This is me!!!- i have never been a teacher that gives many physical adjustments in group yoga class- instead I use verbal cues to lead the student to find their own way!! 👉Maybe because i have been given some overly aggressive adjustments in the past (borderline injury causing), 👉maybe because I dont love being touched during my own practice (it takes me out of my experience in the pose), 👉maybe because I need to have a very deep understanding of a students body before i put my hands on them & thats not always possible in a group class, 👉maybe because i dont feel like i can spend the necessary time working with that individual student in a group class without detracting from the group experience & i dont want to touch a student without putting my full attention in the adjustment. 👉and maybe its because i am easily distracted and can forget where i am in the sequence when i pull my attention away 🙎 its NOT because im uncomfortable touching people- i literally touch people ALL day as an OT & massage therapist! 💥I WILL use physical adjustments as appropriate in a private session where 100% of my attention is on that student & communication is open during the process! ------------ #repost from @enhancedbody ------------------ Repost: Why? Because I teach people to become cognizant, to observe, to notice what their body is communicating to them. And that’s different on any given day. . Yeah but what about helping a student get deeper in a pose? Nah, no thanks. That’s not my goal. . I could care less what a student looks like. I want them to be a able to respect how they feel and adjust accordingly, without me in the way of getting them ‘deeper’ or interrupting their experience. . There are multiple other reasons too. . What are your thoughts on touching in class, besides getting deeper in a shape? . #yoga #saturdaymood #touch #intuition #proprioception #interoception #feel #getoutoftheway #letstudentsbe #yogateachers #youdontalwayshavetotouch #useyourwords #beskillfulwithyourwords #advancedyogateacher #knowwhentoletgo #ownyourteaching #joblove #enhancedbody
