The plot thickens!!!! I’m really excited to see where the story will go from here but I’m also nervous about it!

I didn’t find Sigmund’s reveal about his involvement with Desmond and Project Apple to be too surprising since it was heavily hinted with him specializing in neurology but I’m curious as to what triggered his memory. This isn’t the first time he met Anya or had long conversations with her. Barbara mentioned “the sinking feeling” while looking out the window so could it be related to the time of day or moon phases (like with Anya’s powers)? Or does Sigmund have some sort of powers too?

Either way, Sigmund only suspects Anya being Subject #7 so he isn’t actually sure yet. Right now, his notes is the linchpin that can unravel Operation Strix so I hope it doesn’t fall into the wrong hands especially Desmond’s.

Endo-sensei loves writing morally-grey characters so I believe that Sigmund can have a similar narrative like Billy Squire. He could’ve started out with good intentions but then got caught up in Desmond’s plans.

I know that Sigmund isn’t completely innocent but I don’t think he’s complete bad either. The panel above shows his sincerity even with his aging memory. My theory is that he didn’t sign up to do these experiments, opposed Desmond’s plans and walked away but his guilt made him repressed his memories about the past.

Well, seems like Sigmund's involvement in Project Apple has been more or less confirmed?! 👀

As I mentioned in my post about the previous chapter, I described the evidence we have so far for not only Donovan being able to read minds, but possible ways Sigmund was involved with that project as well. Not only that, but it's long been theorized that Donovan has some connection to Project Apple. And that as well is seeming more true. It's hard to make out, but you can see in the first line that Sigmund writes next to "Project:" is the uppercase "A" and lowercase "p" for "Apple." The "<C>" on the second line must be some kind of code/cipher perhaps?

Whether Sigmund chose to forget everything himself (out of guilt), was forced to (because he knew too much), or simply as a result of dementia, is still unclear. But regardless, it's pretty much fact now that he had some involvement in Project Apple, likely just as he described to Loid - he helped out on the medical/research side. But it also seems like he recognized Anya as being one of the test subjects!

It's hard to say how he suddenly realized this after he's known her for a while, but my theory is that all her passionate questioning about evil organizations tipped him off. Also, assuming he was still part of the Project when Anya was born, the memory of what she looked like, and/or how she resembles her mother, may have come back to him that night. Another idea is that perhaps he knows the feeling of when someone reads his mind, which is why he seems to "perk up" whenever he helps her study...because it's helping him remember feelings from his past, which he's now slowly piecing together.

Another idea is that, his recognizing Anya as a test subject is what made him write the above question "could the plan still be underway?" This to me implies that he's surprised a girl as young as Anya is a test subject, which means the experiments must have still been going on as little as five years ago. If this theory is true, he left the project a long time ago and assumed "the plan" (to give people mind-reading powers perhaps?) was either finished or cancelled. But suddenly all these years later, he meets a 5-year old girl who's one of the test subjects, so now he knows Project Apple is still ongoing.

With all this in mind, Sigmund now knows that Loid is not Anya's real father. If I were him, I would wonder how much Loid knows about who Anya really is and how much he's just pretending to be a normal family.

I guess that's all the theorizing I have for today's chapter. Last thing I want to point out is that, as usual, Endo is able to seamless mix in some good jokes amid all the lore-dumping. This part made me crack up 🤣

The fact that it's been 2 years since the "welcome home kiss" gag first appeared and Endo still brings it up only reinforces to me that it's going to actually happen someday (and probably not as a joke). We'll see 😅

But wow, this year has been almost nonstop with plot-focused chapters, and I'm loving it! As usual, it's hard to tell if the next chapter will continue this arc or start a new one, but with all these new plot-developments of the past 20-ish chapters, I can't wait to see where the story goes from here!

Anyone else have a feeling Professor Authen was purposefully made 'forgetful' and it's not just dementia?

My personal theory is he maybe knew too much or just was suffering massive amounts of guilt over the experiments and so tried to erase his own memory. I don't know just seems like a weird coincidence in timing to me 🤔

Guys, I think I just had an epiphany...!! 😲

I don't know if anyone else has thought of this yet, but... What if the Project <C>...:

...that Sigmund wrote down in Mission 122 stood for "Chimera"...!! Just like Anya's doll, Mr. Chimera!! 🤯

I don't know if that's what Project <C> truly stands for, but I literally just thought of it and it makes total sense to me!! 😄 So, what do you guys think...?! 🤔
