Ooh talk to me about Aragorn's Maeglin parallels

Ok first of all if you're interested in third age heroes with maeglin parallels PLEASE read this farawyn fic i wrote where they get possessed by the parallels

But aragorn is TEXTBOOK maeglin in a lot of ways! His mom is a ranger, she brings him to the hidden valley realm of his uncle, who becomes his guardian, and then falls in love with said uncle's daughter (your interpretation of maeglin's crush may vary, personally i think it was a foolish teenage crush kind of thing)

Bilbo is also a parallel, i have a fic kinda about that that's not revealed yet because it's for innumerable stars, but he's also got an adventurous mom who made a notable hidden valley trip, and he sure did do treason against a king of a mountain city after sneaking out and NEARLY got tossed from the battlements for it. Personally i think he should've been tossed, nonlethally obvs but it'd build character

Éowyn has her huge thing about being trapped, which fits great with maeglin "never allowed to leave a place he's in" lómion, then refuses to stay behind and rule her people, deciding to follow her uncle the king into battle instead. Also they've both got gender vibes. Aragorn is her idril actually, unrequited love for him because she loves what he represents

Anyway I'm a HUGE fan of the parallels lol :) i love how, despite how insistent jirt is that he's evil, basically all of maeglin's really specific story beats are hit by heroes

(Also there's the tinúviel lómion tindómiel undómiel thing but that one is more focused on human-elf relationships and proving maeglin is bisexual)

Just found a huge fanfic series I want to start on ao3(Aurë entuluva by ScribeofArda aka theheirofashandfire) that I soooo desperately want to start but it is 1:45 am and while i do have the week off for regents testing…. I do like sleep despite what my nonexistent sleep schedule shows and I’d like to wake up before noon tmrw, so I won’t start the seventeen part series, but I just am posting to remind myself to start, otherwise it will stay in y bookmarks forever cuz I got distracted

Hi, so I'm writing a russingon fic and publishing it on ao3, the first silm fic I've written though I've been around the block in other fandoms for a while- so far everyone has been mostly very welcoming and lovely! But I have one commenter who has taken to lecturing me on the 'correct' canon (it's mostly hilarious, their logic is very flawed, so I'm not too bothered but still). I have vague memories of seeing a repeat commenter being rude on multiple different fics discussed amongst some silm blogs a while back, do you remember anything of this? I just want to know if it's worth moderating comments or straight up deleting any more rather than engaging with this person, and if I can find out if they're the same person that would be helpful. Thanks!

hi! first, the fic you're writing looks super interesting and i definitely have to read it sometime!! it looks like you're really good at dealing with complex characterization, which is an absolute JAM :D

unfortunately, i do think i know who you're talking about, and i'm really sorry that one of the nefarious names has found your fic and decided to pick issue with it. claudk is... for lack of a better word, a dick, and while i (fortunately) haven't personally ever interacted with them, other people's experience indicates that just deleting their comments (or moderating) is best. (ao3 needs that block button... -_- ) engaging just goes around in circles and creates frustration more than anything, and more importantly, this is YOUR fic and you can do whatever the hell you want with it, and no one should tell you otherwise. you're doing this for free because it's fun for you, so don't let someone else's clownery ruin your fun!

(i believe claudk is most infamous for their dickery on @absynthe--minded's russingon fics... so yeah, repeat offender...)

If you need poetry- The Forgotten Soldier by E.L. Mayo: (this is the best stanza) We have been students almost everywhere/ Since hunger taught us wit/ We know war to the bone/ But of a peace that follows after it/ We do not and have not ever known. Tennyson is good as well. I use songs as well for inspiration- have a listen to Devils and Dust by Springsteen, it's got loads of angst potential (as has most of Springsteen's works, my big AU is inspired by his songs somewhat). Hope that helps!

Thank you! The Forgotten Soldier reminds me of the Wilfred Owen poems I’ve been reading. I’ve never heard of Tennyson before so I’ll check it out :D Devils and Dust reminds me of the mythological ficlet thingy I’ve been thinking abt. For Inception I once wrote 3 little seperate ficlets all with the same general mythological idea behind them. (One of the characters was Death and the other the Devil.) I wonder if something like that would work with this fandom too... I’m always up for mythological headcanons ;) 

The Forgotten Soldier will help me with the longer fic I’m working on (it features Napoleon’s war times and honestly, it’s pretty heartbreaking if I do say so myself). I’ve not found the perfect one-shot inspiration yet, but one can hope. If I Love You- I am Terrified pretty much wrote itself in one day. *prays for that happening another time* 

I wish I could like take 2 days and finish all short wips and short fics in my notes man, that would be great.

I was looking for books to read over the summer once exams are over, and saw you post some edit about the Mistborn series- what are they like?? I'm a big ToG and ACOTAR/ACOMAF fan- do you think I would like the Mistborn series??

If you are into high fantasy then you would probably love it, it has:

A creative magic sistem (it’s complex but the author explains it so well) 

realistic and well rounded characters

also the author has an excellent treatment of his female characters, is so satisfying

It has romance (tho is not the main point of the story) and it’s developed so well and realistically

amazing plot twists you won’t see coming

the series consists in 7 books(6 of them are published) 

you have the first era (books 1-3) 

then the second era (books 4-7) wich is set a few centuries after the first one, with new characters.

 And Brandon Sanderson (the author) said he is planning a third era, set in the future!!!!!!! 

You might take a while to get into the first book but trust me it is worth it
