I am so happy to share a new project with you! In the Fall of 2019 I was commissioned by Cricket Media to illustrate a short poem for the March 2020 issue of Ladybug Magazine. It was a fun project to work on because of my love for dryads, mother nature and of course springtime 🌱Naturally, I couldn't resist adding mushrooms, birds and even a happy little frog 🐸

So... I made a winter sapphic flag because I had a moodboard idea that I could use it for. I’d really like to hear y’all’s opinions on it! 

I tried to make the flag look more...muted? to make it look more winter-like. And I used a yellow crocus flower for the flower in the middle since the original sapphic flag has violets in the middle. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find a great picture to use for the flower.

I chose to use the yellow crocus flower for this flag after I read about it in the post about the Sappho lesbian flag and the meanings of its colors (x). According to the creator of that flag, there is a Sappho poem that mentions crocuses; since the term sapphic is based off Sappho, crocus flowers definitely fit this flag. And apparently, these flowers also can bloom in the snow, so they extra work for this flag since it’s a winter sapphic flag!

spring crocus

While outside earlier with my cat I saw this and was surprised to find a flower growing since we had so much snow two days ago. Using the picture this app I found out it was a Yellow Crocus. “Crocus flavus, known as yellow crocus or Dutch yellow crocus, is a species of flowering plant of the Crocus genus in the Iridaceae family. It is a small crocus, despite the names of some cultivars, compared to the Giant Dutch crocuses. Its cultivars are used as ornamental plants.” I don’t think I’ve seen one of these in my yard before. We’ve never planted them and this one I found by a woodpile we have. These pictures are taken hours apart today.🌼
