Saiki's thoughts | Reader's thoughts
■■■■■■■■■■
It was Monday morning and (y/n) hardly slept a wink. She was anxious about attending her first day of class in a new country. She wonders what the school culture is like.
'Are they welcoming? Will anyone even talk to me? It'd be nice if Kusuo and I have the same class together.'
The girl's thoughts are all over the place, but there was no time to waste. She couldn't be late on her first day! Just down the hall, Saiki is still in bed, his weary purple eyes stare up at the ceiling. Thanks to (y/n), he also wasn't able to sleep a wink. Her scattered thoughts kept him from resting soundly. Despite his slight irritation, he didn't blame her. He was also worried about today for his own reasons.
The pair of teens eventually make their way down stairs where breakfast is waiting for them. Kuniharu is already at the table. He quickly shovels food in his mouth while muttering about how he can't be late again. His wife, Kurumi, places another dish on the table before helping him with his tie.
"Good morning you two!" The woman greets. "Oh, (y/n)-chan! You look so cute in your uniform!"
"Thank you, Kurumi-san," the girl says shyly.
As soon as she and Kusuo sit down, Kuniharu springs up, rushing to the door. "Have a good day at school you guys, I've gotta run!"
"Why are you in such a rush?" Saiki asks.
"Kusuo you know how important your father's work is! The office needs me!" Kuniharu claims as he puts on his shoes.
'I guess he's right about that. No one else can lick boots like he does.'
Kurumi gives her husband a quick kiss goodbye before he dashes out the door. She then joins (y/n) and Kusuo for breakfast. "You kids look exhausted! Make sure to eat lots, okay? Today's a big day for you (y/n)! Are you excited?"
"Honestly, I'm more nervous than excited," (y/n) admits.
"That's just first day jitters! I'm sure you'll have a great time. It might not seem like it but my Ku-chan is pretty popular. He's got tons of friends at school! I'm sure he can introduce you!"
'Kusuo has friends?'
'They're not my friends.'
After breakfast, Saiki is eager to leave. If he left early enough he wouldn't have to worry about running into Nendo or Kaido. He didn't want them knowing (y/n) was living with him. Unfortunately, his mom made a big fuss about sending the girl off on her first day.
Kurumi drags the teens outside to take pictures. She aims her digital camera at (Y/n) and Kusuo as they stand side by side in front of the house. "Ok! Big smiles! 3, 2, 1, cheese!" The camera flashes non-stop as she takes one photo after another.
Saiki stares at the lens with his usual neutral expression. 'This is ridiculous. We're going to school not the military.' He looks over at (y/n) to see if she's feeling just as miserable. To his shock the girl is beaming. She smiles widely, chuckling and going along with his mother's every command.
'This feels a bit silly, but it's kinda fun!'
"Ok, get closer you too! Do something cute!" Kurumi shouts. She leans forward, camera glued to her face.
(Y/n) shuffles closer to Saiki from behind. She holds both her pointer fingers up to his head giving the boy demon horns. Her head tilts to the side giving the camera another big smile. Saiki's expression cracks. He's bewildered by her sudden closeness.
*flash*
The camera captures the moment. Kurumi reviews the photo and gushes immediately. "How adorable! I can never get Kusuo to show any emotion for our family photos, but he actually looks surprised here! Good job (y/n)!"
Saiki sighs at his mother's theatrics. The day had just started and he was already tired. "We have to get going now, mom," he says.
"Oh! Of course! Just one more! All together now!" The woman runs over to the pair and flips the camera around. She puts her arm around Kusuo while (y/n) holds up the peace sign. She snaps a few selfies and finally releases them. Once the kids are out of sight she enters the house and looks over each picture fondly. Kurumi tears up slightly. "How sweet, (y/n) makes me wish I had a daughter."
■■■■■■■■■■
Saiki keeps his head on a swivel as he guides (y/n) to school. He feels a little better now that he's left home. If he ran into someone from school now, he could just say he was helping (y/n) find her way.
'It'll be fine. Still, I should avoid running into anyone I know just to be on the safe si-'
"Buddy!" Comes a distant shout. (Y/n) stops to locate the voice while Kusuo is overwhelmed with a sense of dread. "Saiki! Wait up, buddy!"
(Y/n) can see someone running towards them from far away. She squints, trying to get a better look when Kusuo suddenly grabs her wrist and starts running.
"Huh?! Wait! What's going on?!" (Y/n) says, stumbling behind the pink-haired boy.
"Just run," he says, not bothering to explain.
"Do you know that guy?!"
"No."
The strange boy behind them shouts out again. He runs faster now, trying to catch up. "Saiki, buddy! Wait up!"
"He clearly knows you!" She says.
'Of course Nendo would show up now of all times!'
Saiki pulls (y/n) along but she struggles to keep up. The boy loses his grip on her when her foot catches on a patch of cracked pavement. Before Saiki can turn around to catch (y/n), she clashes into someone as they turn a corner. The girl sees a flash of blue as her body collides with another. The stranger breaks her fall as they both hit the ground.
"AAH!" A voice shouts in fear before turning to pain.
"Shun!" Someone else cries.
Kaido struggles to catch his breath as his back flares with pain. His eyes open slowly before widening in shock. A girl rests on top of him, their faces just a few inches apart. He immediately goes red. 'Who is she? An angel?'
The boy watches in a daze as (y/n) quickly scrambles off him. "I'm so sorry! Are you okay?!" She says.
"...Huh?" Kaido replies slowly.
"Shun! You alright? That was one hell of a fall." Kuboyasu calls before giving him a hand.
"Oh, y-yeah I'm ok..."
Saiki sighs in defeat. 'So much for avoiding anyone I know. I guess it was inevitable.'
"Are you hurt?" He says while helping (y/n) up.
"No, I'm ok. This guy broke my fall." She says looking at Kaido. "I'm sorry about that, I really didn't mean to run into you."
The blue-haired teen crosses his arm suddenly. He boasts a strong stance. "Don't worry. A fall like that is nothing for a guy like me!"
"Hm? What are you doing here Saiki? You know this girl?" Kuboyasu asks.
That's when Nendo finally catches up. He's panting harshly from all the running. "Why... didn't you... wait for me... buddy? Oh. Who's this?" He says looking at (y/n).
The girl clutches her shoulder bag nervously. She glances between the three unwavering pairs of eyes on her. "Um, you know these guys, Kusuo?"
'KUSUO?!' They think simultaneously.
'Good grief. I figured something like this would happen.'
"How long have you had a girlfriend Saiki?" Nendo says, confident he'd figured out what was going on. "There's no need to hide her from us. We're all friends here!"
'G-girlfriend?!'
'Girlfriend?'
The tall boy walks forward. "Hey there, the name's Nendo Riki. Nice to meet you." The other two soon join in.
"I'm Kuboyasu Aren, a friend of Saiki's." The bespectacled boy says with a bow.
"My peers refer to me as Kaido Shun, but that is merely an alias! My true name is the Jet-Black Wings!" He says so dramatically background music is almost heard.
"...what?" (Y/n) says with a slight head tilt.
"Ignore him," Saiki says.
"Um ok, well I'm-"
"I already know who you are!" Kaido interrupts with a bandaged hand held up to his face. "Our collision earlier was no coincidence. You are a fallen angel sent by the Knights of Judgement to aid me in my quest to defeat Dark Reunion!"
"..." Everyone falls silent.
(Y/n) looks at Kaido confused for a moment. Her face then lights up. "Oh, I get it! This is some kind of role-play, right?"
'Close enough.'
Nendo and Kuboyasu stiffle their chuckles as Kaido goes red again.
"I have to admit I'm not used to seeing such shameless displays. Open role-play like this isn't common in my country. Japan really is different!" (Y/n) informs happily.
'No. This is weird for us too.'
"But I'm all for trying new things," she continues, now speaking to Kaido directly. "I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do as a fallen angel, but I'll do what I can to help you beat the Dark Reunions!"
Shun looks at (y/n) like she's quite literally heaven sent. "Saiki! Your girlfriend is the best!"
"She's not my girlfriend," the psychic finally says.
"She's not?" Kuboyasu goes. "But she called you by your first name and everything."
"This is (l/n) (y/n). She's a foreign exchange student who'll be going to our school. (L/n) isn't from Japan so she's unfamiliar with our customs. That's why you heard her use my first name earlier," the boy lies.
"Ooooh," his friends say, finally understanding.
(Y/n) gives Saiki a confused glance. It's true that she wasn't from here but after all the work she'd done to learn Japanese, (y/n) was very familiar with their customs. She only called Saiki by his first name because his family said it was okay.
'We haven't known each other long. Maybe he's just not comfortable with it.'
'It's true we just met, but that's not it.'
The group of five continue their journey to school as a unit. Saiki lets them lead the way as he and (y/n) hang back. He takes this opportunity to talk to her. "Try not to use my given name outside the house. People will get the wrong idea about us."
"Sure, sorry about that," (y/n) apologizes.
"It's fine, I should've said something ahead of time," he says. "Also, I'd rather people not know we live together."
Saiki's final sentence surprises her a bit. "Oh... ok." 'Is he embarrassed to be seen with me or something? I thought Saiki was starting to warm up to me. Was I being too hopeful?'
Saiki flinches at her thoughts. He feels bad for making (y/n) doubt herself. For making her doubt him, but he also knows people would lose their minds if they found out.
"It's not for any weird reason," Kusuo attemps to explain. "The kids at school tend to jump to conclusions is all. I don't want them spreading any weird rumors."
"It's fine, Saiki. You don't have to explain."
'Who cares about some dumb rumors? Is he that repulsed at the idea of people thinking we're... together? I'm not that bad! ...Am I? No! I'm not! He's the one making things weird for no reason.'
Saiki feels a significant dip in (y/n)'s mood. He knew she was already feeling anxious about her first day and he wasn't helping. The guilt sits heavy in his chest but he doesn't know how to fix it.
'I'm just making things worse. Maybe meeting the others will cheer her up.'
■■■■■■■■■■
When (y/n) gets to school she's put in the same class as Saiki. Although this outcome is what she originally hoped for, she wonders if it was really for the best. She didn't want to cause Kusuo anymore trouble. Despite how (y/n) was feeling, she honestly didn't have any time to dwell on it. As soon as the class was released for break she got ambushed. Nearly the entire class huddled around her desk, everyone shooting rapid fire comments and questions her way.
"I'm Hairo Kineshi! And on behalf of PK Academy I'd like to officially welcome you to our school! As class president it's my job to make sure everyone feels comfortable in the classroom, so don't hesitate to come to me if you have any issues!"
'That's nice of him. He's pretty intense though.'
'That's his tame version.'
"Woah! I'm totally felling your spiritual energy, new girl! Let me read your fortune, yeah?" Says Mikoto. "Hm, let's see... You can be shy at times, but you've got a cool personality. You're a big reader and appreciate people who have a good sense of humor! Your chances for romance are... 60% and it looks like your future man is... in this room? Woah, didn't see that coming."
'That's pretty spot on. I wonder how accurate her predictions normally are though.'
'100% unfortunately.'
"Hi! (L/n)-chan, right? I'm Teruhashi Kokomi! I know how scary first days can be so don't be afraid to ask me for help. And if you don't have anyone to sit with at lunch, you can always eat with me!"
'Good to know, she seems nice enough.'
"Pardon me for taking up your precious break time, but I wanted to introduce myself. I normally don't bother getting to know new students as most people seem to find me bothersome, but this is the first time I've gotten a chance to speak with a foreigner for myself andcouldn'tpossiblyletthisrareopportunitypassmeby.i'msureyouunderstandasicanimagineyoucametojapanforsimilar-" says a boy who never actually got around to introducing himself.
'I try not to judge others, but I can see why people don't talk to him.'
'He's okay to judge.'
"Hey there beautiful, I couldn't help but notice your unique guardian spirit. If you want I can tell you all about it. It's rare and exotic like you. I'm Toritsuka Reita by the way, here for all your spirit medium needs," he informs with a wink.
(Y/n) just stares at him. "My... what needs?"
He ignores her question and continues his monologue. "We may not be in the same classroom but I'm only a call away. If you're having a hard time getting around, I'd be more than happy to give you a tour. Don't be a stranger~"
'I think I'd rather get lost.'
'That makes two of us.'
■■■■■■■■■■
The school bell rings releasing everyone for the day. (Y/n) sits back in her seat with a stretch and a huff. She never imagined her first day would be so... eventful. She's grateful for the warm welcomes she received regardless.
"Hey, (l/n)-san," Kuboyasu calls. "Me, Shun and a few others are going out for ramen. Care to join us?"
"Oh, uh..." (Y/n) wants to accept, but she stops herself after glancing at Saiki. "I'm okay, you guys go ahead."
'I'm sure Saiki will be going with them. I don't want to get in the way.'
"You sure?"
"Yeah, thank you for inviting me though. I appreciate it."
"No problem..." Kuboyasu says lowly. He watches (y/n) quickly gather her belongings and leave the room. He goes back to his friend group who immediately look for her.
"Um, where's my angel?" Questions Kaido. "She's needs to be in good shape if we're going to fight the forces of darkness together!"
'Worry about your own shape first.'
"She just left. Said she was okay," Aren explains.
"What? Whhyyyyy?" Kaido whines.
"Maybe she had to take a dump," Nendo adds.
'That's definitely not it.'
The bunch end up leaving soon after. They trail not too far behind (y/n), walking in the same direction.
"Maybe she was just being polite, you should invite her again." Kaido says to Kuboyasu.
The other boy shakes his head. "Give it a rest man, she already said no. We can invite (l/n)-san again tomorrow."
The blue-haired boy pouts in disappointment before giving up.
"You really like (l/n), huh Kaido?" Says Nendo.
Said boy blushes slightly. "W-well of course I do. (L/n) is super nice and... and she doesn't judge me like the other kids."
'She definitely thinks you're a little weird. She's just kind enough not to show it.'
"I have to agree," Kuboyasu replies. "(L/n) seems like a nice girl. What do you think Nendo?"
"Huh? Oh well uh... she hasn't called me dumb yet, so that's nice!"
'Give her a few more days.'
Saiki listens quietly as his friends go on to praise the school's newest student. It's no surprise to him that they like her. Even the stoic Kusuo had a fondness for (y/n) that he wouldn't admit. He watches her lone figure walk ahead of them, pausing when his group turns for the ramen shop.
Nendo turns around, noticing Saiki's distance. "You coming, buddy?"
"There's something I have to take care of. You guys go without me." Saiki says ignoring the huffs of sadness heard at his sudden departure.
The trio watch as their friend runs to catch up with (y/n). "What was that about?!" Kaido wonders.
"Maybe those two are closer than they led on," Kuboyasu thinks aloud.
"You think so?!"
Nendo stands behind the nosey pair, more concerned about filling his belly. "We're still getting ramen, right?"
■■■■■■■■■■
(Y/n) turns around at the approaching footsteps she hears behind her. Her brows furrow subtlety at the sight of Saiki. "What are you doing here? I thought you were hanging out with your friends."
Saiki slows his pace once he's beside her. "It's still your first day. I'll walk you home so you can learn the way."
"I'll be fine, I have my GPS. You didn't have to leave your friends... for me."
"Those idiots go out for ramen everyday, I'm not missing anything," he explains. "Besides, these neighborhoods can be hard to navigate. If you got lost my mom would be upset with me. It may not seem like it, but she can be terrifying."
(Y/n) chuckles at the thought of an angry Kurumi. What would that even look like? "Sooo, what you're really saying is that you're only helping me to save yourself."
Saiki's eyes widen. 'No, that's not it! How does she keep managing to twist my words?'
"I'm not that selfish. Do you think I wouldn't feel bad if something happened to you?"
'W-what does he mean?'
(Y/n)'s face goes warm. "No, that's uh- that's not what I meant. I'm just surprised is all. You don't really seem like the deeply caring type... no offense."
'I guess that's my own fault.'
"None taken."
■■■■■■■■■■
At school the next day, (y/n) is surrounded once again. Everyone wants to know more about her. What her own country is like and how it's different from theirs. The people, food, customs, fashion trends and more. And then the question of where she lives comes up.
"Where are you staying, (l/n)-chan? Do you have relatives here?"
The girl is flustered. She tries to come up with something quick. "Oh! Um, well-"
"(L/n)'s living with me. My family is hosting her," Saiki casually answers from his desk. His eyes don't stray from the book in his hands as everyone looks at him.
"WHAT?!" The class shouts.
The smallest smirk creeps on his lips. Saiki hated attention more than anyone, but for the sake of his new friend, he would endure the spotlight... just for today though. ⸌̊(⎚⁔̶⎚)⸍ ̊

AN: Ok! Here's the long awaited part 2! (Here's part 1!) I had started and finished watching Saiki K Reawakened before writing this (to help with keeping everyone in character) and it made me realize how much I love Kaido! He's literally so silly and I love his voice! The Japanese VA really does him justice.
I honestly wish we got more episodes but all things must eventually come to an end, I guess. I want to write some hc's for Kaido but I can't say when as I have a bunch of other pieces that need attention. Just know the idea is on the back burner!
As always, thank you for reading! ♡
