noticed tonight (as I had previously that last time I did these) that I appear to have a ‘new’ vein showing up on my bicep. It kind of splits off from the ‘usual’ one and goes toward my elbow. Don’t get me wrong, these things are rarely visible on my arms (and probably only to me) and only show up while I’m working hard - BUT - these are the kinds of little NSV’s that really get me jazzed up*. And I need this kind of boost, because I went totally off the rails on my diet over the weekend. I didn’t officially weigh in this morning** because I knew it’d be heavy and ALSO we only have one bathroom and I didn’t have any privacy***. But I snuck a peak and didn’t like what I saw. Probably mostly water weight. I’ll just focus on meeting (more closely) my macro goals this week and I’ll be right back on track.
* Growing up as a chubby kid I never had visible veins anywhere. For some reason visible veins always struck me as a benchmark for fitness (and lack of fatness). I got super excited when I saw my first one(s?) ever on the backs of my hands. This was probably around the time I started dabbling on the swim team in high school. A single bicep vein had been a goal of mine in the past. I figured when I had that I’d be pretty set. Turns out to not be true (unless I just have to wait until I get to the point they’re ALWAYS visible). But it’s still a visual way for me to sort of measure my fat loss progress. My bicep veins decided to go into hiding at some point in the last few years. I’ve been happy to see them again the last month or so, and super extra happy to see the friend they brought back with them :)
** I weigh in before eating or drinking anything, after visiting the facilities, and also generally after my shower***. I also won’t count it if e.g. I’ve already done a workout like my Saturday early AM group runs. I try to minimize all variables to get as clear a picture as possible.
*** Because I weigh in after I’ve finished drying myself off and BEFORE I get dressed. And we’ve just got the one bathroom upstairs. And my son had just started brushing his teeth. Priorities, am I right?
