The weather forecast was for high winds but not until around lunchtime so I headed out early. It was warm out there 27ºC so I decided to run in the forest after doing the small hill. It was pretty windy up the top of the small hill so I ran around the big hill and into the forest. It was cooler under the trees. I noticed the wind was getting stronger so I headed for home at about 8km. When I ran out of the forest it was blowing a gale. I had to walk some of the big hill because I struggled to keep my footing. I was glad to get home and get inside into the cool.
Been a while since my last check-in. Still running and training In “maintenance” mode, but since I can't stay motivated without some type of target, I signed up for a 5K race on 7/22. That's a Wednesday night, but I've run this race many times as a member of the DC Roadrunners Club, so it's not a big deal. As long as we don't still have 100° temperatures, it will be fine.
As for today, the heat wave conditions pushed me to the pool, where I had a good workout of 1300 yards. Sometimes you have to adapt and this worked for me. Saturday’s long run will have to be an early affair though. I will be ready.
This completes the busy part of my summer. I was in bend this weekend. It was beautiful weather. Great friends and good food. This run this morning hurt slightly. Felt a little off balance. But still got it done.
Past few days of running and cross training. I went too hard on St. Patrick’s day and ran at 8:45 pace the next day and felt like I was dying but for me that’s pretty fast for being super hungover!!!!
Two really great things about this run:
It happened
I somehow timed it so that the voice on the app said "your workout is complete" just as I turned into my driveway
My running has fallen off a cliff lately, but yesterday I went out in the evening and this morning I felt like going again! I’m taking it very slow and adding in substantial walking warmups and cooldowns. Usually I’m a bit too impatient for that, but it’s been lovely, especially in the heat!
Today I listened to a podcast outlining an ideal marathon build. that, and seeing @mariana-runs and @excelwithpassion training so diligently for marathons, is making me think about trying the distance again in 2023—on a real course this time!
For the past few weeks as it got warmer and warmer and sunnier out, I've been dreaming about a very specific type of summer run: early evening easy trails in the sun, coming home to a nice cold fancy drink, making dinner and eating on the balcony. I went on plenty of evening runs but we always had jobs to do after, or it was so late I needed to go to sleep, etc etc. When I told Ben about the fantasy he suggested doing it on my birthday, when we'd be in the UK and have a bit more time. That was yesterday, when it poured all afternoon 🤣 didn't quite fulfill the sunny fantasy, but I got my run, I got my nice drink and I got pizza for dinner and honestly, it was just as awesome. Felt really good too and ran some fast miles. 26 is off to a good start!
