“The Dark After Dusk, The Wolf Comes Howlin’” (or TDADTWCH for short) is a fanfic that follows the story of Hogarth Hughes (now 18yo) and his twin brother, Heath as they race against time to find a cure after one of them is bitten by a werewolf. It is a fusion between “The Iron Giant” (1999) and “Ginger Snaps” (2000) with added elements from other popular media and the author’s own imagination. This story is only intended for a mature audience.

Summary: The story of twin brothers in the ordinary town of Rockwell, Maine. While having car trouble one night, one of them is attacked by a wild animal. Now, with the full moon approaching and a paranoid government agent hot on their trail, one brother races against the clock to find a cure while helplessly watching the other turn into a monster.

It's been a long time since I had seen one of your drawings and I'm just becoming addicted to them haha. You are a great inspiration to me and I love your werewolf designs and ideas (I'm obsessed with them, they are my favorite creatures). Well, getting to the point, I don't know if they have asked you before but, what would you recommend for drawing werewolves? Sometimes I try to look for references or sketches, but none of them convince me or really help me much. I hope to receive your answer and I would greatly appreciate it if you respond because I love furries/werewolves but I'm terrible at drawing them. (Sorry if something is not understood since I don't speak English, so all of this was through a translator. I also appreciate your patience for all this haha-).

thank you!!! I like werewolves of all shapes and sizes so i try and be consistent when drawing, but i usually end up wanting to change designs on a whim all the time 😩

i think that, regardless of design, the most important thing to consider when drawing werewolves is the proportions! my headworld design is meant to have a vaguely bear-shaped silhouette. So, compared to a human, they have shorter legs, a longer torso, and generally thicker limbs.

so i think it can be easier to start with a reference of a human and modify it to suit your needs (lasso tool/transform/liquify/etc is great for adjusting proportions if you're working digitally). In my case, I also look at pictures of bears a lot lol.

But of course it's also important to understand how human anatomy works so you can translate it into a non-human shape! I really like the concept art for the order: 1886 because its very good at capturing the supernatural in a way that feels tactile (the sketches below are from Tobias Kwan, who has a bunch more werewolf/creature concepts that i think approach anatomy in a cool way)
