Steddie but Steve simply does not stereotype people. It's literally a built in feature, he takes everyone at face value and doesn't assume based on looks or backgrounds.

This leads to problems when he developes feelings for Eddie. Because Steve automatically just assumes Eddie is straight and that he has no shot ever. (Robin is trying to insist and make Steve see that Eddie is literally the gayest man to ever grace Hawkins. "Steve come on! He's got long hair and walks around wearing crops, you cannot be serious!" "I am Robin! He's a metalhead, of course he wears stuff like that!" Robin rolls her eyes. "Okay, but what about the hanky, Dingus! That's a clear indicator-" "Robbie, it isn't! I read up on things, that's another thing that's also a part of metal culture too! It might not be flagging! I don't want to embarass myself!" Steve pauses, rubbing the back of his neck. The father-in-law / son-in-law dynamic means more to Wayne and Steve than either of them know.

Uncle Wayne loves that he finally has someone in the house who he can talk sports with. He’s relieved that he doesn’t have to worry as much about Eddie when he’s got Steve with him.

Steve loves having a positive, loving father-figure in his life. He finally has a family that loves and sees him. Really sees him.

I just had a thought: Steve gets kicked out of home in his final year of high school by his parents, but is trying to hide it. Eddie is ranting to Wayne at home about how rich and entitled Steve is. And Wayne is like "Eds, you know I volunteer at the Hawkin's Food Bank?" "Yeah, so?" "So, Steve Harrington has been getting groceries from us every Thursday. Why would he queue up for an hour every week if he was still getting everything on a silver platter?"

Dustin Henderson says a lot of things.

Eddie can relate.

He too, says a lot of things, many untrue, many more weilded in defense-- if not of himself or others, than the principles that guide his doctrine.

Hawkins is a shitty small town, full of equally shitty, small minded people. It's easy to sell a lie.

Be a magician, and make them all look at one hand while you make the real magic happen with the other.

So he gets it, when Henderson swears his (former?) babysitter Steve Harrington is "a good dude we can call for help" when Van Helsing's engine gives out, stranding them.

He understands when Henderson doubles down when called out, storming his way to a payphone.

Eddie even applaudes the dedication to the bit when Henderson actually fakes the entire damn phone call.

At no point does he honestly believe The Hair himself will show up to rescue a mixed crew of Hellfire members because some nerdy kid called him.

Dustin Henderson, Eddie learns some odd 30 minutes later, watching Steve fucking Harrington flip a wrench lazily in the air, is the smugest freshman on the planet when hes proven right.

Eddie kind of wants to murder him a little, and he thinks he might once Harringtons biceps stop flexing like that.

Dustin takes up stand up comedy as a bit of stress relief while he gets his masters, but his whole act is about this obviously fictional guy, Steve, and the ridiculous situations that only he could find himself in.

Eddie is obsessed.

He first found a video of Dustin's set scrolling on Tiktok. He then proceeded to find every video that exists of him on stage and like, he's obsessed with this guy's OC.

'Steve' is clearly a D&D character so it's like, fine that Eddie is writing fanfiction about him, right?

Eddie gets a ticket to see Dustin and ends up sitting next to this really hot guy. He tells Hot Guy about Dustin, about his sets, about Steve, and okay. Maybe he's had a drink too many because he tells Hot Guy about his crush on Steve too.

"Why don't you ask him out then?"

"Because he doesn't exist," Eddie says like, duh. "You think someone as cool as - as Steve exists? He saved kids from a rabid Demogorgon in a junk yard. People like that don't exist."

"They might."

Eddie is going to deny him but the show starts and the first thing Dustin does is introduce the crowd to the man behind the inspiration and...

"You do exist."

"Yep," Hot Guy says. "Wanna act out some of those fanfictions later?"

Steve is convinced that he cannot under any circumstances meet Wayne Munson because, "He's obviously going to hate me and then you'll hate me too because like, he's the light of your life or whatever you said."

"Well, I didn't say that my uncle lights up my life," Eddie drawls because this is like, an ongoing conversation. "I don't even think Wayne is capable of hating someone."

"Trust me, Eddie. If there's anyone who can make him hate, it's me."

"Literally why would-" Eddie hears the front door open. "Do not escape out the wind- and he's already gone."

Eddie stares out the window Steve wedged himself through for a total of five second and then he runs. He rushes through the house, out the door, screaming, "He's here! He's here! Stop him!"

So anyways, Wayne finally meets Eddie's elusive boyfriend when his nephew tackles him in the front lawn.

First conversation happens when Wayne is bandaging up a cut on Steve's forehead and like, "...Head wounds bleed a lot. I’m like, fine."

"I know."

"...Will you tell Eddie so he stops hyperventilating."

Eddie who sleeps like he's been hit by a car. Sprawled across the mattress, limbs everywhere, face mashed into the pillow. Tossing and turning in the night. Steve can't understand how it can possibly be comfortable to sleep with your arms at that angle.

Steve who sleeps like a cat. Literally just curls into a ball and stays there.

Eddie who snores quietly, and Steve thinks it's so cute and it reminds him of a little puppy. Steve who sleeps so silently that sometimes Eddie wakes up in the middle of the night and has to put a hand to Steve's mouth to make sure he's still breathing.

Eddie who hogs the blanket. Steve who hogs the bed, because every time Eddie shifts even the slightest bit away, Steve is shifting to be right back pressed against him. They've woken up with Eddie basically dangling off the edge too many times to count. Sometimes in the night, Eddie will literally just roll Steve back over to his side. Sometimes, Eddie just gets out of bed and moves to the other now empty side. And of course they start the whole process over again.

Eddie had had dreams like this, being thrown up against the wall by Steve Harrington, his breath brushing over his skin.

However, this was usually the moment where Steve would hungrily take his lips with his own, not start yelling at him as soon as he was able to get out of his hospital bed from being in a month long coma.

"What the fuck, Munson?!" Steve's hands were curled into the fabric of his shirt.

"Um..."

"No! You need to explain to me what the fuck you were thinking!"

Eddie's fingers start to try and reach for the emergency nurses button.

"If only there was a way for me to know why you're angry with me,," Eddie announced loudly, trying to prevent himself from going into a full blown panic attack, because he could see and feel the anger coming from the man currently glaring at him.

Steve narrowed his eyes slightly, allowing Eddie to see that clearly he was also trying to calm himself down.

Eddie's heart nearly falls out his arse when he sees the unshed tears.

"Steve?"

"I told you not to be a fucking hero and you go running back into..." Steve pauses, lowering his voice a bit when he remembered that that were still in the hospital, "into the Upside Down and get yourself all torn up and bleeding and injured and then you almost die in front of Dustin!"

Oh.

Eddie swallowed thickly, looking down, finally seeing how bruised and torn up his hands were.

Double-Oh.

"I was trying to give you guys more time," Eddie muttered, struggling with everything within himself not to flinch when Steve angrily met his eyes again.

"You went back into danger..."

"Oh my god, Dustin is safe!" Eddie shouted, frustrated, "I saved the kid alright, they were trying to break into my trailer and go up through that gate to get to him, he's safe!"

Steve stared at him for a moment, a little bit of confusion over his face.

"I know he's safe!"

"Then why are you fucking angry at me?!"

Steve has wanted to strangle Eddie Munson on several occasions, hell, even multiple times in the past three minutes alone, but never has he wanted to strangle him as much as right that very moment.

"Why am I angry with you?" Steve has his hands on his hips now, looking alike a disappointed mother, a stance that Eddie had always taken the time to appreciate.

Eddie avoided eye contact, he felt safer not looking at such an angry Steve.

"Yeah, like...Dustin is safe, so get off my back,"

Steve has to bite his tongue to stop a horrible remark leaving him.

"He's not the only one I wanted safe you fucking dipshit!" Steve exclaimed, his hands going up in the air.

"Harrington, I am rather woozy from a little thing called a coma," Eddie sighed, "you wanna break it down a little more for me?" he winced a bit when he moved a little to sharply, his hand touching his side.

"You!" Steve snapped, "I was wanting you safe as well, you fucking..." he stopped his sentence, eyes now watching Eddie's three fingered hand hold the injuries hidden by the hospital gown.

"Back in bed," Steve ordered, taking a deep breath, "now," he almost felt the need to click his fingers to get Eddie moving when the other man stood there staring at him with those big chocolate brown eyes of his.

"Jesus Christ," Eddie muttered, huffing like an annoyed child as he climbed back on the bed, watching Steve as he held the blankets up for him.

There was a small silence that fell over the two men, Steve standing right by the bed, watching Eddie closely as Eddie eyed Steve cautiously.

"You were worried about me, Stevie?" Eddie now, also, wanted to strangle himself.

Steve huffed out a laugh, fingers rubbing at his temples.

"Unfortunately," he then pulled the hospital chair closer to Eddie's bed, "you could have died, Eddie," his hand was in his hair, distressed.

"You would've missed me?"

At this point, Munson, just accept that you'll be murdered by Steve Harrington.

Steve gently took a hold of Eddie's hand, eyeing the spaces where his ring and middle finger had once been.

"You kinda grew on me," Steve mumbled, reaching around behind him to pull the privacy curtains around the bed so he could comfort Eddie the way that he wanted without judgment.

Eddie's eyes became wide.

"I did?!" he asked with a startled expression, but he was leaning forwards like an excitable puppy.

"Yes, which just makes me even more angry with you," Steve tried to force his lips to stay in a firm line, but the corners refused to be tamed.

Eddie grinned, though still looking like death, his smile, no matter how big or small, always made him look radiant and playful.

"You kind of grew on me too, Harrington," Eddie replied, his brain stopping for a second to try and figure out how to hold Steve's hand with missing fingers, before he huffed and simply used his other hand to place his fingers where he wanted them.

"Good, because next time you do something dumb like that?" Steve caught his eyes, "I'm sending you back here myself, you got that?"

Eddie gulped.

Eddie invites Steve over to meet his family, which consists only of Wayne and one feral cat by the name of Stripes.

When Steve arrives, he sits down for dinner. Wayne didn’t make anything fancy, just some canned food he dumped out and heated up on the stove.

“Where’s Eddie?” Steve asks.

“Out looking for his pet. He’ll be along in a minute. Dig in.”

When Eddie returns a few minutes later, he sets down a furry striped animal, which waddles over to the cat bowl on the floor and starts to eat.

Steve watches the animal warily. “Uhh, Eddie? I thought you said Stripes was a cat?”

“He is?” Eddie looks at Steve like he’s lost his mind.

Steve looks back at the animal. It’s very clearly not a cat. Then he looks to Wayne.

Wayne says nothing. He just keeps eating his ravioli.

“Eddie, I think you need to get your eyes checked,” Steve says finally, “because that’s a raccoon.”

Something’s wrong with Eddie.

He’s been replaced or brainwashed or SOMETHING.

Jeff can’t put his finger on it, but something’s wrong with him.

He’s never the first one to arrive for band practice, let alone early. But here he was in the garage tuning his guitar.

Jeff is watching from across the room. He’s punctual. He’s been playing his music at a lower volume. He hasn’t killed anyone’s character out of spite in at least a month. And Mike actually deserved it last week.

Jeff even heard him make comments about the cubs/cardinals game to Wayne in passing.

And there’s something wrong with Eddie’s hair.

It’s not frizzy like it normally is. It looked … soft. Defined. Conditioned —

“You’re sleeping with Steve Harrington!” Jeff snapped, pointing accusingly to Eddie.

Eddie’s face dropped.

His eyes darted between their friends — when did the other guys get here?

For a moment Jeff felt bad blurting it out, catching the fear in Eddie’s eyes. But just like everything else Eddie has faced, he’s replaced the fear with confidence.

Eddie’s eyes narrowed angrily at Jeff. “So what if I am?”

Jeff shrugged, plucking at his strings. “Good for you, man. Just hit me, that’s all.”

That made Eddie physically stumble. Like he wasn’t expecting that. “What?”

“You’ve been different,” Jeff said. “Not in a bad way. Good actually. Just — made me realize it.”

The garage was silent. As if everyone was afraid to make a move.

“Is there — is there gonna be a problem?” Eddie asked, all bravo drained from his voice.

“Nope,” Jeff said. “Like that we’re not waiting on you. Bring him by sometime.”

Eddie stood still, still trying to process everything.

“How did — how did you know?”

Jeff pointed to his own curls. “Your hair. Looks nice. Figured Steve washed it, huh?”

Eddie blushed, pulling a strand over his face. There was a mumbled of a ‘yeah.’

Gareth scoffed. Eddie’s glare quickly went to him. Gareth threw his hands up defensively. “No, it’s just that if anyone can take that mane of yours, it’s Steve ‘the hair’ Harrington.”

Eddie let out a laugh. “Whatever. Just play, bozos.”

Yeah, something’s different about Eddie.

He’s happier than he’s been in years. And Steve Harrington is to thank for that.

Who’d’ve thought.

If I'm being truly honest, I'm in a shitty place rn. Writing is actually hurting me, like fun times. But I still want to... I'm hitting snags because if I just get focused on writing then I'm okay. But every time I pause to try and figure the semantics I end up giving up for the night because it's not worth writing a bunch only to delete later when it makes my hands worse....

I'm working on two fics on and off, the one I'm more focused on is stranger things with the main focus on Steve and Mike. With eventual Byler, Steddie, and Henderhop (of course Lumax as well, I'm not a monster they're just an always for me lol) but it's basically a huge time travel fic and I'm trying to figure it all out but I don't have a good like wall to plant it out like a conspiracy theorist rn... If anyone wants to help me brainstorm pls let me know. I'm like incapable of asking for help so I've been putting it off for a looooonnngggg time.

Eddie gets really into one sport but is in complete denial that (1) he likes the sport and (2) that it's a sport at all despite the fact that, "Pole Vaulting is an Olympic sport, Eddie."

"They do dressage at the Olympics too," He shoots back. "Is dressage a sport now too?"

Eddie will deny, deny, deny until the cows come home that he likes even one sport and then Billy Hargrove beats up Steve Harrington, and suddenly Steve's not at the track meets anymore. Suddenly he's not on the team and -

"That's absolutely bullshit, Harrington," Eddie snaps. "You're the best on the team! So, what? You hit your head? You don't need your head to throw yourself twenty feet in the air."

Steve is just, "...?"

He knows he got hit in the head pretty hard but like, is this the Twilight Zone? Is this a coma dream because, "What?"

Eddie is muttering to himself about Steve being ridiculous and like, "I’m sorry? My ribs are broken. Kinda need to be able to breathe to do track, Munson. Why don't you try completing the mile in gym class before bitching at me."

"Why are you paying enough attention to me to know i don't run the mile?"

"Why are you paying attention to me?!"
