Imagine having feelings for Jean, but they’re unrequited. (Part Two)
@tybg400 requested: “when Jean and Scott separate, she goes to the reader for comfort but gets jealous when she sees them in a relationship. She tries to tell the reader that Emma is using him which ends with them fighting for the reader. Later when the reader has mastered his abilities, he becomes possessed by the Phoenix force, Jean and emma put their differences aside and help get the reader back with the x-men. After they get him back, they both realize they both love him equally, so they both share him.(2/2)”
This is part two of two. It is kinda long so sorry about that.
Y/n got to see Emma again after their first meeting. It turned out she was looking for a teaching job as she had just joined the X-Men. Needing a new assistant, y/n offered her to help teach temporarily in his class until her own was set up. Emma instantly accepted.
In a few months both had grown closer together. Emma did eventually receive her own classroom, but when she and y/n had a break they would spend time together. Finally y/n asked Emma if she would like to start dating. She said yes.
Tonight y/n was in his classroom with Emma, both grading their students papers and chatting. A knock at the door drew y/n’s attention, and he answered it to find Jean Grey.
“Hey stranger! How’ve you been?” Noticing her puffy red eyes, y/n’s expression instantly became concerned. “Have you been crying?” Jean nodded and crossed her arms in front of her chest.
“Me and Scott, we broke up.”
“Jean, that’s awful! Here, come sit down. I have coffee.” Y/n let Jean in and starting clearing a seat for her. Emma look surprised at the newcomer.
“Hello, who’s this?” Y/n mentally hit himself on the head. In the time he had been dating Emma, he had never introduced her to Jean.
“Emma, this is Jean. She’s an old friend of mine. Jean, this is my girlfriend Emma.” Emma smiled and held out her hand.
“It’s nice to meet you Emma.” Jean shook her hand and smiled back. Internally, she was shocked. Y/n had never told her about a girlfriend!
“And you as well. Are you alright? Do you need a drink?” The voice startled Jean out of her thoughts.
“That would be nice, thanks.” Y/n checked the coffee pot and frowned a little.
“Here, I’ll go grab some coffee. Be back in a second!” With that, Emma and Jean were left alone in the classroom.
“So, how long have you and y/n been together?” Emma picked up a pen and started twirling it around her fingers.
“Not very long, only a few weeks. But he was the first person I met when I came here a couple of months ago.” Jean tried to hide her surprise. A couple of months? How had she not met this woman?
“Wow. How are you liking it here?” Emma stopped twirling the pen and started to mark off the paper in front of her.
“It’s nice here. Though I do admit the students are much more...zealous in their use of their abilities than at the last school I taught at.” Emma smiled and set her pen down, leaning towards Jean and resting her chin in her hand. “I do have to wonder, how do you know y/n? He said that you two were old friends.”
“Oh, nothing too interesting. I was his tutor for a while until he had control of his powers.”
“You must have been a good tutor. He has excellent control when it comes to his telekinesis.” Jean was about to speak when y/n came back in the room.
“Sorry it took so long, one student was trying to stick things in between dimensions. I’ll have to tell Logan he’ll need a new mug.” He laughed and busied himself with making coffee, and soon had three mugs for them all. Jean left soon after with a small twinge of jealousy at how at ease Emma and y/n were around each other.
A few weeks later, and Jean was jogging to catch up with y/n as he walked down the hall.
“Y/n!” At the sound of his voice, y/n turned and found Jean weaving her way through the crowd.
“Do you think we could talk? In private please?” Y/n’s eyebrows raised, but he didn’t deny Jean’s request.
“Um, yeah, let me just unlock the door here and...” Y/n opened his classroom door and ushered Jean inside, partially closing it behind him. He didn’t have another class anytime soon so they should be able to speak privately. “Alright. What did you need to talk with me about?”
“Y/n, I don’t think Emma cares about you.” Y/n took a step back in surprise, grabbing the edge of his desk.
“What?” Jean rubbed the back of her neck and continued to speak.
“I’ve seen her flirting with other men. I think she’s just using you to distract herself.” Shaking off his shock, y/n crossed his arms and shook his head.
“Jean, I know you mean well but you know that I can’t just take what you’re saying without proof.” Jean gave y/n an incredulous look.
“Do you really think you can catch her in the act? No offense y/n, but you tend to let down your mental guard around Emma.”
“I don’t think she’s cheating on me. I trust Emma.”
“Thank you darling.” The voice caused y/n and Jean to turn towards the doorway, where Emma was leaning against the frame.
“Emma! I didn’t hear you there.” Emma walked over and gave y/n a kiss on the cheek.
“I didn’t want to move after I heard my name. And I’m rather glad I didn’t.” She turned to Jean now. “How could you accuse me of cheating? You have no proof!” Jean scoffed and rolled her eyes.
“Please. I’ve seen how you hang off of the other men. You’re practically shoving them onto you.” Emma gasped and her lips curled into a snarl. Meanwhile y/n was trying to figure out what exactly was happening.
“Jean—” Emma cut him off and glared at Jean.
“How dare you? At least I don’t follow people around like a lost puppy because my boyfriend broke up with me!” Jean opened her mouth in surprise.
“Emma—” Once more he was interrupted before he could speak.
“Excuse me?!?!” Jean would have said more but she was stopped before she had a chance.
“ENOUGH!!!” Both women looked at y/n in surprise. “Both if you need to calm down. I don’t know exactly what’s going on with you two, but you need to figure it out.” Emma reaches for him.
“Y/n, wait—” He held up a hand to stop her.
“No. This is something you two need to figure out by yourselves. I’m going to go. I’ll talk to you later.” The two women were left alone in the classroom, and y/n took a walk outside. He wasn’t watching his surroundings and didn’t have time to react when the club connected to the back of his head with a loud CRACK.
Waking up with a groan, y/n rubbed his forehead to soothe the pounding in his head.
That is, he tried. The tug of metal on his wrists caused his eyes to shoot open. Y/n didn’t recognize his surroundings, a large circular room with what he assumed was some sort of altar in the middle. An altar he was chained down on.
“Great. Now I’m going to have my heart cut out or something. Can today get any worse?” A sinister chuckle came from the darkness.
“Oh, I’m afraid it can. Are the preparations made?” Several people in robes appeared from seemingly nowhere, each taking a place in a circle surrounding the altar. Two approached where y/n was chained and began double checking the restraints.
“Who are you people? Where am I?” The woman finished her inspection and nodded to her cohort.
“Everything is ready. Soon the Phoenix will be ours.” Y/n’s insides froze when he heard her. Why would they want Phoenix? Last time he heard it was far from Earth.
“Wait, you want to summon Phoenix? Are you insane?!?!” The cloaked male waved a hand towards y/n.
“Gag him and let’s begin.” The woman pulled a strip of cloth from her robe and stepped towards y/n.
“Get off of—mmph! Mpmhpm!” Y/n thrashed as the woman stepped away. He wasn’t able to force the gag out of his mouth.
“Amazing how even an omega level mutant can be restrained by some chains and a suppression collar.” The cloaked figure took his place in the circle with the others. They all raised their hands and began to chant, and y/n hoped that nothing would happen.
There was a bright flash of light and a wave of heat. Y/n screamed as he felt his mind being invaded by something else. He screamed until his voice gave out and his body went limp.
When his eyes opened, they were a bright blazing gold.
The mansion was in a state of emergency. Any and all X-men were being called to fight. Half of them were out dealing with an emergency with the Avengers (something about aliens off world?), so it was all hands on deck. Jean had just finished suiting up when she caught up to Hank.
“What’s going on?” Hank shook his head and headed to the Blackbird, the high-tech jet the X-men used to travel.
“Emergency. Something is terrorizing the city. People are dying.” Jean nodded and kept pace with the furry blue mutant.
“I’m going.” Hank stopped and blocked Jean from going any further.
“Jean, no.” Jean blinked in surprise, but kept trying to get past Hank.
“It’s...we think it’s Phoenix.” Jean froze. Phoenix? No, it couldn’t be. She had personally seen to it that it had been chased off.
“What? That’s impossible! It ran away into space!” Hank shrugged and started making his way down the hall again, in too much of a rush to hold off the telepath.
“Well it’s kinda hard to deny when there’s news footage of proof!”
“I’m going. You might need a telepath.” Emma stepped out from another hall and started to follow Hank and Jean down the hall.
“I’m going too.” Jean whirled around with a glare on her face.
“Hell no!” Emma frowned and crossed her arms in front of her.
“Ms. Grey, I understand we have our disagreements but we both can agree that the safety of people is something we must put aside our differences for.” Jean huffed, but she concluded what Emma said was true. Helping others came first, fighting each other could come later.
“Fine. But afterwards we’re going to talk.” Emma nodded.
“Deal.” The two women ran for the Blackbird, and soon they along with the rest of the X-men were flying off towards whatever was wreaking havoc on the city.
When they arrived, the X-men split up. Emma and Jean were the ones that discovered who was attacking people. But they didn’t want to believe their eyes.
Phoenix smiled as he looked out on the destruction he had caused. Not two hours ago he was screaming his head off, now he was tearing apart city blocks!
Of course, it wasn’t entirely him that was doing it. If the cosmic entity hadn’t decided he was a good host, he would have been killed. But he was compatible, and now there were several less mutant hate groups. Phoenix couldn’t stand those who fancied themselves better than others.
“Y/n?” Phoenix turned towards the sound of his—or rather, his hosts’—name. There was a blonde haired woman on the ground, hands raised as if she was going to fight him.
“What happened to you?” Oh, that was a voice Phoenix recognized. The red haired woman, Jean, had a horrified expression on her face. Good. That’s what she deserved for sending Phoenix back into space.
“What happened? I’m more myself than I’ve been in years!” The blonde—Emma, his mind supplied—took a step towards him.
“This isn’t you y/n, you’re killing people!” A frown crossed Phoenix’s face.
“And? It’s not like they don’t deserve it. They’ve killed plenty of mutants in their ‘crusade’ for humanity! They all deserve to die.” Jean shook her head.
“They’re scared and confused! They don’t know how to—” Phoenix cut her off before her spiel could get going.
“They don’t know? They have all of history to look back on! At what point was genocide ever a good thing?!?!”
“Y/n...you need to stop this. You’re being manipulated by—” Phoenix cackled and pretended to wipe a tear from his eye.
“Manipulated? Is that your excuse for everything you don’t like, Jean? Or are you so desperate to play host to me again? Or perhaps it’s just the body that you want? Jealousy is unbecoming, you know.” Jean grit her teeth and raised her hands, two cars beginning to float in the air.
“Let y/n go Phoenix. Before I make you regret using him.” Phoenix gave the redhead a wicked grin.
“Not a chance. He’s better than you ever were.” Emma spoke now, her eyes hard and unforgiving.
“Ms. Grey, I believe the time for talking is done. Shall we remove this parasite from y/n?” Jean nodded in agreement.
“Couldn’t have said it better myself.” Emma took on her diamond skin and threw herself at Phoenix while Jean distracted him by throwing whatever she could with her telepathy.
Phoenix dodged several objects, but he couldn’t avoid all of them, and once he recovered Emma was hitting him with all the force she had (which packed quite a punch with her diamond skin) while Jean was causing the ground around him to break apart. Phoenix was having trouble dealing with both women, and Emma found her opening. She removed the diamond skin and called out to her ally.
“Jean, now!” The two telepathic women unleashed a wave of psychic energy on Phoenix. Unable to withstand their combined power, Phoenix let out an inhuman screech before a flash of light blinded everyone.
The dust cleared, and y/n was unconscious on the ground. Emma and Jean ran to him, kneeling at his side.
“Y/n? Y/n, wake up dammit!” Emma slapped his cheek a few times with no response from y/n. It seemed like he was barely breathing.
“Please y/n, open your eyes.” Jean took his hand and tried to read his mind. She couldn’t get a read. A sharp gasp rose from y/n, and he raised a hand to his forehead.
“...Fuck, my head.” Y/n’s eyes opened, revealing his normal y/e/c eyes. Jean and Emma let out sighs of relief.
“Your okay!” Jean hugged y/n tightly and Emma smiled. Then smacked his arm.
“Don’t ever scare us like that again!” Y/n rubbed his arm and looked around in confusion.
“What happened here? Last thing I remember was some kind of cult, and...” Y/n’s eyes widened and he looked around quickly. “Phoenix! They said they wanted to bring it back to Earth. We—”
“We took care of it. Phoenix is gone now.”
“...Okaaay. Can you tell me how?”
“Later. You should probably see a doctor.”
“Right. Are you two...?” Emma and Jean shared a private telepathic conversation, and turned back to y/n.
“We’ve decided that since we both love you, it would make sense for us to both date you.” Y/n blinked in surprise.
“That was...not what I expected you two to decide when talking, but if you’re both sure, I’m glad you’re not fighting now.” Jean and Emma laughed, and helped y/n to his feet.
“Come on. Let’s go home.”
