Hi everyone. I know that text posts aren't common from me, but I had a revelation. A horrible revelation, unfortunately.
For all my life, I've believed myself to be an artist. I still have several notebooks filled with doodles of my childhood imagination. When the time came to choose my profession, I wanted to do something with art, and that's how I found graphic design. Six years of my life I've dedicated to my goal of working as a Graphic Designer, believing I'd be the one to do it, to achieve this dream!
But life hasn't panned out that way. Before I graduated, I began searching for the start of my career, receiving nothing but rejection, and worse, silence. I even offered my skills for a few volunteer gigs, and I was told my art was underdeveloped, not up to parr.
Once I felt the pressure (you know the kind), I sought different opportunities. Where later, I had the thought, "A real artist would have double downed on their art. To do everything in their power to make their art, and therefore themselves, better."
For all my life, I've identified with being an artist, but now I feel I'm more of a glorified enthusiast than anything else. And because of that, I feel like a traitor. The ultimate betrayal. To my craft, to the artists I've studied and created alongside, to myself. A stab to my identity.
Who am I, if not an artist? Just a poser in love with the pretty results rather than the supposed thrill of the process? I've made art in the past, but does that really make me an artist?
I even have OCs whom I love and adore, but does that really matter if I can't do anything else?
I know I have an artist's spirit, but I've close to nothing to prove it. At least not to the world.
At the end of the day, I wanna know who I am, and I've seen my art as who I am. But do I have to sacrifice that part of my life to have a job? And worse, oughtn't I?
I don't know what I'm doing.
Thanks for letting me rant. Please keep on creating everyone✊️
