yummy :))
Why playing viola is great
Music sounds spooky
Secret allies with bassists
Really understanding viola jokes
You don’t have to be nervous in shows because you know that no one is listening
Easy music
Violas are bigger then violins so we can beat them to death quicker
No one steals our instruments
Much chiller
We always sit in the back so there’s much more shenanigans
Pre-Storytime: Orchestra Camp
Yes it is true, tomorrow I will be attending an orchestra camp and I will be playing on my own stand and with a mask on.
However.
I got my wisdom teeth out about 4 days ago and therefore have not practiced the music. You might be thinking “oh whatever bro it’s just camp no one practices anyways” and you would be correct. But there is a strong possibility that I will be playing not one but three solos. Because I am the only violist I know going, therefore I will be first chair.
The solos are from Aaron Copland’s Hoe Down, Shostakovich’s Jazz Suite Waltz, and Gershwin’s An American In Paris. AKA I will be dead.
Anybody else name their instruments things that technically aren't names? Like Big Boi or Princey
time for viola jokes
Violin: Do you want to talk about your emotions, cello?
Viola: I do
Violin: I know, viola
Viola: I’m sad
Violin: I know, viola
Unpopular opinion: the viola is not just a "filler instrument" with a technically boring part but a valuable and irreplaceable part of the orchestra with a complex role highlighting the parts of the other sections and hopping between harmonies and countermelodies in a complex part that requires counting and immense skill and cross-section awareness
