My 2026 has been off to an amazing start in terms of movie watches because on the one hand I’ve seen People We Meet On Vacation and Zootopia 2 which were both cute and fun very solid 4 star watches and then on the other hand I’ve seen Hamnet and Spotlight which are both all timer masterpieces.
I watched the movie Spotlight yesterday and I can’t stop thinking about the final scene. In the build up to the story being published, I was kind of subconsciously waiting for the blow up— the flashing lights at a big press conference, montages of news footage, priests in handcuffs!
but instead, our intrepid reporters come into the office that day and at first it seems calm, but they realize that the phones in the spotlight office are ringing off the hook. and it’s all victims. and then the movie ends. chills!!
happy 58th birthday

Tw: Topics of pedophilia, sexual abuse of children, also the catholic church
So I was reading reviews for Conclave, some of them were funny and others pissed me off.
I know there's a HUGE issue within the Catholic church and the sexual abuse of children. But Conclave is not the movie for that subject. Yes, it's mentioned for a split second, and then they move forward. That's not what Conclave is about. It's a movie about picking a new Pope.
There are other movies, like Spotlight (2015). It's a true story about a newspaper that researches and publishes the priests in the Catholic church being moved around. [After finding out they sexually abuse the children] and not being kicked out of the Catholic church. The piece in the paper brings light to the issue of victims of Catholic churches.
Also, just because people enjoyed Conclave does not mean they're pedophile sympathizers (unfortunately, I saw someone refer to people who like this movie as pedophile sympathizers and that they didn't care about the victims).
Do I sound sane? I just wanted to write my thoughts out about the subject. Getting into the Catholic church as a whole is a WHOLE other topic that I could yap about.
