It’s interesting how much blame people will lay and how varying it is. How opposite. The Jedi didn’t give him special treatment because of his power/status. The Jedi didn’t treat him normal like one of their own. Obi-Wan was too critical. Obi-Wan didn’t pay enough attention to him. The Jedi didn’t allow Anakin to have friends/acquaintances outside of the Order. The Jedi allowed him to be friends with Palpatine. Obi-Wan didn’t save Anakin on Mustafar. Obi-Wan didn’t kill Anakin on Mustafar. Literally everywhere one turns, not only does the blame lay at someone else’s feet aside from Anakin Skywalker, but apparently there is no right answer either. Even if you could place any blame on someone else for his choices, either way it’s a two headed snake. It’s never been enough for people.

Star Wars is a lot of things. It’s about a lot of things. Family, hope, compassion, forgiveness, redemption, tragedy, war, peace, the goodness in people. But all in all, it’s about choices.

Star Wars is about choices. People make choices in these stories and they aren’t generally forced into any of them. It’s about agency, the ability to make those choices and owning up to them. And guess what? Anakin made the choices he did without anyone forcing him to do them. He made those choices knowing exactly what he was doing and exactly how wrong it was.

And the point is, that people allow him to make those choices. They can’t make them for him. He has to make those choices. And he doesn’t want to.

Anakin doesn’t want to make choices.

But in the end, of every episode, every movie, every defining moment, he makes a choice anyways. And until the end, none of them come out the way he wants them too.

Because he wants both, he wants it all. He doesn’t want to choose.

when obi-wan hands over his saber and claims that there are other ways to fight and then steps outside and immediately attempts to recruit an ally, it genuinely made me emotional, bc you guys, that’s qui-gon. that’s the the order. that’s the path. iirc in the obi-wan & anakin novel rogue planet, it comes up that qui-gon taught obi-wan it’s best to seek another ally, and here obi-wan is, probably about the same age as qui-gon was then, living his teachings, embodying the best of his lineage, not just in selflessly prioritizing the safety of the many, but also in seeking to build connection instead of destruction. seeking an ally means placing trust in other people and in the force, something obi-wan had short supply of at the beginning of the show, but it’s returning, just like he’s regaining his form with a lightsaber, and all the other martial arts taught by the jedi, he’s also returning to the cultural values he learned from his own master. it makes sense that he will be able to communicate with qui-gon after this, as he’s able to be open and have faith in the force and the goodness and competence of others

seeing comments like this in my notifications, today of all days, just solidifies to me how unhinged this perspective is. the idea that the cooling pile of children is more evil than the man choosing to cut them down? or that seeking allies and sacrificing yourself for others is more evil than being a ruthless sadist who uses a traumatized girl as a mere tool to get what he wants, disposable when no longer of use. i don’t know what media people who make this claim are watching, but if it’s the same star wars that i see?? they need to seriously reevaluate their belief structure bc yikes. the jedi beliefs are beautiful and their endurance despite everything bc of hope and trust and the force is not evil, it’s just not.
