Weightlifting is a fucking mental game and anyone who tells you differently is lying.

I’ve missed this lift (55kg/122lbs) probably a dozen times in the last week and a half. As someone that doesn’t really miss submaximal lifts, this is uncommon. I chalked some of it up to exhaustion. But the swell of anxiety in my chest when I loaded the plates on the bar also said most of it was in my head.

I missed this 3 times this morning. I was fresh. Everything felt good. And I was pissed. I had the strength to make the lift. My technique wasn’t falling apart like it occasionally does.

Attempt #4, I stomped up to the bar like a powerlifter going for a deadlift record, and said “fuck this, I’m making this.”
