Sturges Headcanons

Was one of the synths that was meant to be a replacement, so there was a Sturges doppelganger out there until he died to raiders. 

Makes junk sculptures out of scrap that can't be used to repair the houses in sanctuary, usually small animals like a radstag that can fit in the palm of your hand. 

Knows how to play guitar and will pull it out around the fire after a couple beers. Can sing passably, as well, and would be the kind of father to sing his baby to sleep.

Likes to collect tools, even if he has one of the same exact type/size, in case they break or get lost. 

Has nothing against ghouls, but definitely has a lot of questions, simply because he's an instinctually curious creature. Wouldn't ask them out loud though, unless he was quite close with the ghoul, and the ghoul knew he meant no disrespect. 

Sees Mama Murphy, the Longs, and Garvey like family. Closest with Mama Murphy and Marcy. He loves to listen to Mama's stories and her visions, even if he doesn't actually believe most of them. Supports Marcy through her grief, letting her vent her anger and never taking her barbs to heart, though not hesitating to draw the line when she goes too far and remind her that he and the other survivors aren't the enemy. 

Actually quite intelligent, and great at reading body language. Knows when someone is lying but 9 times out of 10 he won't call them out on it, unless he's already angry. More likely to just let it ride out and see where the lie goes, as he dislikes confronting people. 

Can be quite intimidating when angry, due to his sheer size of course, but also because of the sheer disappointed anger on his face, like a stern dad. Also will end up clenching whatever is in his hand quite tight, to try and hold in his anger, but this has caused injuries and broken dishes in the past. 

Would prefer his cup of coffee in a rocking chair on the porch while he watches the sunrise, but will take it to warm his hands while he takes the morning watch. Drinks it black, but would probably add far too much sugar if he had access to it. 

Has learned to drink his coffee before going to work as he has accidentally drank oil by that way, before.  

Once he settles in he sets up a workshop to fill with his trinkets and tool collection. It looks like a mess to everyone else, but he knows exactly where everything is and he will know if you move even one screw. 

Has a sweet tooth, especially fancy lad cakes. 

Also loves a good, home made soup, especially if there’s bread to soak up the broth with. 

Used to smoke cigarettes, but it bothered Kyle, Marcy and Jun's son, and he would have done anything to make his Godson happy. Now chews on raw razorgrain, jerky, or gum to curb the cravings.

Loves to get his hands on pre-war tech (rotary phones, radios, tvs, etc) and take them apart to learn all their pieces and how they worked. Has a bucketlist: fix up a pre-war car, or better yet a motorcycle, to driveable. Get his hands on a pipboy so he can take it apart, and see if he can put it back together again and it still be functional. Build and customize his own set of power armor from scratch, though he’d probably never have much use for one aside from help lifting particularly heavy scrap. 

Is a sucker for a good adventure story, the more exaggerated the better. R.i.p. Sturges, you would have loved the Hobbit audiobook. 

Physically affectionate, more so the closer he gets to someone. Starts with a heavy clap of his hand on the shoulder or brushing his fingers against the back of your hand as you try to walk by, but he wants your attention. Then it becomes gently moving you aside whenever you’re in the way, or hands on showing you how to hold a tool or screw in a bulb. Then it’s coming up behind you whenever you try to reach for something high up, pressing close to you as he grabs it for you with ease. Then squeezing into the space next to you on the couch when there’s definitely not enough room, and when you point this out he throws an arm behind you and draws you into his chest, so you’re resting on him. Eventually turns into napping in the same bed, kissing the top of your head without thinking about it, or fully lifting you off the ground as he hugs you after a long time apart. 

Carries a pencil in his ear always, so he can take it out to jot down a new idea or some component he needs for a project. Though the majority of the pencil’s time not tucked behind his ear is spent hanging between his lips, because he needed his hands for some tool or piece of scrap or another but he would need the pencil again soon so why would he stick it back behind his ear. 

Loves all animals that won’t try to eat him, but is partial to a cute dog. Loves seeing them wagging their tails with their tongue half out their mouths and their head cocked to the side. Classic. 

Surprisingly good at skipping rocks. It’s just science. 

Wants to adopt kids, if he ever has them. He’d happily have a biological one, if that’s what his spouse wanted, but also knows there’s plenty of orphans out there in need of loving parents. Every time he thinks about children growing up all alone, without any love, his throat gets tight and his vision blurry. He’d also agree to having no children, if that’s what the love of his life wanted, but he would purely do it out of love for his spouse and it’s something he’d have to come to terms with. He’d be sad for a little while, though he’d never make his spouse feel guilty about wanting children, until he’d realize he could simply be the best uncle to every kid that passes through Sanctuary instead. 

Would love an artistic spouse or child, so he can put their art all over the house, hanging it on walls or filling the shelves with it. Spends a lot of time really looking it over so he can really take in whatever the art is saying. Always has the perfect compliment.

Ok I know it’s been like almost eight years but Sturges Fallout 4 is a Gen 3 synth that carefully curated a genial southern greaser personality for himself and I love that for him? Like yes, give me that soft spoken overalls and pompadour vibe, I will in fact eat that up. Thank you Sturges for the blessing, and for fixing my generator and having buff arms.

Not sure I like how my girl looks but she needs to wait til I can get her surgery. She's not wearing her gunners clothes cause she changed her outfit as soon as she found new clothes - She doesn't want to be recognised as a Gunner.

Did feel a bit weird when Mama Murphy was like "You gotta find your missing kid, kid." Like ma'am, what kid, maybe you got me confused with someone else.
