Look, I’m not asking for much here, at this point I don’t think anyone can ask for too much but all I want for a Twilight AU is this:
- Vampires don’t fucking sparkle in the sun. They might shimmer a bit, but no damn 2002 sparkly glitter bomb shit.
- Instead, vampires look terrifying in the sun. All of their beauty is enhanced, but the sun removes their mask. They no longer look so enticingly beautiful to humans in the sun, they absolutely look like the most dangerous, soul sucking, terrifying predators that they’re meant to be. A human takes one look at a vampire in the sun and sees them for the blood sucking fiend they’re described as in most vampire lore. Their beauty is still present, but becomes more enhanced in a grotesque and chilling way.
- That’s why they’re not allowed to reveal themselves to humans and that’s why they avoid the sun. Not because it hurts them, but because it reveals them as the monsters that they are and the Volturi doesn’t want a modern reboot of witch/vampire hunts ala Spanish Inquisition that happened before. A lot like how the Wizarding World in Harry Potter is so insistent on total secrecy and segregation from Muggles, because of all the Witch Trials and the Spanish Inquisition.
- So yeah, I want to see totally scary, horror movie-esq terrifying full on predator Twilight Vampires, even the Cullens. The scarier monster isn’t the one with red skin, red eyes and devil horns, it’s the one that looks like an angel until the very last moment, when they’ve got you in their clutches and rip off their mask to drain you dry.
- Even the Cullens should still be terrifyingly beautiful in the sunlight, even if they don’t drink human blood anymore.
- Imagine how much more terrifying Rosalie would’ve been to her human attackers if she had gone after them during the day and didn’t fucking sparkle like she’d literally bathed in glitter beforehand. Imagine an absolutely horrified, scared shitless Royce King seeing the monster that Rosalie had become before she brutally murdered him, like the badass queen that she is.
- Edward’s emo “Woe is me, I’m such a terrible soulless monster, waaah!” Attitude would’ve made a whole lot more sense if he had actually ever looked terrifying.
- And if Bella had still fallen for Edward and still wanted to become a vampire even after seeing him in the sunlight, she would’ve been an even bigger dumbass, tbh.
- Also, Jacob’s anger at Bella’s decision to be with Edward and to become a vampire would’ve been way more understandable.
- The whole Quileute tribe’s hatred of Vampires would totally be even more understanble, even their hatred/distrust of the Cullens. And their adamant refusal to allow Bella to be turned would’ve been a way bigger issue than Smeyer portrayed it as.
- Oh, and James, Victoria and Laurent would’ve been more terrifying and believable villains, too.
- This would also justify the fear and hatred towards Renesmee cause how much more fucking terrifying would she have been as a baby?
