Some people’s understanding (or lack thereof) of colonialism and decolonization is fucking Dogshit.
As in genuinely terrible.
Non-understanding.
All they can say is “western Europe bad” while also bafflingly ignoring how people like the Irish were colonized, often dismissing their experience entirely (MANY such cases).
Blindly assuming all of the west to automatically be colonisers. Which we aren’t, see my own country (Ireland).
While also turning a blind eye to non-western colonial fuckery and imperialism. (Sometimes intentionally. Sometimes just due to lack of knowledge)
I’m saying this as a western leftist myself. One whose own country is still half colonized by the British.
Their understanding of such matters is about as nuanced as a shitty 2013 Buzzfeed article.
*side note: This post is NOT for apologists of imperialism and colonial fuckery, tankies, cranks, fascists, supporters of the Russian invasion of Ukraine and/or any supporters of any such imperialism to begin with. Y’all can shit off*
