Obscure Emotion Asks

It’s been far too long since I put out some asks!

✨ Most of these were inspired by entries in The Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows, which is a a very fun site to browse for writing inspiration / Shameless self promo linky to all my other ask prompts ✨

Existentialism

Occhiolism- Describe a time when Rook realized how small and insignificant they are.

Nodus Tollens- Has Rook ever felt like their life didn’t make sense to them anymore?

Ellipsism- Does Rook ever worry about what will happen in the future when they are no longer here?

Nighthawk- does Rook have any recurring thoughts/fears/responsibilities which seemingly only appear at night?

Chrysilism- Where does Rook feel the most safe?

Kairosclerosis- Does Rook ever feel (felt?) truly, unabashedly happy?

Ludiosis- Up until now, has Rook felt like they had a plan for their lives? Or are they a “fly by the seat of their pants” type?

Keyframe- describe a moment in Rook’s life that seemed inconsequential, but actually changed them (their trajectory, beliefs, values) greatly?

Dead Reckoning- Describe a death which affected Rook more than they thought it would.

Jouska- What’s one argument/fight Rook wishes they could do over? What would they do differently and why does it bother them?

Altschmerz- What flaws, anxieties, or shortcomings has Rook always had? Have they tried to change these, or have they just accepted them as part of who they are?

Don't mind me, just lore dumping about my favourite Princess, Duncan Surana 🪽🏹

Duncan joined Varric for one reason. He wants to be a hero. Being the Hero of Ferelden's Son, he feels that he needs to follow in his mother's footsteps. do something great like she did 20 years ago.

he doesnt want people knowing he's the son of a living legend, hence the alias Rook and the fake last name "Thorne". he wants to make his own mark on the world.

He's the youngest of the team (my other rooks included), being only 21 during the game's events. He wants nothing more than to prove himself worthy of being his mother's son. Now this need to be a hero isn't from pressure by Miri, but is rather born from the grief of losing his father.

Duncan also isn't really a Warden; while he is technically blighted, his situation is unique thanks to the fact that both his parents were Wardens; he's able to sense blight, but his sense is considerably weaker than that of those who've undergone the Joining.

Wardens, however, can sense Duncan. Unlike the weaker feeling they sense when other wardens are around, a Grey Warden's sense can't distinguish between a darkspawn and the taint Duncan possesses. There's still no real explanation of what exactly is happening in Duncan's body.

Unhinged Rook Lore Monday

Me: "I’ll just make my Rook’s parents in Character Creator as a reference for physical descriptions while writing."

Also me: *Ends up making a full TikTok edit about them, showing how Rook draws strength from their memory whenever she needs encouragement—foreshadowing the Varric hallucination arc and establishing that Solas exploited her existing predisposition.*

I can’t write nor draw cause I’m too tired waiting for this terrible shift to end so I’m gonna lore dump about Bas a little since he’s on the dome

So Bas transitioned very young but was figured out to be a mage before he could fully transition at the age of 16. He was turned to a Saarabas since he was part of the Qun at the time and while he hated it entirely, it was the only way he did feel safe from possession because that’s how the Qun explained it to him. He truly thought were he not binded as Saarabas are, he’d instantly get possessed.

Unfortunately at 20, Bad was assaulted and fell pregnant but by this time he knew he wanted to leave the Qun. With the help of other Saarabas, he did manage to escape however he had to stop before he could escape because he gave birth to his child, a son he named Hissera (hope). They were recaptured though not before Bad managed to murder a whole lot of them but fell due to exhaustion.

Bas was meant to be sent to the reeducators in attempt to rid him of his disloyalty but he escaped before they could get him there, managing to find Hissera and escaping a 2nd time, this time successfully.

Like many escaping Qunari, they ended up in Rivain and from there, he met a women elf Estella who would later become very important to him…

For Rook Appreciation Week: A Rook Move

Yayyyyy I made it! I really wanted to contribute this week, and get it in before the end of Laidir day!

Xiqaa Laidir listens to a voice from the past tell a story that just maybe never happened. If it did happen, it didn't happen like this.

Snippet below, for gold and glory!

“We... got a shipment I thought you should know about.”

Xiqaa watched Isabela, seated comfortably above the Hall of Valor’s arena. They’d come at her summons. Without a word, Isabela frowned at the small chest beside her and nudged it toward Xiqaa with the toe of her boot.

“I didn’t go through everything in there, but I saw your name a few times. Figured you might want to take these.”

“What is it?”

“I just said I didn’t go through it,” Isabela replied, smirking.

Xi rolled their eyes. “A hint would be nice.”

“Varric’s things. Forwarded from Kirkwall and points beyond.”

Xiqaa snatched the bottle sitting half-full on the table.

“What’s in this?”

Without waiting for an answer, they took a long drink.

“Alvarado's Bathtub Boot Screech,” Isabela said, watching as Xi coughed and wiped tears from their eyes. “Good way to get the waterworks started.”

“No kidding,” Xi wheezed. “If it’s all the same to you, I’d rather mourn in private — with my vocal cords intact.”

Booker and Lucanis being fuckin wholesome!

First we have a weird stand off of i guess who cracks first?? I went to go get something to drink and came back to this.

*Smashes them together like two barbies... now kissss*

After le spicy scene. Just look how tenderly they look at each other.

I also have more lore about the injuries from the dragon attack that made Booker loose his eye pre-veilguard, and it explains his more full body scars. When he punched the dragon in the face he basically did it DBZ style and had a charged lightning attack around that fist/arm. When the dragon swiped at him it wasn't done discharging and it kinda exploded on him. So it looks like he was struck by lightning up that arm and down that side and leg. He can't feel much on that half of his body from nerve damage and the explosion is what caused him to become mostly deaf in that ear, but dammit he's still a fuckin gremlin and will rain chaos upon ye.
