Just some thoughts
You ever find it kinda hard to explain SPD/Dyspraxia to your friends? Like perhaps you’re describing an article of clothing that hurts your skin, or maybe how you can’t handle the texture of a certain food.
Maybe they say “Oh yeah! I feel the same way about ~said article of clothing~ too! Makes me wanna jump out of my skin!”
I typically feel two ways.
Either “oh I guess other people feel like this too! I’m not so weird after all! I don’t have any normal senses to compare my SPD to, so it makes me feel better that this feeling isn’t just an SPD thing.”
But most of the time I feel like “no you don’t understand!!! It’s so much worse with SPD and Dyspraxia! It’s harder! Don’t say that you feel the same way because you can’t understand what I feel like. I don’t have normal senses/coordination!!”
And I hate that second feeling. I hate feeling that way. But I guess sometimes I think my feelings aren’t valid when someone relates to me? It’s weird to explain.
You never really realise how many people don't understand the concept of personal space until you're touch averse in a crowded room
Quick Rant!
I’m trying to get a job. It sucks to wear really professional clothes, because my sensory processing just HATES it.
Ears...too sensitive...I can’t listen to music without having the volume close to mute
SPD mood is going to a Christmas party and having loud noises that make your ears strain, but not have the noise hurt your parents ears.
Heellllppp
How do I explain to my straight boyfriend that as an asexual with Sensory Processing Disorder that he can't cuddle with me for a whole entire movie?! If he brings over a Lord of the Rings EXTENDED EDITION movie, I'm in trouble.
