Sort of related to my last post about hEDS being far from the only cause of dysautonomia, I thought I’d make a list of things that are not hEDS that can cause/are heavily associated with dysautonomia!
1. Autoimmune conditions (sjögren’s, lupus, diabetes, etc)
2. Genes (in the case of inherited dysautonomias like FD)
3. Head and spinal cord injuries
4. Cancer, chemotherapy, and radiation
5. Viruses (especially COVID, but also things like HIV, AIDS, and influenza)
6. Environmental toxins (lead, arsenic, mercury)
7. Certain medications (especially antidepressants)
8. Childhood trauma/PTSD/CPTSD
9. Vitamin deficiencies
10. Alcoholism
11. Neurological disorders (multiple sclerosis, parkinson’s, etc)
12. Craniocervical instability
13. Mitochondrial diseases
14. Bacterial infections (like Lyme)
15. Hormones/puberty
16. Other forms of ehlers-danlos (like vEDS or cEDS)
17. Unknown causes (it’s very common to just not know what triggered it)
And many more!
Personally, mine is thought to be caused by a mix of hormonal problems (i.e. my body not adjusting to the influx of hormones during puberty), viral infections, and trauma. Believe me, I’ve been tested for everything under the sun, and having a Beighton score of 2 means I am definitely not hypermobile.
Everyone with dysautonomia is different, and all of us came to have it in different ways, please remember that
Hate when a mf calls me “differently abled” just call me the fucking slur at this point
++cz on me no vvs
do you do userboxes for physical disabilities too? if you do can you do a set for vasovagal syncope (or just general dysautonomias if you'd prefer) please?
Absolutely! I hope you like them. 🖤
