How do you tell a student "your essay lacked any sort of deep understanding and thought, and the grammar and sentence structure were atrocious enough that I now have a migraine" without being mean? Asking for a friend....

When I contact a parent and they ghost me

It is not my duty as a supervisor to be responding to my students 24/7. 

It’s ok to have time off and let them wait until I have time to work and help them with their issues.

I am probably too friendly so they see me more as their peer than supervisor. I have to set the boundaries. I do not have to be available all the time including weekends and evenings.

Today’s webinar about supervising students was very helpful... I have a lot to think about.

Last year my former english teacher was teaching my class adverbs. One of my classmates asked if you could say "calmly".

She said "No, calmly doesn't exist".

My head shot up and "YES IT DOES!" came out of my mouth before I could think.

She then tried arguing with me, stating that it didn't, so I simply told her to type "Dumbledore said" into the Google search bar.

AND WHAT DO YOU KNOW!?

She got all defensive, saying it isn't used often.

BITCH! I don't use the word sphygmomanometer everyday, but that doesn't mean it doESN'T EXIST!!???

organized my grading pile so i could get all the big assignments graded over break... then promptly forgot to put them in my bag and took off for therapy after work. on the bright side, that means less work to do over break. i’ll just be super stressed and mad at myself next week...

Honestly, I don’t think students should be allowed to evaluate me as an instructor if they’ve missed over 60% of class.
