ik you ship timkon (love your fics btw) but i saw you say somewhere that you think they would never be canon and you dont think canon would execute it properly. so what are your ships for them that you think would work better in canon or have a bigger chance of being canon?
look honestly my only thing with timkon is that people hype it up so much outside of comics that when i actually read the comics... in the 2000s yeah DEFINITELY timkon wouldve had a greater chance at being properly executed in canon and has THE MOST homoerotic tension between them. but every other era? not really. even current infinite frontier continuity. and thats because geoff johns, the teen titans 2003 writer, doesn't know how to write normal male friendships without adding an underlying layer of homoeroticism.
but kon and bart were always a lot closer than tim and kon until titans/young justice: graduation day, which honestly shifted the main friendship in the trio from kon and bart to tim and kon and kinda left bart on his own. so i like bartkon, and i think thats my biggest kon ship outside of timkon, because they were really obsessed with each other. For example, during the intergalactic war bart produces a scout and then has to watch and feel himself die and then goes into a coma. two entire issues of superboy 1994 are dedicated to the amount of guilt kon feels about barts death
Superboy 1994 #91 we see kon directly say that he killed one of his best friends, we also see just how traumatised he is from the whole experience. and then the next issue we have kon thinking about how he ruined everything and blaming himself as usual and also an alice in wonderland dream sequence.
in this dream sequence we do have kon saying tim is dressed in avian drag. which is. something else for the timkon stuff. but also we have him imagining bart in this bunny costume (the way he talks about the models being payed really well some people have connected to a playboy bunny costume. which is really normal to dream your dying best friend in a playboy bunny costume), and also bart with tana moon and cherub, two girls that he really liked that died because of him. and he states "It's that or some freudian thing that means I secretly think of impulse as a chick" which is also totally platonic thing.
Anyway i think kon AT LEAST had a tiny crush on bart during young justice that he didnt realise because he was programmed to be the straight guyTM by paul westfield. theres also a lot of cute moments between the two in young justice, whereas with tim and kon theyre usually arguing or throwing each other around. with bart and kon, its like they annoy each other lovingly. like the sushi thing in #22
I think they're cute. And also there's the whole thing in Young Justice 2019 where Bart was the one who remembered kon and ran through time illegally to bring Kon back into their continuity knowing the risk of ruining the timeline and travelled to gemworld to find him and then they hugged against the bisexual sunset.
Literally #3 of the series. So I see them working out more in current continuity than I see Tim and Kon because Bart literally broke the rules of time to get Kon back. Tim and Kon have had, what, the pride special where they had a panel of the holding hands while they talked about tims canonical boyfriend? idk i dont see much of the ride or die friendship that made me ship them in the 2000s.
for tim, i dont like bernard. i didnt like him in his first appearance in 2003, i only really liked him when he and laura were hanging out after her resurrection and he asked to be her evil sidekick. now he just feels boring. and i dont like how they tried to turn tims ex girlfriends into being cool with it so we should be cool with it. i dont like that apparently tim told ariana his identity after they broke up off panel because the reason that they had so many issues in their relationship was BECAUSE of his secret identity. like he was so exhausted from being robin that he fell asleep while she was trying to tell him that she went on a date with another guy (and would've told him how she was sa'd) not to mention that she thought he was cheating on her because he was so secretive. and he tells her off panel after they broke up? tim who kept a secret identity from everyone he knew for like three years with minimal issues? and i think the relationship doesnt have any substance. i want them to fight and be messy and have arguments about priorities or SOMETHING. also i want them to bring back laura because shes literally the missing person in their trio
so i dont ship tim and bernard. i think tim and ives couldve been something because ives was an actual character outside of being tims friend, unlike bernard, and he WAS tims best friend of all time. like he had his own struggles and was genuinely interesting to see and everytime tim would see him hed just yell out ives and start grinning from ear to ear like okay gayboy i know what you are . i think the fact that ives was his best friend for so long and went through everything with him is the thing that people try to make bernard into. i also like tim and danny temple because i have eyes and i read the brentwood arc. I also think bernard lacks The Moment that tim had with his school best friends (ives and danny) that made me think he wasnt straight in his 90s series. and thats attentively watching them get undressed in the locker room and looking longingly at their back muscles. there was no locker room undressing for tim and bernard. so im not sold on their relationship.
Robin 1993 #38 is okay understandable your friend has a big bruise your concerned. i get that. but #82? yeah okay just longingly gaze at the guy you just met so intensley that you miss your friends conversation. im pretty sure buzz thought tim was gay from this and every other interaction with tim and danny. running off together for spring break, finding reasons to hang out with danny half naked, yeah totally platonic.
And also Tim and Lonnie. because i love them. timlonnie 5ever. i like how they argue but also take care of each other and i liked when tim ran into a warehouse that was gonna explode to try to save lonnie and then how lonnie was his man in the chair during red robin 2009 and i like how lonnie is against capitalism and hanging out with green arrow to go ruin billionaires lives and his boyfriends the heir to the wayne fortune. idk you just have to read it to get it. they dont like each other but also they do but also they dont but lonnie was gonna be the next robin but he didnt. and also i think theyre so funny in robin annual 1. and i love his costume. and i like how he calls tim capitalist scum. i havent done a big read of lonnie but i love him and i think they have potential.
like obviously i also liked reading timsteph, timtam, timzo, i even like to explore tim and cassies weird ass depressive grief fueled relationship. i think bernard is the only tim love interest i outright have no interest in and dont like.
