The Aeneid by Virgil

Today, it's been exactly 5 years since I first read #TheAeneid by #Virgil, which used to be my favourite book and still is one of my top 3 favourite books. This epic poem, the national #epic of #AncientRome, is about the Trojan hero #Aeneas, who flees the falling Troy. This escape disturbs some Roman gods but Aeneas is destined for something great... I really love the parts with the fall of Troy, Queen #Dido's tragedy, and the visit to the land of the dead. Inspired by Homer, glorifying the Roman Empire, Virgil's majestic, eloquent poetic style and imagination have enormously influenced European literature, most importantly Dante. ~ Bir zamanlar en sevdiğim kitap ve halen en sevdiğim 3 kitaptan biri olan #Vergilius'tan #Aeneis'i ilk okuyuşumun üzerinden bugün tam 5 yıl geçti. Antik Roma'nın milli destanı olan bu epik şiir, düşmekte olan Truvadan kaçan Truvalı kahraman Aeneas'la ilgili. Bu kaçış bazı Romalı tanrıları rahatsız eder, ama Aeneas'ın kaderinde harika bir şey yazılıdır... Truvanın düşüşü, kraliçe Dido'nun trajedisi ve ölüler diyarına seyahat kısımlarını çok severim. Here's my top 10 favourite Ancient literary works, selected from my collection of Ancient literature, consisting almost entirely of Greek and Roman classics of the Antiquity, characterized mostly by epic poetry and tragedies, as well as comedies, satires, odes and pastoral poetry: 1. The Aeneid - Virgil 2. The Odyssey - Homer 3. The Iliad - Homer 4. The Oresteia trilogy (Agamemnon; The Libation Bearers; Eumenides) - Aeschylus 5. Metamorphoses - Ovid 6. Oedipus the King - Sophocles 7. Medea - Euripides 8. The Bacchae - Euripides 9. Phaedra - Seneca 10. Antigone - Sophocles ~ The only other Ancient literary work I have apart from my Greco-Roman books, is the Mesopotamian/Sumerian classic the Epic of Gilgamesh, which I am not a huge fan of but I totally respect as it is considered the oldest known surviving piece of literature.
