the best fanfiction you've ever read was written by a woman in her 40s before she made dinner for her kids. it was written by a teenager after school when they should've been studying for a history test. and a barista came up with the idea while they cleaned the espresso machine and busser fact-checked it on their break and the post-doc edited between writing grant proposals and the nurse apologized for typos in the notes after a long shift and behind every drabble and one-shot and multi-chapter fic there is a person with a wonderful and interesting and chaotic life and it is such a privilege that we get to be apart of it because they decided to do this thing we all share, for fun.

Incredibly violent take of mine but I actually don’t think you need to relate to a story in any way to enjoy it. You can enjoy a story even if you can’t point at a character and insert some aspect of your personality or identity into them. In fact I would argue the need for a character like that to be present in every single story you experience is a sign of stunted growth.

It’s been more than one year you updated minus elytra, hope ur doing well tawus

God bless you for sending this. It almost seems prophetic.. Since the latest chapter of Minus Elytra, I've moved to a new country on my own and if I'm honest with you, I've been having personal crises almost every day. Every single day is a battle where you know you can get fired and shipped back home any day. Today is Monday for me (I say this bc of varying timezones), but last weekend I felt so lost, so fucking lost, that I needed something to tether me back to something more solid than work performance metrics. I made a list of the books I need to read, instead of doomscrolling, to try and get back in touch with Tawus who writes and creates, instead of solving some rich people problems for less than 0.1% of their wealth. Even less than that, let's be real.

No joke, I'm basically yn from chapter 1.

To end on a hopeful note, I'm going home this weekend for the first time for a break from everything, if no war restarts, that is. To the place where I wrote Minus Elytra.

I'll get my shit together and that's when Minus Elytra will continue. It will though, I promise.
