Telling women that being misandrist and hating men is a "waste of time" is mysoginistic and it poorly hides the fact that you either actually believe misandry is real or you value the opinions and feelings of men over women rightfully venting or talking about their experiences

Tw: Misogyny, brief mention of SA.

Light Yagami was a slightly misogynistic character; however, that is a flaw in the writer's portrayal of him. A lot of people bring up Light's first kill (a rapist) to refute the claim of him being a misogynist, but people don't realize that a lot of casual misogynists are anti-rapist, as most people tend to be. Think your average boomer, they harbor more traditional ideas of what it means to fit the female gender role; however, many of them are very against rape. So I think rather than being a fundamental part of who Light Yagami is, this view of women being more emotionally motivated creatures is a deficit of the writer and not himself, as Yagami's moral compass is established to be against violence in all forms, including violence perpetuated against women, and so making him misogynistic would make no sense to further his characterization.

However, I do appreciate the implications his more ‘traditional’ view of women has on the story. The Yagami family is nothing if not traditional: an arguably one-dimensional stay-at-home mother, a hard-working and dependable father figure, and two bright-eyed children who (to differing levels of success) pursue their education and contribute to society. Light Yagami is sheltered through and through; there's probably not a single curse word said in that household at any time. SO despite his genius allowing him to see the 'rot of the world', those sheltered beliefs still follow him and influence the way he sees women. His sister Sayu is emotional -> women are emotional. His mother is in less of a dominant role concerning family affairs -> he's more comfortable with seeing women as being in association with a man rather than being the frontrunner. I think rather than pure maliciousness, his view of women can be interpreted as a result of his schema of what a woman is, due to what he's seen. So while, as a narcissist, he looks down on everybody, he has a uniquely more traditional explanation for why women specifically are easily swayed by his manipulation. It would be an interesting form of characterization if expanded on because it would greatly highlight his already established savior complex. Obviously, as he gets older, it becomes more ignorant if anything, but honestly, he is already written to be a hypocrite, even if that aspect of his hypocrisy is more coincidental because of Ohba's beliefs.

(Also, I'm not saying all traditional homes are mysoginistic cess pools nor am I trying to insinuate that Sayu and her mother are shallow characters. I just think the way they’re portrayed shows how Light perceives them to be one-dimensional and that that perception aligns with his thoughts on women.)

Now, allow me to explain. Olympian society is highly based on the Hellenic structure, and one of the most important contributions of a woman was to give healthy babies. So it's practically drilled into Y/n's head that yes, she has to have children with her husband, and no, she does not have a word in the matter.

In my small little world, yes, a primarch can have children, but it is a rarity and mostly driven by the women (something something a kind of blood lineage that does not apply for every wife, something something).

Perturabo's greatest wish is to have the happiness and the warmth of something that he could be proud of; that means a family of his own, his own little heir that loves him and respects him, that Y/n would love as well. So it can be said that, in his head, if he can have children with Y/n, she will eventually love him back.

The concept of divorce almost does not exist on Olympia, and the Iron Lord wishes for Y/N to NEVER learn. of that thing (the idea of her knowing that she could get away from him broke his heart).

He will try; he will try every time he can. Never forceful, never by hurting her; those children must be conceived with love. That is the line he can set. He desperately wants that family; sometimes it's scary how focused he is on this concept that he's built something perfect that no one can match with you.

He will consider insemination? Well, he fears that maybe something is amiss, so they need another way, something that may help her womb to better receive his seed. Yes, maybe he will start to design a machine that will help her to finally get pregnant. It is a small sacrifice he will take, but do not believe he would not go down on her. And, let's be honest, he still has urges.

Does Y/n agree to all of this? Not at all; she has been raised knowing that all of this is her destiny. It doesn't help the third legion with these warriors that care more for the perspective of an heir than the lady herself.

It's sad, and it's more sad because for every failed attempt the nursery Perturabo has built keeps on filling with toys he makes.

The fact this isn't even REALLY about their relationship but about the fact that y'all can't talk about Selina without slut shaming her is crazy.

No person that has read a comic will tell you their relationship is about lust, and just the mention of it is the pure confirmation that y'all never stopped seeing her as a sex worker and will never accept another representation of her in any way— it is vile, considering that she was forced into that life since she was a teen, being a victim of sexual trafficking, too.

This is also the very reason why many DC fans just can't accept or recall when Selina and her relationship with Bruce is being mischaracterized, for them she has always been like that because they are too embedded with the idea of her being a sexual maniac with a ""beastiality"" inside of her.

It's the constant push on the demonization of Selina, not seeing and referring to her as a human being who did what she could to survive an environment she was forced in, but as if she was just naturally codependent to sexual traits to survive and be with others, as if she was a succubus.

And that's why, for them, Selina will always be considered unworthy of the love and attention from their golden boy Bruce, because she's not "wifey material" enough for him— because even if victim of abuse, her body is too tainted to deserve love.

Unfortunately, they can't erase her relationship with Bruce, but what they can do is deny the impact she has had on his life and vice versa, making their relationship look like quick hook-ups— because the only acceptable way for her to establish a relationship is in a promiscuous way, as if people only could have a sexual value to her and she had nothing special to keep people attached other than sex. Especially, if we're about to talk to their puritan king Bruce Wayne.

No matter how many TIMES they have been proved the other way.

I think all this has been said over and over again for years till now, but this whole idea of Bruce feelings towards Selina being solely about lust comes from ignorance, mischaracterization and misogyny, reflecting on the whore-fication of a whole's character personality and traits— which is funny as fuck considering this is the same people who are always on a ride or die when they spot any mischaracterization or misogynistic trait against any other female character.

During her Billboard Music Awards woman of the year speech in 2016, Madonna commented that “there are no rules – if you’re a boy. If you’re a girl, you have to play the game.”  Most of the negative reviews that Something Beautiful received were along these lines. Pitchfork, for example, criticised Cyrus’s “nonsensical lyrics” (translation: stick to writing about relationships). The iPaper claimed her weird and experimental choices created a distance from her listeners (translation: don’t do anything your fans won’t like). They also condemned the lack of accessible, radio-friendly pop (translation: be one-dimensional). And the Guardian said that it fell short of the hits that made her a star (translation: as Beach Boy Mike Love allegedly said, “don’t fuck with the formula”). For two of Cyrus’s male contemporaries, Justin Bieber and Harry Styles (both around one year her junior), it’s a very different story. While the Guardian also notes the absence of “hits” on Bieber’s 2020 album Changes, instead of presenting it as a negative as it did with Cyrus, it’s seen as a sign of maturity on a fitfully lovely album by a pop star who no longer wants chart domination. In the case of Styles’ 2019 album Fine Line, artistic innovation was praised by the Guardian, which observed that the most endearing moments occur when he experiments. In an era where formulaic pop music dominates the charts and AI-generated content threatens to make things even more generic, we should be encouraging the idiosyncrasies of our female artists, not labelling them as having identity problems when they are brave enough to be different.
