My skin is touching my body too much today- you know what I mean?
You know, the only neurotypical person my life I've ever seen really understand my sensory processing issues has been a computer programmer; I say that Everything Is Too Much, and he understands that all of that sensory input is running through the same channel. I had a mental shutdown one day in public, and he immediately sat me down, put something in my hands, and said "here, squish this for a while". It's nice to not have to explain it, you know?
Everybody wish me good luck for tommorow!
Good night everyone, here's to no anxiety attacks, no distractions, no sensory processing sensitivity, good focus, and good vibes only on exam day. (Just in case!) 🥂
On bullshit “cure” hypotheticals and the negatives of autism
I hate when people point out that while there are positives to being autistic, there are negatives to being autistic. So “why don’t you want to get rid of it if you don’t like X, Y, and Z about autism?”
Because it’s a fundamental part of my personality, jackass. Because literally everyone has things that they naturally struggle with more than others. Because literally everyone has things they wish they could change about themselves.
Many of mine ARE autism-related, like my inability to cope with change, or my misophonia, or having semi-frequent meltdowns, or my tendency to forget stuff (that may be more ADHD-related, but there’s a ton of overlap and also that’s not the point).
People wish that they were better at math, or not tone-deaf, or more patient, or less prone to sun burns, or less temperamental. I don’t hear NTs with those kinds of complaints wishing away their ENTIRE BRAINS AND PERSONALITIES.
Yes, I have autism, and parts of that suck. And parts of it are awesome. Parts are both. Welcome to being a fucking human with a personality.
any other autists/adhd people just Not Able to process fight scenes because there are Way Too Many people doing Way Too Many things Way Too quickly?
Me: everything is Too Much and I can't stand it
My Mom: literally nothing is happening
Ears...too sensitive...I can’t listen to music without having the volume close to mute
When your auditory processing problems are so bad that you seriously can't tell if someone is speaking another language or if you just can't understand them
