TW: OCD, Horror Movie-like intrusive thoughts
I hate having OCD, I really do.
I always wanted to make music, and I could never really all that much get into piano or guitar. I was seventeen when I decided to try again - with an accordion. And I loved it. I enjoyed it.
I like to think I was even a bit talented.
And then I got my own accordion, it had belonged to the seller‘s dead father, and been in storage for about ten years. It was beautiful, and it sounded nice.
And I got intrusive thoughts about What if the dead father‘s ghost will haunt and kill me when I use his accordion?
This had happened years ago with the piano as well. I got convinced that if I didn’t make any wrong moves while playing something, I would turn into the piano, or something.
I eventually sold the accordion again. Sometimes, looking at an accordion or the old teaching books triggers me.
I hate OCD
As a sufferer of OCD, I am very passionate about OCD awareness and understanding. I think there should be a symbol that represents OCD, like there is for ADHD and ASD. However, when I look up "Mental disorder symbols," the one for OCD is an image of a checklist inside someone's head. Personally, I feel like that isn't an accurate representation for ALL subtypes, and the teal ribbon for OCD awareness also has other meanings. So, I've decided to design my own symbol; one that I think truly represents all subtypes of OCD.
-The teal color is a nod to the teal ribbon
-The shield split in half represents how OCD can make us FEEL like our compulsions are protecting us or others, but they are actually hurting us.
- The chain looping around the halves of the shield in the shape of an infinity symbol represents the feeling of being trapped in a never-ending cycle of obsessions and compulsions.
Please, please, PLEASE let me know what you think of it and/or if you have any ideas to add to it or change about it. I welcome anyone with OCD who likes designing to design an OCD symbol, too. I just want there to be a symbol for OCD made and approved by the OCD community.
a crucial part of the OCD experience is making the mistake of telling someone you have it, and then having to endure “omg i’m kinda OCD about that too” and “your OCD is gonna love this!” for the rest of all time
every couple of years I read more about OCD and go "huh. I think I, my mother, her mother, and her father all have moderate to severe OCD" and then forget about it until a couple years later when I read more about OCD and go "huh,
I fucking Love reblogging and adding tags. Go in your little folders, you silly little words!! I file you away!! I label you!!! I Organise you!!!
i don’t think people will ever realise how serious, dehabilitating, draining ocd is.
it’s not all about lining things up and washing your hands
it’s about the convincing yourself you’re something awful.
compulsions that are time consuming and draining.
it’s the constant worry you’ve done or said something to offend someone.
it’s the co morbid disorders like trichotillomania, misophonia and more just draining you more.
it’s the constant “just rights”.
it’s the permanent engraved intrusive thoughts that are constantly replaying.
it’s the constant seeking reassurance.
it’s about living in fear because you’re so scared you’ll act out on an intrusive thought.
it’s the constant dread and anxiety.
so so many more.
why, what and how would you want this disorder
why are you romanticising this
