Tepid Lake Huron
Not that we’re considering taking a dip or anything, but when we return to Lake Huron Tuesday it will be warmer than it’s ever been …
In late November, that is.
As of last week the average surface water temperature on the lake was 51.5 degrees - nearly a full degree warmer than the previous record, set in 2016. That's a significant jump by scientific standards.
Scientist say all that warm water is bound to affect Michigan’s weather this winter. Exactly how seems to be dependent on other factors. Wind direction, for example.
It could mean more rain, or it could mean more lake-effect snow.
Enthralling Mists - a deadly weather condition for lands blighted with darkness!

Enthralling Mists
Biome: anywhere cold and dark, the Lower Planes Frequency: legendary (usually only manifests in one or two places at a time per world)
Challenge Rating: 5+
The enthralling mists are a deadly magical phenomenon that manifests in places touched by dark forces. The mists move with an unguided malevolence, corrupting anything it touches.
When you roll a check for weather in an area blighted by enthralling mists, 1d4 clouds of mist appear 10% of the time. When more than two clouds appear at once, at least one cloud will move against the wind. A cloud has a radius of 2d100 feet (rounded to the nearest 5 feet) and moves at 30 feet per round in the direction of the wind. In strong winds, it moves at 50 feet per round. After a cloud has moved 200 feet, it disappears.
When a creature that is not a construct or undead enters the mist for the first time on its turn or starts its turn there it must make a DC 14 Constitution saving throw. On a failed save, it takes 10 (2d10) poison damage and becomes infected by enthrallment if it not already infected. If the poison damage reduces the creature to 0 hit points, it dies.
An infected creature feels extreme discomfort in its body and takes on a blueish tinge everywhere but the eyes, which become bloodshot. The infection ends when the target avoids contact with the mists for at least a week or when subject to the remove curse spell (or similar magic). If the creature dies while infected, it returns to life as an undead thrall with 1 hit point and temporary hit points equal to 4 times its level (or challenge rating). The thrall also has the following traits added to its stat block:
Ability Score Adjustment. The thrall's Strength score becomes 18 unless it was already higher. Its Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma scores become 6 unless they were already lower.
Rabid. The creature replaces its Ideal with "I must kill and eat any living thing I find."
Undead Fortitude. If damage reduces the thrall to 0 hit points, it must make a Constitution saving throw with a DC of 5 + the damage taken, unless the damage is radiant or from a critical hit. On a success, the thrall drops to 1 hit point instead.
Undead Nature. The thrall does not need to sleep.
Infectious. When the thrall makes an unarmed attack with its bite, the target must make a Constitution saving throw as if against the enthralling mists.
On its own, enthralling mists usually only pose a threat to wild animals and ordinary humanoids. The real threat comes when a cloud of enthralling mist interrupts a battle already in progress. A single battle with some ordinary bandits can become two fights back-to-back with both the bandits and the thralls they become!
