And the award for best scene-stealing minor character goes to this smartass from Faerie Tale Theatre's Cinderella
(Please ignore the bad captioning)
Image ID: The video clip is from Faerie Tale Theatre's Cinderella episode. The prince, played by Matthew Broderick, notices the Cinderella's slipper outside the palace entrance and says, "Hello!" in excitement before kneeling and picking it up. As he studies it, he glances at the gray haired royal messenger standing near the door, who assures him, "That's not mine." Not surprised, Matthew Broderick replies, "I know" and looks at the glass slipper again.
2 very slightly different versions because they are both funny. to me
love to @we-keep-odd-hours for peer reviewing this lmao
Trancers (Charles Band, 1984)
The premiere episode of Crusade aired on June 9, 1999. The spin-off took place directly after the events of the Babylon 5: Call to Arms TV movie. Captain Gideon (Gary Cole) assembled a crew and took command of the experimental spacecraft Excalibur in order to search deep space for a cure for the Drakh virus that would consume Earth in five years. NEAR DARK (1987)
I love when vampire movies use vampirism as a mediphor for something. Whether it be drug addicts, the very wealthy, or some other in between groups. While I do still enjoy films that let vamps be vamps for fun, something about using it to describe a specific group of people is just...chefs kiss. This film took the drug addiction approach and mixed it with Western genre to create what I like to call The Lost Boys dirtier cousin. It's certainly true that this film had none of the pre established actors nor the budget of The Lost Boys it can be said that this film has just as much heart and vision put into it. The vampires in this film aren't your typical all-powerful, super mysterious beings. Instead, they're a pack of mismatched souls becoming dysfunctional but very loving family just trying to survive the horrors of the world that they chose. while they still possess some of the fancy powers vampires typically are shown weilding they're closer to drug addicts desperate for their next fix than all mighty immortals. A lack of steady blood supply has them sweaty and sick as dogs, forced to their knees. This film definitely hoans in on the way less glamorous side of vampirism and how desperate and dirty it can be. This stark contrast to other films in the genre sets it apart and makes it one of my favorites. This film also calls into question ethics and morals of vampires. Homer, a vampire who was turned when he was still a boy long ago, often says that he is a big man in a little boys body. He seems to flip flop between the personas of a spoiled brat and a grown man who is ruthless. It makes the viewer wonder how old he is mentally and whether his mind continued to mature while his body stayed the same or if the more grown personality is something learned from mimicking the others. When he meets Sarah (Caleb's younger sister), he immediately turns on his childish charms and speaks with a lisp to manipulate her into believing that he is her age and is harmless. His clear manipulation of the situation is clearly the mark of someone older, but his lack of forethought in regards to not factoring in her guardians whereabouts allude more towards someone who isn't fully capable of advanced planning. But if he really is an adult trapped in a child's body, isn't it gross to develop a crush on someone so young? No matter how old Homer is mentally, his attachment to Sarah creates a problematic situation somewhat similar to Claudia from Intervew with the Vampire. It gives you something to think about and debate yourself on.
