my dumb ass deleted all of the fucking cut scenes and gameplay art for SOME stupid reason (probably because he thought he wouldn't be picking up the game again), BUT. @firapolemos05 did find these two from her reblogs which is awesome bc this is one of my favs :)

➜ Actively Being Trapped Under the Rubble:

The whumpee survives the collapse... But they're pinned beneath broken beams, concrete, or wreckage, injured and unable to move.

➜ The "Can Anyone Here Me?" Trope:

They call out and scream for help until their voice goes hoarse, only to be met with silence being the only thing answering back.

➜ The Terrifying Silence Trope:

After the collapse, everything is eerily quiet, except for the settling debris and the whumpee's ragged breathing.

➜ The Pinned Limb:

That one arm or leg is Trappe underneath something impossibly heavy, and every attempt to free themselves only sends shooting pains through the area that's stuck.

➜ The Hidden Injury:

They whumpee feels fine, and they think that they're mostly okay, until they feel their clothe being drenched and then look down just to see theor own blood pooling beneath themselves.

➜ Racing Against Time:

Rescuers know exactly where they are even with all of the wreckage, but here's the catch... It'll take hours to reach them.

➜ Dust-Choked:

The air is thick with dust. Every cough the whumpee let's out hurts, and breathing become increasingly difficult the longer the remain in the area they're in.

➜ Claustrophobic Panic:

The space around the is so tiny, with very little room to move around. Pregaphs even the ceiling feels too close, if it hasn't fallen already, and the whumpee is I'm a right with themselves not to panic.

➜ The Classic One Wrong Move Trope:

The debris holding the whumpee down is also holding up the structure as well, so if they struggle too much, everything could collapse further.

➜ Fading Communication:

A radio, phone, or even a magical communicater is their only connection to the outside world, but the battery is slowly dying...

➜ The Classic Stay Awake Trope:

The whumpee is injured and exhausted, but still conscious. Rescuers are able to speak to them, and they're begging the whumpee to stay conscious.

➜ Reach Through The Gap:

A caretaker or rescuer is finally able to reach their hand through a narrow opening. But they can't quite free the whumpee yet, but rather just hold their hand, and be there for support.

➜ The Brave One Breaks Trope:

When the normally really stoic or cocky whumpee finally admits they're scared, or they noticeably start spiraling.

➜ The Flashlight:

A single beam of light appears through the crack of a piece of debris, and that's when the vocal signal is let off

"I found them!"

➜ The caretaker refuses to leave:

Rescuers tell the caretaker to step back, but they contour to stay right beside the trapped whumpee for the entire rescue.

➜ The Rescue Goes Wrong:

The first attempt of trying to free the whumpee only further shifts the debris, causing the whumpee even more pain then what they were already in.

➜ Crushed But Conscious:

The whumpee is fully awake and aware throughout the whole ordeal, feeling every ache, tremor, and movement of debris that's near and on top of them.

➜ Immediate Comfort:

The very second that the whumpee ha been freed, they fall straight into someone's arms, whether that be their caretaker or a rescuer.

➜ Delayed Realization:

Everyone celebrates the rescue... Until the medics discover the fat that the whumpee's injuries are far worse than what they looked.

➜ The Classic "I Thought You Were Dead..." Trope:

The caretaker genuinely had believed that the whumpee didn't survive the collapse, making the reunion that much more emotional for the both of them.

For maximum angst, combine:

Pinned leg + can’t reach them yet + caretaker talking through a small gap + “stay awake for me” + hand-holding through the rubble.

That’s the kind of scene that leaves readers emotionally damaged for days (๑˃̵ᴗ˂̵)و✧

Does anyone else find that your circumstances influence the whump you're inclined to write?

Like. Brother has had to work every day this month, my other friend has been in and out of the hospital, and my SO (sapphic other) lives 2 hours away, so I am lonely af...

And I just realized that I tend to gravitate toward my grief whump wips when I'm starved for company, and I wondered if it might be connected. I've never thought about it before, but when I'm baseline I can work on whatever; when I really hurt I tend to work on pieces with my more stubborn, stoic, or just plain ornery whumpees; and when I'm cut off from people I love, I'm more inclined to write grief whump.

What about y'all? Does anyone else do this or am I just nuts?
