“Just wash your face!” Twice a day with gentle formulated cleaners for three years now, several formulas for months at a time. Didn’t work.

“It’ll clear up when you’re 18!” It did not.

“Eat clean!” I have to eat pretty clean because of my health issues. I’ve been essentially on a diet since I was 12. Now what.

“Wash your pillowcase!” Weekly, in unscented detergent (because eczema), and I shower before bed.

“Don’t wear makeup!” Unless my lipstick is teleporting to my forehead, I don’t think it’s that since lipsticks are all I wear 99% of the time.

Seriously, I’m at my wits end with cystic acne. Anyone with advice, products that actually work, anything that’ll keep me from having to wear a black face mask every time I step outside because I look like a plague carrier?

Having keratosis pilaris doesn't mean you're dirty or gross. It has nothing to do with your personal hygiene. It's unavoidable, but it's not a personal failing. It's just a thing that happens to your skin. It's more common than you think, it's genetic, and it doesn't mean you're trailer trash. Yeah, I've heard people say that. It's just keratin. You're not filthy. You're armored.
