Gravitas - Weapon Ref

Hey peeps!

Here’s a tiny break from commission-posting with another RWBY ref sheet!

This time it’s the weapon of my lovely OC, Kaldera Avant of Team KOHL, who’s based on the idiom “Pot Calling the Kettle Black”

I heard pots and kettles and wanted to make a witch themed character wielding either a broomstick or cauldron-esque weapon, which eventually evolved into Gravitas, a combination pogo stick/rocket launcher Kaldera can swing around with reckless abandon

It’s taken me a WHILE to make a weapon design that feels somewhat adjacent to the show proper, but I think I’ve finally done it, and I’m so happy!! Now, it’s onto the rest of my main OC team in hopes to get them all developed enough for ArtFight :)

Was thinking abt scythes just now and you know what's a really good and functional fictional scythe? Harbinger

For those that don't know, Harbinger is a weapon from rwby, a show that follows "rule of kewl" when it comes to the weapons, meaning every weapon has an over the top transformation sequence, and is also a gun. Harbinger is wielded be Qrow, a drunkard whose semblance (superpower) is bad luck, and is a gun-sword-scythe combo. The weapon said to be inspired by Harbinger is so impractical, even from an impractical scythe sense

Like jesus christ. Anyways, Harbinger is (semi) practical because it looks like this:

If you'll notice, during that transformation, that little red bit that pops out it's the inside blade, meaning Harbinger is double edged. Additionally, the blade curves down far, unlike Cresent Rose, meaning the top edge can be used in a practical way, instead of having to extend Harbinger out and bring it towards you. Contrariliy, Cresent Rose had a double edged tip, and a straighter edge, meaning Ruby has to swing at an enemy with enough precision to hit the edge, like so;

(The blade rotates so she can swing backwards) or do what was previously mentioned, and pull back, like so:

Note: Cresent Rose can turn into a glaive, put that doesn't seem relevant because she only uses it at high speeds

All in all, Harbinger is probably the best scythe, even though scythes are horribly impractical for anything other than farming and looking cool.

There's a Garden, Where We Go...

Thistle and Wake are my wife @lunarchandelure and my RWBY OCs! They are on team WATR (mysterious members A&R conveniently not in this shot).

Thistle Crest (she/her) is a human from the western edges of Vale, up in the frigid highlands. With a prickly outside with a soft interior, she respects those who are strong, regardless of race or class. While she can be gruff at first, she eventually opens up to her team (especially Wake) over time. She's a bit of a tsundere and secretly has a sweet tooth, especially for maple syrup. Her weapon is a battle axe named Carduus Securis. It can fold up into a LMG; when it does this, the axe blade can split in two and act as a shield protecting her (like the turret in Halo 3). Her semblance is called Thorn Veil which can create earthen spikes around her from the ground. She can use these spikes defensively or launch them a short distance to attack opponents.

Wake Shorlin (she/they) is an otter Faunus, originally from Menagerie, who moved to Vale to explore the vast world beyond their continental island. She's playful and silly, having a hard time taking things seriously because they're too busy trying to provoke laughs from Thistle. While they're sensitive, they can also be pretty blunt. Her weapon, Quadrant Clearer, is a huge four pronged trident (hence quadrant). The curled, claw-like tines can extend forward and grab onto an opponent; when this happens, Wake gets a power surge that allows them to lift the opponent and throw/slam them. The tines can bloom into barrels to form a four-barrelled blunderbuss. Her semblance is called "Self Reflection", and it allows her to pull mirrored duplicates of themself from any body of water; this duplicate can copy her moves and Wake can see through the copies' eyes. She uses these for reconnaissance, but also as a distraction: imagine two Wakes with two Quadrant Clearers bull-rushing you.

So, Summer Rose truly was The Hunter in the Woods.

An Axe-Gun wielder.  Not a scythe wielder.

I kept telling people that Summer never used a scythe...I was right.

Its interesting to see her design take differences away from Ruby’s outfit, which is good so that Ruby isn’t a carbon copy of Summer.

A RWBY weapon I have been tinkering with for an OC. 

Deshret & Hedjet - the red & white crowns of the old kingdoms in Egypt; when combined they create Pschent - The Double Crown. 

The individual blades loose fire and wind blasts respectively, while when combined into a dual bladed sword they can create a whirlwind of flame or act as a bow.
