The spleenless wonder strikes again
My older brother just handed me a baby pig spleen in a ziploc??? I asked why and he just said "I figured you needed one"
Why???
Tim Drake/Batfam fans do with this what you will
If you don't have a spleen you can't hold your breath for as long because the spleen holds a supply of oxygen rich blood that it releases when you hold your breath.
When the splenectomy patient’s PCV reaches 30%
Which immune system part are you? Tonsil: reclusive and easily tamed with ice cream? Thymus: nurturing yet thinks life ends after childhood? Spleen: tough yet disposable? Or are you a Lymph Node: omnipresent and easily irritated? Share with your immunology bestie!
DC Query: Tim’s Splenectomy.
Considering Tim’s age and lifestyle, he would need to be on long term prophylactic antibiotics periodically. He could, depending on his overall health, simply have to take prophylactic antibiotics everyday. He would also need extra antibiotics and immunizations whenever he traveled (as Tim or Red Robin). Plus a yearly flu shot at the least.
Where would he get them?
Does he get them from Dr Thompkins? Does he set up a lab in a corner of the Batcave and make them himself? Does he buy them from Europe or Mexico? Does he ask Jason if he knows anyone in the Gotham underground who deals in antibiotics? Does he pull a Bruce and have Drake Industries or Wayne Enterprises absorb a pharmaceutical company so he can offer low cost medication while he also siphons off the antibiotics and immunizations he needs?
Theoretically, he could come up with a logical reason as to why his spleen had been damaged (mugging gone wrong, attack against Bruce or WE, escaped Rogue, etc) then go to a physician and get a proper prescription.
The problem is, what f the physician wanted to check him out? Yes, they would find that his spleen has been removed. But even if he waited until his other wounds were healed, they would also find evidence of them. As well as evidence that he’s suffered numerous other injuries, including broken bones, and is covered in scars from assorted weapons/sources.
He’s young enough (and in the public eye enough) that there are very few conclusions the doctor could reach. If the doctor doesn’t go straight to shit I’m treating a Robin, then Tim’s biological parents are the first culprits they’d consider. We’re they abusive? Part of a cult? Neglectful and continually left Tim with an abuser or were unaware that he was being harmed by someone else?
Should they, the doctor, call Child Services? The Police? His current legal guardian? The tabloids?
It would be too risky.
With his lifestyle, he couldn’t just ignore the fact that he was missing a significant part of his immune system. That would also be too risky.
So how did he get them?
Awesome 5 hours in theatre doing my first ever splenectomy and gastropexy! One step closer to becoming a vet! 😷✂️🙏🏼
