Just a note for TPOC (Trans people of color!), just because "white culture (AKA racism)" is everywhere does not mean you have to follow it.

Feel free to choose names that connect you to your culture/heritage, feel free to transition in ways that connect to/relate to your race/ethnicity and don't let "white culture" define your transition.

This is not to say you cannot choose traditionally "white" names, or transition in ways that don't connect to your heritage: its to say don't let racism force you to do those things, do those things only if they feel right for you and for nothing else.

Do not let "white culture" (or white people!) define whether you're gender/non/conforming (especially since, depending on your culture, 'conforming' to gender may look very different than whites expect it to!), or whether your name/hairstyle/new clothes is cool and affirming.

You define your transition. You define who you are. No one else.

LET KIDS BE TRANS

That post going around is really depressing to read as someone working in childcare and education as a transfem (and I've been doing so for over a decade now). I don't doubt how scary and how much of a barrier there is for us getting into this field safely, it's fucking bad out there, but I also think that level of doom and gloom can put off a lot of trans women who dream of teaching, even if it will be hard.

Being a trans woman working in education is to hold a vital power that can and will change kids' lives. You will face stress, and fear, and even aggression, and I don't begrudge people to just say no, I can't handle that. But if it is something you care about enough, and you are in a position where you can have a measure of safety, it is so worth it, more than basically anything.

Kids will see you and ask questions. Those questions may be complicated, or uncomfortable, or uplifting, or any mix of that, but the end result is that those kids will walk away questioning what they've learned and what they've internalized at an early age when that is so much easier to turn curiosity into compassion. And that's just the probably cis kids - the kids who will see you and realize wait - this is a possibility for me, your existence resonating with theirs... There is a very real experience where you will see a kid even once or twice and your very presence and acting as a role model and being kind will permanently change the course of a kid's life for the better; it can be like giving kids the chance and knowledge so many of us wish we had growing up.

This obviously goes for any trans educator, not just trans women, and any questioning trans kid, not just trans women. The impact is immense; I've had first graders, mid elementary schoolers, even middle and high schoolers meet me and have their identities start to crystallize that week, and leave the camp on a firm path to realizing they're trans. It is incredibly fulfilling, and it's worth all the frustrating "are you a boy or a girl etc" questions.

Hello my younger sibling came out agender, they said that I can use any pronouns for them. Is it etiquette to ask do you like these pronouns if I start using them? Like I don’t want to cause any distress for them. I want to make sure they are happy.

Hi! Well, that's awesome.

You likely don't need to ask every time you use different pronouns but I'd recommend asking your sibling if they have any pronouns they prefer! Let them know that you don't want to use any that would upset them and you'd especially like to use ones that would make them happy!

From there, if they still say you really can use whatever, just let them know that if they ever change their mind to let you know. Then use all sorts of pronouns for them!

You might someday stumble upon pronouns your sibling doesn't like or they'll change to some specific pronouns but that's okay and part of the process. For now, just do your best and be clear that you're there for them.

Can you please not answer this if it doesn’t come through on anon. 🙏🏽 I don’t really want questions about this on my blog. (It isn’t a shifting blog.) So basically, I have gotten more into deep lore type scripting for one of my fantasy drs. And it’s really fun because I feel like I can really do anything with it. (I know you always can, but you know.) I like to keep most of my drs like soft sci-fi at most.

But I ended up doing one thing I’m unsure of, and I would like a trans person’s opinion on it.

So basically, I scripted a third sex. (Mostly based on stuff I came up with for a short story.)

Fantasy anatomy, cultural norms, all that.

The third sex isn’t as common, so it’s not like the population is divided into thirds. It’s more of a one in twenty thing. And my s/o is in that one of twenty.

They get kinda fetishized for it. And I didn’t script that out because I like the secondhand attention I end up getting. And idk if I’m fucked up for this.

(I’m a cis woman in both my cr and dr for context.)

i would like to add , though , that there are more than two sexes already . intersex , which is a large umbrella for ( i think ? ) hundreds of different sex variations , already exists in this reality and is as common as redheads . so , just informing you about that .

but i do think that it is weird as fuck that you wouldn’t script out the fetishization of that third sex , especially since you’re doing it to get “ extra attention “ and especially since you’re a ciswoman . intersex discrimination , fetishization , hatred , & more has a long , long history that is still ongoing , which is fucked up as shit . i’m assuming it would be something similar in your desired reality for that third sex , which is nooot fuckin’ cool in my book . if you want to add that specific third sex to your desired reality , just script out the fetishization/discrimination/social stigma that they face . you can still “ get attention “ just for them being a little less common without any of the negative , genuinely impactful , and discriminatory shit that they’ll likely have to face day-to-day .

lgbtqia+ people , including intersex people , are not some eye-candy to take around with you to grab attention , especially when that “ attention “ is quite literally fetishization , which is genuinely harmful as fucking shit and it’s a hop and skip ‘til that fetishization turns into that third sex’s genocide & other discrimination . get rid of the discriminatory shit , including the fetishization ( because it is discrimination and genuinely disgusting , they are not some sex-object for your curiosity collection ) , treat them like just any other regular human being ( because they are ) , and if you want “ extra attention “ because of it , just make it that sorta thing that people are like “ oh cool , you have a rarer sex than we do , that’s pretty cool ! “ , which still probably gets old for your significant other to hear all the damn time .

that’s my opinion about it , but i can’t stop you from doing anything . if you decide you’re cool with that and still wanna do it , even knowing those things , then fine , just don’t interact with me again if you do that , because that’s problematic as shit in my book .

my tone may come across upset during this or harsh , but that’s because i want you to realize how genuinely impactful and , honestly , very wrong that would be , and has been in this reality , too .

Hi I just wanted to say that I saw you say transfems don’t bleed like cis women do, and that’s actually not true!

First thing to note is that transfem as a label has nothing to do with one’s agab or anatomy at birth. It just means you’re non-binary trans in a feminine way.

Second, some transfems even if they were amab do have a uterus/ovaries and a hole to bleed from.
