Dad Bruce who sits you in his lap while he works on cases down in the cave after you've asked to go out into town one too many times. You say it's fine because he'll be right there with you. He shows you a recent case of a young woman around your age who was brutally assaulted and murdered in a back alley after having gone to the bathroom on a date. Two minutes away from the table was all it took. He was too late to stop it; he only found her body after it was cold. He warns you that even he is not perfect and can't always be there to protect you.
"Look at her face," he says. "Do you think I would be able to ID you like that?"
You shake your head and try to hide your face in his cape, but he pushes you gently to look at the screen. He shows you another case, a cold one from years ago, about a girl left in catatonia after he found her in time. There are too many risks, too many variables to let you out. Don't you see now why he keeps you safe right here in the manor? You'd never stand a chance out there on your own.
