First fic for Dragon Age Kiss Week! Some Grey Warden love with Evka and Antoine! This is the first time I’ve written them and I had a lot of fun. I didn’t want to get too crazy with these fics so I tried to limit them to shorter word counts and I think I did a decent job. Thank you for reading!

The campfire crackled and popped, the silence of the Anderfels pressing in like the darkness did. Dust whipped into her eyes as Evka sat there, each breeze bringing the stench of the dead with it. She didn’t know how many darkspawn they’d slain earlier in the evening, but the smell lingered and it nearly made her sick the longer she sat there. With a sigh, she stood, the muscles in her legs protesting the movement. She’d sat in one position for too long, especially after such a brutal battle against the blight, and now she would pay for it.

The hour was late, the moons shining brightly on the landscape surrounding their little camp. The air had grown cold, the heat of the day disappearing as soon as the sun had set. Evka shivered, finding her casual clothing didn’t help much against the chill, and she wished she’d grabbed a blanket before settling down.

A rock skittered across the ground, breaking whatever peace there was to be had after such a bloody day, and Evka spun around, heart thudding hard in her chest. Her gaze settled on a man walking towards her through the silver moonlight, one whose presence meant safety and security. And love. As her heart returned to a normal thud, Evka sighed, body relaxing when a well aimed grin appeared on his face.

“I apologize. I did not mean to disturb you.” The sound of his boots on the rocks were more noticeable the closer he came, but Evka wondered how she hadn’t heard him leave the tent. Perhaps he was sneakier than he knew.

“I’d never say no to company.” Holding out a hand to him, she waited until he took her offer, his hand easily sliding into her grip, and she grinned up at him. “Especially if it’s yours.”

“You flatter me, bien-aimée.” He leaned over to press a soft kiss against her knuckles, and it took everything in her not to flush in response. Antoine had always been sweet, considerate, and it was part of the reason Evka had fallen for him. Among other things. He was also selfless, protective, and there were too many times where she wondered how she’d managed to get so lucky.

Antoine’s arms came around her, a safe cage from the scars left on her from the day, and she snuggled against his chest, her ear pressing against the place where his heart beat steadily. He’d always been more sensitive to the blight, and sometimes she worried about that, about where it would lead them, but in the quiet of the night, she could forgot about it all.

Antoine was safe. She was safe.

As wardens, they took each day as it came, the dangers of their work not lost on either on them. But even if it was for only a short time, she’d take whatever love he’d give her in brief pauses of their chaotic lives.

The soft touch of a kiss brushed the top of her head, Antoine lingering briefly, inhaling the scent of her hair. Which she doubted smelled great after traveling the last few days. But she didn’t speak in an effort to prolong the moment, only smiling against his chest, trying to hold on to what peace they had.

True peace wasn’t easy to come by, but with Antoine, Evka could pretend it was simple. And she’d hold onto that as much as she could, until the inevitable day came that took one of them.

“I can feel your smile.” Antoine’s voice was quiet even in the silence, as if he didn’t want to interrupt her rambling thoughts, but couldn’t help himself. “What are you thinking of?”

Evka shifted to gaze up into his eyes, a color that haunted her dreams when she slept and blessed her waking hours. A color she’d never tire of. “I’m thinking about how I must smell, after everything.”

“Ah, but you smell like my favorite perfume.” He paused, a goofy smile curling his lips and she waited, knowing what was coming next. Because he was adorable and she loved every inch of him. “Eau de Evka.”

Wrinkling her nose was almost instinctive. “That sounds unpleasant.”

Antoine laughed, slinging an arm around her shoulders before steering her towards the center of camp. Towards the warmth of the campfire. She hadn’t even realized she’d started shivering again. “That’s where you’re wrong. There is nothing better than the scent of the person one loves.”

On another evening, she might’ve questioned the validity of such a claim, but she was tired and the pressure of Antoine’s arm against her body was comforting. So she leaned into him slightly, listening to him shower her in praise, any fears that’d crept into her mind disappearing as they settled around the fire, her husband proving once again why she’d chosen him.

I actually drew this months ago and then life got crazy and busy, but then I came across it a couple of weeks ago and finally coloured it in. I got inspired by the scene when all the Brona's Bloom showed up in Lavendel and when Antoine told Evka, "They are beautiful. Much like you." He is so sweet to her. A former Orzammar dwarf and an former Orlesian elf servant who became Grey Wardens? I love it! I love them! They deserve each other so much, especially how Evka had saved Antoine from dying of poison (which was how they met) and with all the adventures they experienced together. And the way that Antoine looks at Evka with such admiration and love...aaaahhh! Ha ha! And one must not forget how smart they are, too.

This was drawn with Sakura Pigma Micron sepia pens, then coloured in with a mix of Copic Markers & Ohuhu Markers. White highlights were done with a gel pen.
