This, my friends, is why I switched to Firefox and DuckDuckGo. This is not REMOTELY true, they're just two vaguely similar looking dudes.
This.
This fucking thing is never right. Like. AT ALL. Telling me to put fuckin' gasoline in my spaghetti ahh search engine. Stfu.
Plus, I was tired of looking at AI every time I opened the browser. Fuck AI.
Can we pretend things are ok and I’m not thinking every human being I’ve ever met hates me please?
I’M GONNA CRASHOUT I’M GONNA BURN AND BE ON FIRE AND BE A PRETTY STAR IN THE GROUND CAN PEOPLE BE NICE AND ACTUALLY BE NORMAL AND NOT A BITCH AND NOT ANNOYING AND NOT STUPID AND CAN EVERYTHING WORK???????????
KILL ME🙂
WHY THE FUCK!!! IS HE IN THERE!!!!!!! GET HIM OUT!!!!!!!
Heyo, y'all, I'd like to cover Generative AI, so if you would bear with me for a moment. I'm sorry for any mistakes, and non-formalities, as I'm not putting in the effort to format this like I usually would arguments, as Gen AI generally pisses me tf off, and by formatting it like I typically would, I'd be putting WAY TOO MUCH EFFORT INTO THIS TOPIC FOR A TUMBLR POST. Also, sorry in advance for the wall of text.
Please correct me if you notice any mistakes or anything I missed! Thankies, especially if you read to the end!
This post will be somewhat crude, in terms of language, as I'm VERY opinionated about the topic. So, like, cuss words incoming. Also, this post will cover AI-related topics, quickly mention adult content, and by the time I'm done writing it, I might be pouring steam out my ears, so crashout warning too.
As for Gen AI, fuck it, y'know, the works. HOWEVER, I WOULD like to talk about its potential uses for disabilities. I'M NOT DEFENDING AI IMAGE GENERATION, OR AI THAT STEALS OUR WORK WITHOUT OUR CONSENT AND NO COMPENSATION.
Note, this opinion and argument only applies to contractually bound and protected writers, artists and voice actors, WITH THEIR CONSENT.
NO GEN AI IMAGES, SAID IMAGES ARE NEVER NECESSARY, and I'm only covering where it could be used for summaries, captions and voices, should ALWAYS BE SELF-CONTAINED AND SELF-SOURCED, AND SHOULD NEVER, EVER, NEVER, SEEP INTO ANY FORMS OF ART (EG. MUSIC, DIGITAL/TRADITIONAL ART, PHOTOGRAPHY, ETC.) IT SHOULD ALSO NEVER DISRUPT JOBS THAT REQUIRE HUMAN CONNECTION IN *ANY* SORT OF WAY, OR ENTER ANY SORT OF WORKFORCE WHERE A LARGE POPULATION RELIES ON SAID WORK. IT'S MORALLY FUCKING AWFUL TO REPLACE YOUR CASHIER BOY WHO MIGHT BE UNABLE TO PAY HIS BILLS, AND YOU BET YOUR ASS I'LL BE THE FIRST TO ORDER 30 MILLION WATERS, BEFORE DRIVING OFF, AND FUCKING BOYCOTT YOUR ORGANIZATION.
Anyways, screaming over :3 (for now, I can nigh guarantee I'll be shouting later on, sorry)
Not all AI is evil, however, Generative AI almost always IS, BY NATURE, especially with the complete lack of restrictions we have right now. The AI used for detection of cancer is fantastic, however, I fucking DESPISE the models that, idk, @mommy-step-on-me-uwu (sorry if you're anti-ai and use that tag, lmao) or some shit are using to generate fake-ass hentai, INSTEAD OF COMMISSIONING AN ARTIST. There is absolutely NO shame on any "cringe" artists (smut, furry, etc.) or any who want to commission them, as long as they're not problematic (engaging in drawing CP, etc.). I understand where they're coming from. There's a lotta money to be made on that side of the internet. If drawing some furry boobies pays your bills, GET THAT BANK, GIRLIE, WHATEVER YOU HAVE TO DO IN THIS AWFUL WORLD TO FUCKING SURVIVE. NO SHAME ON COMMISSIONERS EITHER, IF YOU WANT ANY OF THIS ART, GO FOR IT. MY BLOG IS A SAFE PLACE WHERE WE SUPPORT FURRIES, ARTISTS, ALL SORTS OF MINORITIES THAT I DON'T HAVE THE TIME TO LIST OFF HERE, YADDA YADDA. IF IT'S CONSENTING ADULTS DOING CONSENTING ADULT THINGS, WHERE IS IT MY BUSINESS TO GET ALL NOSY, EVEN IF, I, PERSONALLY, AIN'T INTO IT.
"But Spike, if the adults generating AI images are all consenting, then why is it a problem?" The "consenting adult" argument, as a whole, doesn't hold water for AI itself, as those who the data is sourced from are largely NOT CONSENTING. The environment isn't consenting to the damage being done, either.
This argument I'm making for SOME, and I MEAN SOME (NOT THE MAJORITY), forms of Generative AI only works when the energy is clean and self-sourced. I'm not well-versed in how Generative AI works, especially where it sources the energy, because that ain't my job. We have experts, God bless their hearts, who are currently researching this stuff. I just know Gen AI does a Goddamned NUMBER on the environment, and that CANNOT be ignored. If we can somehow make it self-contained, be it little generation packs with solar panels or some shit, that'd be great, but as far as I know, this hasn't happened.
These potential uses I'm covering are exclusively NON-COMMERCIAL (unless specified) captioning, image summaries, and voices. The first two can be incredibly beneficial for those with auditory processing disorders, those who may be blind, deaf, etc.
Unless there's something I forgot about, there is LITERALLY NO REASON TO GENERATE IMAGES, ESPECIALLY USING SOFTWARE THAT DAMAGES THE ENVIRONMENT.
I'm going to talk about voices, here, as a seperate point. When I say Generative AI could be used here to help with disabilities, I mean using SPECIFIC training sets from consenting, aware, clearly contract-bound and WELL-PAID voice actors, not just everyone you wanna train off of because they didn't look at the fine print on page 475 where it says "We at ShittycorpSocialMedia can steal your shit whenever we feel like it, because we're using fucking HOURS of deceptive paperwork to hide this from the user."
Opting us into AI training without our consent should be illegal. That includes "consent" that is one sentence of fine print in the 60 page long Terms of Service or Privacy agreement. That shouldn't be considered functioning consent, as it's actively hidden in deceptive manners, which is legally frowned upon. If your site does use it by default, it NEEDS TO BE IN BOLD PRINT IN AN EASILY SEEN AND ACCESSIBLE PLACE.
As for sites with switches to turn AI training on and off (eg. Tumblr), it should be OFF by default.
As for morally sourced voices, potentially for use by those with disabilities, it has been done before, on all fronts except ethical energy. We have a HUGE energy problem, especially with the prominence of capitalism and new technologies. We are causing HUGE detriments to the very earth that supports us, and we can't just ignore this. AI isn't ethically sourced, at least right now, and it is one of the most environmentally detrimental innovations in recent memory, Hell, in HISTORY as a whole.
These types of voices have been done largely morally before (as I said, without ethical energy, at least right now T○T). See SAM, or the Software Automatic Mouth. Sure, it sounds pretty non-human, but it gets the point across, and does so pretty morally, which could be revolutionary to those who may be mute. This non-human nature is great, for the most part, as it lets us know that it ISN'T a human, especially when these soundbites are made public online.
For the sake of those who may be mute, and may want a more human voice, I don't see anything inherently BAD about hiring a voice actor to... uh... "synthesize" one, as long as you PROTECT your VA, which I'll discuss later. See Alexa, and the VA behind it, Nina Rolle. I'm not going to speak on her personal experience, as it seems as though she's on an NDA, so there's not much we can gather on her opinions or pay, and I'm not her, so I don't really have the right to talk on her behalf.
If you are going to "make" a voice, however, there should be some restrictions to protect both the voice actor and listeners. There should be a CLEAR, CONCISE, LEGALLY BINDING contract to protect the voice actor in particular. This should cover the need to DISCLOSE, LOUD AND CLEAR, THAT THIS IS AN AI, not the voice actor themselves, as well as limiting who can use the AI and where the AI can be used, so no joe-schmo can use the VA's voice for nefarious purposes simply because they and others weren't mentioned in the contract.
These AIs should never simply be out there on the internet, able for anyone to use, especially when others, like SAM, are, as having their voice behind just ANY message can be INCREDIBLY damaging for the voice actor.
Plus, it can damage job opportunities for voice actors, and practically steals money from the original voice actor if just any big corporation can use their voice for free.
These contracts, if long term, should also cover what should happen if the voice actor (or the user) should die. Most would agree that unless specified otherwise, the use of the voice in any new works should be HEAVILY frowned upon or restricted, as the voice actor is LITERALLY DEAD and CANNOT OBJECT to their voice being used in new instances. The only cases in which use of the voice shall continue is if the voice actor SPECIFICALLY CONSENTED TO IT, WITH THE AFOREMENTIONED RESTRICTIONS (see James Earl Jones, rest in peace. Regardless of your opinions on AI, or what you would do, he made his decision, and after all, it WAS up to him).
It should be at the complete discretion of the voice actor to decide what they want their voice used for.
THE VOICE ACTOR SHOULD BE PAID HANDSOMELY, EVEN WITH THESE RESTRICTIONS. It's like selling a part of yourself. Trust me, I've done some voice acting before (although usually non-professionally), and I'd NEVER FUCKING CONSIDER DOING AI UNLESS IT HAD A HEAVILY RESTRICTED CONTRACT WITH A SHIT TON OF PAY.
THE VOICE ACTOR SHOULD ALSO HAVE LEGAL GROUNDS TO SUE THE SHIT OUTTA ANYONE WHO INFRINGES ON THE CONTRACT OR DOES SOMETHING AWFUL WITH THEIR VOICE, LIKE HATE SPEECH OR SOME SHIT.
I know this is... uh... kinda irrelevant to the overall argument I'm making, but I'm only gonna make one of these awful rant posts today. MIKU IS NOT GENERATIVE FUCKING AI. I'M TIRED OF SEEING THIS GODDAMNED ARGUMENT COMING FROM AI BROS DEFENDING THEIR GOD-FORSAKEN SHITTY AI MODELS. MIKU IS CLOSER TO A SYNTHESIZER, OR A FUCKING PIANO BUT WITH HUMAN SOUNDS THAN SHE EVER WILL BE TO ONE OF THOSE FUCKING EVIL AI MODELS THEY COMPARE HER TO. STOP SLANDERING MY GIRLIE. THE HUMAN MAKERS ARE IN EVERYTHING FROM TWEAKING, TO LYRICS, TO MELODY, TO INSTRUMENTALS, AND EVERYTHING IN BETWEEN. SHE ISN'T A FUCKING AI. IF I HEAR ONE MORE "Well, if you're against Generative AI, you're against Miku" ARGUMENT, I'M GOING TO SHOVE IT SO FAR UP YOUR ASS THAT YOU CAN TASTE YOUR OWN, SO HALF-BAKED YOU COULD PROBABLY GET SALMONELLA, ARGUMENT, FOR A FUCKING WEEK.
ANYWAYS, overall, outside of this general argument, I believe no website should just be allowed to auto-opt us into AI training like they do now. You have to PHYSICALLY GO INTO THE SETTINGS to turn it off (reminder to go do that).
I also believe that if we have reasonable suspicion that our art, our voices, our music, our writing, our media and everything in between, has been used to train an AI, commercially or not, we should have legal grounds to sue the shit outta whoever did so.
AI's existence, in general, is damaging to the environment, but some use us to be their training data, WITHOUT OUR FUCKING CONSENT, to create their awful machines.
Generative AI should never be used to generate "its own" thoughts, because those sure as shit ain't "its own" thoughts, it's our thoughts repackaged in shitty wrapping.
Generative AI images, by default, NEVER have any reason to be created. Art is already accessible. Even those who may be paralyzed from the neck down have the ability to make art. Sure, it takes fucking forever to learn how to do art, but EVERY ARTIST DOES IT. If you can't be bothered to learn how to do your own art, either commission an artist, or just don't! Simple as that! AI isn't art!
It's like if you spent your whole life running, and now you're in the Olympics, when out of nowhere, some dude just HOPS on your shoulder before you start running. You can't get him off, and nobody's helping you.
Miraculously, you still manage to win. But that twat runs up and takes the medal for himself. You attempt to argue that it's your medal, you won first place, but the officials just shrug and say it was his work, and you shouldn't be so on-the-offensive about it.
All while they just take the medal for themselves, and go on with their lives.
And when you went to confront them about it, their response was that they were "just an AI runner, and there is no reason to get so rude." Or that "they're just as hard-working (creative) as anyone else" because they came up with the prompt in their mind to hop on and steal your work. Or they said that "it's just making running accessible" for those who may not wanna put the time into running, either in the Olympics, Paralympics, or in some other sports organization/competition.
Hell, in competitive sports, even steroids are banned, which is the closest case IRL we've got to what AI is doing to artists. But steroids for artists would probably be closer to bases and tracing, which are still frowned upon for commercial work, but as a whole, are not NEARLY as bad as AI, which damages our livelihoods, stealing our work. But instead of having legal grounds to sue, or getting protective legislation, we're getting told to "get over ourselves." All we can do right now is advocate, and try to keep ourselves protected.
To my creative friendos, of any kind, PLEASE CONTINUE to create art, also while protecting yourself and being vocal about your hatred for AI. We salute you.
