Preparing for a Distance Run
There are a couple habits I always make sure I do before I go on a distance run. When you are prepared you are less stressed to begin running and you will thank yourself during your run that you did prepare.
I know it seems rather obvious but actually remembering to drink water is a challenge! If you are going on a run in the morning make sure you drink plenty of water the day/night before. If you plan on running at night carry a water bottle around with you all day and try to refill it at least 4 times. It doesn't have to be a super cute fancy water bottle a cheap plastic one will work fine. Just make sure you carry one as a reminder to drink water! Hydration is key!!
Although this seems like a rather superficial step that would have no benefit it actually helps! How? If you are someone who runs on a schedule like me you can quickly get changed and go. There is no scrummaging around looking for socks, sports bra, headphones, etc..
Distance runs take just as much mentally as they do physically. Dreading a run, complaining, and a negative attitude toward it will make your run seem much harder than it should be. Likewise if you get excited, are positive, and believe in yourself will make the run feel like so rewarding rather than feeling like a punishment!
