People often talk about drawing with red marker to redirect sh
But I unlocked an awesome option at work today
Ribbon around the wrist. Passively trick your brain to help process the urge/emotions/thoughts. And look/feel pretty/artsy/magical/whatever while doing it
y'all need to relearn the word erratic and stop using schizophrenic/bipolar/psychotic as a replacement
y'all need to relearn the word particular and stop using ocd as a replacement
IT IS TIME TO BITE BACK. IT IS TIME TO CRAWL OUT OF THE GROUND AND CLAW YOUR LIFE BACK INTO YOUR HANDS. DO NOT GIVE UP NOW. YOU'VE ALREADY MADE IT THIS FAR. YOU DO NOT KNOW THE VERSION OF YOURSELF YOU WILL BECOME ONE DAY.
GET UP. GO FORWARD. FAKE IT UNTIL YOU MAKE IT BUT DO NOT REJECT HELP. THE PERSON YOU WILL BECOME ONE DAY IS HIDING INSIDE OF YOU AND YOU HAVE TO FIND THEM.
LIVE. I AM NOT ASKING.
were you a bad kid or were you just a kid
āit couldāve been worseā ok and it also couldāve not happened to you
It always so funny
I have a break down, mental health is broken, and I'm told to "manage it"
And I can't explain
The fact I'm not [REDACTED] is me managing it.
Legit the only thing pushing me right now is cause I feel it's the only reason people will believe me.
btw if all you are doing as a physically disabled person is survive, you're worthy of being here as much as everyone else. even if you can't work, make art, or leave your home. even if you don't see anything beyond your bedroom and phone screen. even if you gain or lose weight, or your appearance otherwise changes because of your disability. even if you aren't awake or aware most of the time. you being here is enough to contribute to the world. i love you
psychosis needs to lose its negative connotation, its a thing that happens. you are far closer to psychotic episodes than you think and we need to all know how to deal with them properly
I always say that psychosis is a natural part of human experience or state of mind. And guess what, non psychotics get MAD when I say that. "No, its not natural or normal at all! Dont normalize it!" Guess what happens when you haven't slept in a few days? Psychosis. Guess what can happen when you're too stressed? Psychosis. Guess what can happen from physical conditions? Psychosis. Psychosis is the same type of normal that any other negative state of mind is. Someone experiencing depression due to circumstances? Normal. Someone dissociating during a stressful event? Normal. Psychosis isn't different. ANYONE can experience psychosis and it doesn't even have to be a disorder. Psychotic disorders are disorders due to the frequency and intensity of psychosis.
People need to stop demonizing normal human experiences
all AAC should be completely free forever. no there shouldn't be "free versions of paid AAC apps" i mean like every single feature and option should be free forever and ever. we should not have to pay to communicate.
autistic people dominate AAC conversation on tumblr so for this AAC awareness month (October), let us also remember all non-autistic AAC users & autistic AAC users who not use AAC because or solely because autism.
people use AAC for from intellectual & developmental disorders to neurocognitive disorders to neurological to physical disorders. people use AAC for disorders from birth & acquired disorders. progressive & non progressive disorders.
some AAC users have mouth speech, motor, and/or sound clarity related difficulties, others use for language and/or cogntive difficulties, some for combo of reasons.

you can't be a disabled ally without also supporting homeless people and addicts like it's just not possible
unhoused and people struggling with substance abuse
but this yeah
no i mean addiction. gambling addiction and self harm addiction included. we don't have to avoid these words like they're a bad thing. the stigma will exist regardless, so if someone says "what, you support addicts?" instead of saying "i support people struggling with substance abuse" you can just say "yes." no caveats, yeah i support addicts. i support homeless people. i support homeless addicts. it's fine
money is such an underrated accessibility option.
like people want to think any disabled person who is after money is morally suspect some way, because they're not asking for "treatments" or "accommodations" like a lot of our issues can be fixed way more easily with money. can't drive? paying for a taxi is often one of the more accessible alternatives. can't cook? you can pay more to have prepared food delivered to you. food restrictions? that food straight up costs more money. can't clean? you can pay for someone to do that. house inaccessible? having (lots) of money can help with that, you get the gist.
having money won't make us abled. it also won't stop our symptoms from being distressing, painful, or debilitating. but there's a huge gap in experience between the average poor disabled person and someone who's actually wealthy. you can buy your way out of some of the difficult situations most disabled people are left to rot in. wanting money, needing money, asking for money is pretty natural when it's such a useful tool. why get so weird about disabled people wanting money like i'm pretty sure everyone wants money anyway
If someone needs to hear this today, including myself, then I hope it helps. Please keep trying your best to make the art and projects you wanna see in the world. I know it's hard with cruel people trying to bury so many diverse voices and ideas, but making and sharing that art matters so much.
having depression makes your friends seem like the coolest most put together people on earth like wow... you got out of bed, had breakfast, went to work, AND spent some time on a hobby when you got home....? that's so impressive you're like superman or something. can i borrow your power.
i made this instagram post !!! there isn't as big of a community of AAC users on instagram so I thought I would share this on my instagram (@cytochromesea).
EDIT: i got an ask that states that not everyone knows what AAC is which is an oversight on my part, it stands for alternative and augmentative communication!
Image ID:
A light blue background with a rainbow and a cloud and some stars. There is a blue border collie with wings holding an aac tablet that says I love you! Text reads: AAC etiquette. Doās, Donāts, and other stuff. By cytochrome sea.
The same background appears in every following slide. Text reads:
AAC is my voice! It is not a toy or accessory
Donāt touch my AAC without my permission
Donāt take my AAC away from me, for any reason (joke, punishment, etc)
Donāt press buttons randomly or flip through my communication cards without permission
How would you like it if I randomly poked you on the mouth and throat (or on your hands if you sign)? It would be unpleasant, so donāt do that to me
Some AAC users can speak sometimes. It is not your business why someone can or cannot talk
Donāt ask questions about why an AAC user cannot speak.Ā
Do let us communicate however is best for us in that moment
Donāt ask us if or when we will be able to speak verbally. Itās not your businessĀ
Do not value verbal speech more highly than AAC. Any communication is good communication
Some of us never talk, either, and thatās ok! Those of us who can talk sometimes are not better than those of us who canāt. None of us owe you an explanation for our use of AAC.
Donāt look at my screen until I show you. It feels really invasive!
It feels like when someone is looking at your phone screen over your shoulder, so please donāt do this
This applies to low tech AAC as well, donāt look at someoneās cards or letter board until they show you
You have the dignity of forming your thoughts in your head before you say them, whereas my thoughts are all on display. Please afford me the same dignity that you get automatically.
Donāt shame someone for not being able to speak verbally. It makes us feel horrible
We are real people with thoughts and feelings. Please treat us with kindness.Ā
We are trying our best
Donāt shame someone if their device mispronounces a word. Itās quite literally out of our control.
Other Donāts. Donāt
Don't Treat an AAC user as childish or stupid for not being able to speak. Our ability to speak does not define our worth
Don't Show frustration at the way someone communicates
Don't Make comments about how fast or slow we communicate
Also donātā¦
don't Act surprised when we swear or talk about adult topics like sex, drugs, or violence. We are not pure uwu precious smol beans, we are normal fucking people
don't Assume what is āwrongā with us. There are about a hundred reasons for someone to use AAC and you probably arenāt the expert in any of them.
āOK, so what CAN i do?ā im glad you asked! When interacting with an AAC user, DOā¦
Ask us how we prefer to communicate and support us as you are able
Assume that we are competent
Talk to us with the same respect, tone and vocabulary that you would for any one else
Give us money (this one is a joke)
Understand that AAC grammar isnāt perfect and we are doing our best
Is it rude ifā¦
I canāt understand your device? Not rude! Misunderstandings happen all the time in any conversation, just be patient as you would normally.Ā
I want to complement your AAC? Not rude!
I ask to see your AAC and understand how it works? This isnāt rude if you are already talking about AAC, but donāt ask random strangers this. They donāt owe you an AAC tour.Ā
Thank you for listening! This post is for the community! If you are an AAC user, let me know if I missed something in the comments and I will pin it! I hope you are filled with peace and love and I hope something good happens to you today! End ID.Ā
