#09 _Torso, scapulae
Scapulae have a rather triangular shape, as you may know. To me it’s always been rather impossible to spot them on muscular figures, while of course they’re pretty easy to notice on thin people. In any case, the parts that you will probably see on the surface are the bottom angular tip (it’s the most prominent), and the acromion, that is visible at the top of the shoulders (as we’ve already seen when we talked about clavicles). On top of that: muscles, muscles, muscles.
Even if they’re not very visible, though, it’s still important to determine their position (placing ribcage and spinal column will help in this) in order to better build the figure and understand where/how muscles should be placed next.
When you move your shoulders, guess what? The scapula bones move too. In a normal position - which is when you keep your arms down - their long edge is almost parallel to the vertebral column. If you start to move your arms, though, the scapulae will start to rotate, tilt, move upwards or downwards, following the shoulders.
