my roommate only talks about racism and how harmful it is if people talk bad about white people. no explaining has gotten her to understand it’s not racism—or how insane it is to only understand ramifications of racism when it’s, in her words, “against white people. i don’t know what you want me to do about being white i was born like this! they’re being so mean☹️”

i hate how easy it's become. to be 'white-washed'. growing up in a place where your native language is not english, yet around the influence of everything white, it seems as though you're crossed between two cultures. why is it that it's normal for non-english speakers to use english as a primary language when it does not need to be that way? why is it that if someone is not fluent in english they are seen as uneducated? why is it that i, as an indian, feel more comfortable in sharing my thoughts and emotions and feelings in a language as shallow as english rather than my own native tongue?

in fact, the very thing i am doing right now must seem 'shameful', hypocritical. why is this so normalized? why is it so normal for us to grow up watching american cartoons, read books in english, communicate in english? why is it that when i try to speak a language that is to be called my own, i sputter and stumble, like it is an unknown terrain?

i don't know if im onto something. maybe i'm not, but i really hope i am.

Idc if this comes off as "harsh" but imma say what needs to be said. There's no fucking excuse for digital artist that white-wash/lighten brown and black characters. I'm tried of all the "it's just the lighting😿" and "it's not that deep☠️" because we know damn well it ain't the light and it is in fact "that deep".

Digital artist have access to millions of colors and resources to the point it should literally be impossible to white wash darker skinned characters!!!!!

Then on top of that we only have so many black/darker-skinned characters as is and for you to go out of your way to significantly lighten these characters shows your lack of common fucking sense.

In addition, I also wanna talk about the black acoss the spiderverse characters specifically bc thats the whole reason im making this post. STOP TAKING AWAY THE 4C HAIR TEXTURE THESE CHARACTERS HAVVE. I recently came across a drawing of hobie brown on Twitter with "wet hair" and tell me why tf the artist drew him with golden retriever straight hair💀. When he literally wears WICKSSS!!! Plus the artist gave a shit ass apology and said "if you dont like it scroll away".

IN CONCLUSION, if you can't draw darker skinned characters properly then don't draw them at all‼️‼️
